In order of finishing place on the ladder, the 9 teams were: South Sydney, Eastern Suburbs, Glebe, North Sydney, Newcastle, Balmain, Newtown, Western Suburbs and Cumberland. Souths beat Easts 14-12 in the final to become the first premiers.

Answer: Souths kicked off to an empty half of the field and scored a try

So officially it was a forfeit, but technically, Souths won 3-0.

Newtown finished the regular season as minor premiers with 11 wins, 2 losses and a draw. They drew with Souths in the final 4-4, which was enough to give them the premiership on a countback.
