Answer: Lajoie

Nap Lajoie hit over .300, 16 of his 21 seasons in baseball. He set an almost unreachable record of batting .426 in 1901 for the Philadelphia Athletics. 5 times he led the league in batting, and won the Triple Crown in 1901. This Hall of Famer retired in 1916, and died in Daytona Beach, Florida in 1959.
2. Which of the following players hit only 14 home runs in his career?

Answer: Bob Uecker

Uecker the former catcher, then TV analyst and commentator, played catcher in the big leagues for only 6 seasons. His most famous stint was with the Cardinals for 2 seasons when he turned his playing ability into sarcasm. He hit 7 home runs in the 1966 season with the Phillies. Being in the 'front row', as one of his commercials state, Uecker never led the league in anything, never went to the postseason, and never won a Gold Glove. Stan hit 475, and Schmidt smacked 548. Dodger catcher John Roseboro who hit 104, and died in August 2002.

Answer: Eric Hinske

The others listed were Rookie of the Year winners, but all in the National League, and at least 10 years earlier. Hinske with the Blue Jays batted .279, with a 158 RBI's and 24 home runs. He edged out Rodrigo Lopez of the Orioles for the title.

Answer: Dummy Taylor

This deaf player, Luther "Dummy" Taylor, pitched his entire 9 year career with the New York Giants, except for 4 games with Cleveland in mid-season 1902. His best season was in 1904 when he went 21-15, throwing 29 complete games. The Giants won the 1905 World Series against the Philadelphia Athletics, but Taylor did not make an appearance.

The others listed were indeed Dummy's, but never played for the Giants.
5. Which of the following National League teams, started off the 2003 season with a 10-0 record?

Answer: Nobody did

No team did, but the Giants came close. They were 9-1 after the first 10 games of the season. They were the only NL team to come close.

Answer: Bobo Holloman

Alva Lee 'Bobo' Holloman's only season was in 1953. After his rookie season, nobody was interested in him. None of the others listed ever pitched in their career, and played many seasons in the Majors.
7. Which of the following became manager of the San Francisco Giants in 2003?

Answer: Felipe Alou

Alou, a former San Franciscan Giant in his younger days, managed the Montreal Expos after retiring as a player, from 1992-2001. After the 2002 departure of manager Dusty Baker, Alou was hired to keep the Giants in order, in accordance with their 2002 World Series season.

Answer: 0

Bonds was not a Rookie of the Year in his rookie season in 1986. He did win the MVP in 1990, 1992 and 1993, then again in 2001 and 2002. In his rookie season in 1986, Bonds hit 16 home runs and batted .223, along with his 102 strikeouts. He was not even in the top 10 voting for the Rookie of the Year Award.

A player may only receive the Rookie of the Year Award in his rookie season, as they have only the one opportunity.
9. What team won the 1902 World Series?

Answer: No team

None of these teams existed in 1902. There was no World Series in 1902. After the last Championship Series in 1892 between the Boston Beaneaters and the Cleveland Spiders, it would be another 11 years before any type of championships series would be held. In 1903, the first World Series appeared with the Boston Pilgrims defeating the Pittsburgh Pirates, 5 games to 3.
10. Which of the following 'Mickey's' won 3 games in the 1968 World Series?

Answer: Mickey Lolich

No other Mickey listed pitched in a game in their career. Lolich was overshadowed the entire season with the Tigers, due to Denny McLain going 31-6 during the season. Lolich's numbers were solid throughout the season. Lolich won game 2, 5, and game 7, against Bob Gibson and the St.Louis Cardinals. Detroit won the Series 4 games to 3. Lolich won the MVP for the Series.
