Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Find the match for the number of sisters of Lazarus. (John 11:1)

Answer: 2

Lazarus had two sisters, Mary and Martha. According to Scripture, Mary was insightful while Martha was industrious. They lived at Bethany, a small community just outside Jerusalem in Biblical times.

John 11 tells of Lazarus dying and being raised from the dead by Jesus four days later.
2. Find the match for the number of chapters in the Gospel of Luke, as per the NKJV and NIV.

Answer: 24

The Gospel of Luke consists of twenty-four chapters. It is the third book in the New Testament and the third of four Gospels. It contains a number of parables and miracles not recorded in the three other Gospels.

The parables found in only Luke are The Prodigal Son, The Good Samaritan, A Friend in Need, The Rich Fool, The Faithful Servant and the Evil Servant, The Faithful and Wise Steward, The Barren Fig Tree, The Great Supper, Building a Tower and King Making War, The Lost Coin, The Unjust Steward, The Rich Man and Lazarus, Unprofitable Servants, The Persistent Widow, The Pharisee and the Tax Collector and finally The Minas (Pounds).

Miracles reported in only Luke include the Healing of the Ten Lepers, Escape From the Hostile Multitude, Draught of Fish, Raising the Widow's Son from the Dead at Nain, Healing the Infirm Bowed Woman, Healing the Man with Dropsy and Restoring a Servant's Ear.
3. Find the match for the number of times the community of Nain is mentioned in the Old and New Testaments.

Answer: 1

The community of Nain is mentioned only once in the entire Christian Bible. Luke 7:11-17 tells of Jesus raising a widow's son from the dead in the community. Both the widow and the son are not named.

According to the Thompson Chain-Reference Study Bible, Nain is about ten miles south of Nazareth.
4. Find the match for the number of virgins who waited for the bridegroom in Matthew 25: 1-13.

Answer: 10

Ten is the correct answer. Scripture states that five virgins were wise and took extra oil for their lamps while waiting for the bridegroom. The other five were foolish because they did not take extra oil, and their lamps burned out.

The ten virgins are mentioned in a parable told by Jesus. It is known as the Parable of the Wise and Foolish Virgins and appears in only the Gospel of Matthew.
5. Find the match for the number of angels John saw playing trumpets, as per Revelation 8:2.

Answer: 7

Seven angels were given seven trumpets, as per Revelation 8:2. After each angel blew on a trumpet, the earth was struck with horrific calamities, according to Scripture.

After the first trumpet, the earth's vegetation was struck while the seas were struck after the second trumpet and the waters struck after the third trumpet. After the fourth trumpet, the heavens were struck and after the fifth trumpet locusts were unleashed from the Bottomless Pit. After the sixth trumpet, Angels from the Euphrates struck and a third of mankind was killed. Scripture goes on to state that after the seventh trumpet, John had a vision of a mighty Angel with the Little Book.
6. Find the match for the number of times Paul pleaded with the Lord to remove "a thorn in the flesh", as per 2 Corinthians 12:8.

Answer: 3

According to 2 Corinthians 12:8, Paul "pleaded" with the Lord three times that a "thorn in the flesh" would depart from him. However, in Verse 9, Paul states he was not alleviated of the affliction, quoting the Lord as saying, "My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness." Paul goes on to write: "Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me."

Paul doesn't provide any details about his "thorn in flesh" and considerable speculation has taken place over the centuries. Many theologians believe the thorn in his flesh is in reference to a physical ailment, such as poor vision, headaches or epilepsy. Others believe the thorn in the flesh is in reference to a recurring temptation, while others believe it is in reference to the severe persecution Paul suffered. No one knows for certain. The bottom line is that Paul learned to live with his condition.
7. Find the match for the number of people on Paul's ship which sank off the coast of Malta. (Acts 27:37)

Answer: 276

According to Acts 27:37, there were two hundred and seventy-six people on Paul's ship which sank off the coast of Malta. However, not a single person perished in the shipwreck, just as Paul predicted.

Once everyone had made it safely to shore, Paul seized the occasion to convert a number of the Maltese to Christianity.

For details, refer to Acts 27:1-44 and 28:1-10.
8. Find the match for the number of the chapter in Romans in which Paul extends greetings to a large number of male and female believers in the early church at Rome.

Answer: 16

Romans 16 is the correct answer. In the chapter, Paul extends personal greetings to a large number of male and female believers in the early church. All of them are in Rome. I personally find it fascinating so many "Joe" and "Jane" Christians of the day have their names enshrined in the book that has sold more copies than any other book in history.

Names in Romans 16 include the likes of Asyncritus, Epaenetus, Philologus, Tryphena and Tryphosa. Obviously, their names appear no where else in Scripture.
9. Find the match for the TOTAL number of men who were on Mount Transfiguration with Jesus.

Answer: 5

According to Scripture, there were a total of five men on Mount Transfiguration, in addition to Jesus. Their names are Moses, Elijah, Peter, John and James.

Details about the transfiguration can be found in Matthew 17:1-13, Mark 9:2-13 and Luke 9:28-36 as well as 1 Peter 1:17-18.
10. Find the match for the number of legions of angels Jesus said, if He wanted to, He could call upon to help Him after His arrest in the Garden of Gethsemane. (Matthew 26:53)

Answer: 12

In Matthew 26:53, Jesus stated He could call on "more than twelve legions of angels" to prevent His arrest. According to Scripture, Jesus made the statement after Judas Iscariot kissed Him, signaling to a large armed group of men the One they should arrest. As they prepared to arrest Jesus, Scripture states Peter took his sword and cut off the ear of Malchus, a member of the party making the arrest. It was at this point that Jesus told Peter to put away his sword, and then made the statement about the twelve legions of angels He could call on for protection.

According to notes in the NKJV Study Bible, a legion in the Roman army was about 6,000 thousand men. In other words, Jesus was saying He could call upon more than 72,000 angels for protection. It boggles the mind how much power was at Christ's command. 2 Kings 19:35, for example, tells of one angel of the LORD killing 185,000 people in the Assyrian camp in one night. Yet Christ did not call for help, nor did He resist arrest.

Scripture goes on to tell of Him being humiliated, tortured, ruthlessly beaten and crucified, only to rise victorious from the grave three days later.
