 Robert Smith reportedly said that this song made him feel like he was in a wardrobe closet at the edge of a cliff, trying to burst out of it without falling off of it. The director, Tim Pope, took him quite literally.

 "Lovesong" was written as a wedding present to Robert Smith's wife, Mary.

 This is a very interesting and "Gothic" type video, and according the the behind-the-scenes footage I've seen, The Cure had a lot of fun filming it.

Originally, there were supposed to be real cats as well as the stuffed cats, but apparently the real cats were afraid of the stuffed ones. There is one scene where Robert Smith is holding a real kitten, and if you look closely, you can see it scratch him.

 Also in this video is Robert Smith portraying a "fat lady" and Robert Smith and Simon Gallup portraying Siamese twins (perhaps a reference to an earlier Cure song?)
