Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Avenged Sevenfold had a small selection of their songs become featured in numerous "Call of Duty" video games. What song was the first of theirs to appear in one of the franchise's games?

Answer: Not Ready to Die

All of these songs made it into some game in the legendary franchise. "Not Ready to Die" was the first, featured as an Easter egg on the Zombies map "Call of the Dead." "Carry On" was played at the end of the campaign in a cutscene of "Black Ops II", "Nightmare" was featured in "Zombies: Moon" and "Shepherd of Fire" was played in the opening cinematic of the Zombies map "Origins".
2. Known endearingly as "The Rev", this talented former drummer of the band tragically lost his life to what was eventually ruled an accidental overdose. The album "Nightmare" was dedicated to him by the band. What is his name?

Answer: Jimmy Sullivan

His death came just three days after taking the lead writing the song "The Fiction". He died at the young age of 28 years old.
3. According to lead vocalist Matt Shadows, what was the inspiration behind the name of the band?

Answer: A reference to a biblical story

Specifically, the name of the band was a reference to the story of Cain and Abel in the bible, found in Genesis 4:24. Despite the religious connotation, the band itself is not religious.
4. The first record label Avenged Sevenfold signed with helped to put them on the map right in the early 2000s. Who was it?

Answer: Good Life Recordings

Good Life Recordings would be the band's label for two years before they left them and signed on with Hopeless Records. They would stick with Hopeless for a couple years before latching on with Warner Bros. Records.
5. The primary logo for Avenged Sevenfold features what appears to be a skull donning bat wings and looking forward ominously. The band has actually given this skull a name. What is its name?

Answer: Deathbat

Deathbat is a common sight within the band, being visible in some capacity on every single album they've ever released. It came into center stage as the band released their album "The Stage" in 2016, as it was used to provide a teaser for the release of said album.
6. The "Prophets of Rage" summer tour had been hyped up pretty well, but it ran into a snag midway and had many of its showings cancelled. Why was this?

Answer: One of the band members suffered from a major health condition

Matt Shadows began to develop blood blisters in his throat, which clearly was a pretty big problem for a vocalist.
7. Members of the band have historically cited many popular bands as major influences for their music. Which of the following is an example?

Answer: Metallica

This makes a good degree of sense, as the bands are of identical genres and have similar music styles. This was officially revealed in a 2019 special where vocalist Matt Shadows had a sit down with Metallica's James Hetfield, at which point he revealed this. It is believed that the band has a number of other inspirations.
8. Avenged Sevenfold has had one of their albums nominated for a Grammy Award. Which album was this?

Answer: The Stage

It was the 60th annual edition of the Grammys where "The Stage" was nominated within the "Best Rock" category.
9. The band's first tour came in 2003 during the "Take Action tour". However, their inspiration for taking part in this was unorthodox and quite sad. According to lead vocalist Matt Shadows, why did the band take part in the tour?

Answer: An ex member attempted suicide

The member in question was bassist Justin Meachem, who attempted suicide via drinking overt amounts of cough syrup. The attempt was unsuccessful, but the aftermath resulted in his health being too poor to continue on with the band. According to Shadows in an interview after a performance during this tour, "he perma-fried his brain and was in a mental institution for a long time, and when you have someone in your band who does that, it ruins everything that's going on all around you, and it makes you want to do something to prevent it from happening to other people."
10. Is the birth name of the band's lead vocalist actually Matt Shadows?

Answer: No

His last name is actually Sanders, Shadows is the moniker he goes by as a band-name of sorts. He is not the only one to do that, as Zacky Vengeance's real last name is Baker.
