Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. According to 1 Chronicles 2:15, what relation was Ozem to David?

Answer: Brother

Ozem was a brother of David, according to Scripture. 1 Chronicles 2:13-16 states, that in addition to David, Jesse was the father of six other sons and two daughters. The sons were Eliab, Abinadab, Shimea, Nethanel, Raddai and Ozem. The daughters were Zeruiah and Abigail.

There is no mention in Scripture about who the mother, or mothers, of the nine children were.
2. According to Genesis 25:29-34, what son of Isaac sold his birthright to Jacob for a pot stew?

Answer: Esau

Esau, according to Scripture, sold his birthright to his slightly younger twin brother Jacob for a pot of stew. Details can be found in Genesis 25:29-34.

Later, Jacob would deceive his elderly father Isaac and obtain the blessing intended for Esau.
3. According to Hosea 1:3, who was the mother of Gomer, a prostitute who was married to Hosea?

Answer: Diblaim

Diblaim is the correct answer, but little is known about her as she is mentioned in passing reference. According to Hosea 1:2-3, Diblaim's daughter Gomer was a harlot.

It appears Diblaim was a prostitute as well. Scripture tells of God commanding Hosea to take "a wife of harlotry and children of harlotry for the land has committed great harlotry." Backing up the belief Diblaim was a prostitute is the fact no mention is made of the name of Gomer's father.
4. The following verse is from the NKJV: "The woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet, and adorned with gold and precious stones and pearls, having in her hand, a golden cup full of abominations and the filthiness of her fornification." In what book do you find this verse?

Answer: Revelation

The verse in question is from Revelation 17:4. Verse 5 goes on to state the woman had written on her forehead in capital letters: "MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND OF ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH."

Revelation, the final book of the New Testament, is largely about the fate of two cities -- Babylon and the New Jerusalem. Babylon faces a horrific future while inhabitants of the New Jerusalem will be living in paradise.
5. What king of Israel was murdered and had his head cut off while he slept on his bed? (2 Samuel 4)

Answer: Ishbosheth

Before David became king of a united Israel, Ishbosheth served as king of the northern ten tribes while David reigned as king of Judah. (In the NIV, Ishbosheth's name appears as Ish-Bosheth.) Scripture states a bloody civil war erupted between the two sides to determine who would be king of the entire country. The war came to an end shortly after two brothers, Rechab and Baanah, stabbed Ishbosheth in the stomach while he slept in his bed. Scripture goes on to tell of the two men beheading Ishbosheth and presenting his head to David. The king was disgusted with the actions of Rechab and Baanah and ordered his men to execute them.

See 2 Samuel 4 for details.
6. Out of the four names below, which one, according to 1 Samuel 16, was a talented harpist?

Answer: David

While a teenager, David would be called upon to play the harp for King Saul, as per 1 Samuel 16. Scripture states David played the harp whenever Paul was beset by a distressing spirit. 1 Samuel 16:23 states whenever David played the harp the distressing spirit would leave Saul and he would be well.

Later, David would be called upon to slay Goliath, resulting in a chain of events which resulted in him becoming king, indirectly replacing Saul.
7. According to Scripture, what was the name of the king of Eglon who was killed by Joshua? (Joshua 10:3)

Answer: Debir

Debir, the king of Eglon, was killed by Joshua when the Israelites moved into Canaan, known in Scripture as the Promised Land. Joshua 10 tells of the Israelites soundly defeating the armies of Debir and four other kings with the five kings taking refuge in a cave.

When Joshua learned the kings had taken refuge in a cave, he ordered large stones to be placed at the mouth, trapping the kings inside. Later, Joshua killed the five kings and hanged their bodies on trees, as per Joshua 10:26.
8. According to 1 Kings 16:8-10, what king of Israel was assassinated during the second year of his reign?

Answer: Elah

Elah, the son of Baasha, is the correct answer as per 1 Kings 16:8-10. According to Scripture, Elah as assassinated by Zimri, commander of half of his chariots. Scripture states Elah was in Tirzah "drinking himself drunk in the house of Arza" when he was struck by Zimri and died. Elah had reigned two years.

Scripture goes on to tell of Zimri going on a ruthless killing spree, killing all in Bassha's family as well as Baasha's friends.
9. What was the name of the Syrian army commander who was cleansed of his leprosy by Elisha? (2 Kings 5)

Answer: Naaman

The story of Naaman is found in the fifth chapter of Second Kings. After coming down with leprosy, Naaman followed the advice of a Jewish slave girl who served his wife. In 2 Kings 5:23, she told him to see the prophet Elisha. The end result is this: Elisha the prophet told him to bathe seven times in the Jordan River. Miraculously, after the seventh bath, he was cleansed of the dread disease.
10. Now take the first letter of each answer above to come up with a nine-letter word that describes the condition of Aeneas for eight years of his life, as per Acts 9:33-35.

Aeneas was bedridden for eight years, according to Acts 9:33. Verses 34 and 35 tell of Peter miraculously healing Aeneas. Scripture states Peter proclaimed, "Aeneas, Jesus the Christ heals you. Arise and make your bed," and immediately he was made well. The passage also states that all the people who lived in the immediate area "turned to the Lord".
