Answer: Bill Terry

Terry hit .401 in 1930 with the NY Giants. He had 23 home runs with 129 RBIs. It was the only time in his career that he hit .400 and retired with a career average of .341 after 14 seasons. The other players listed weren't born when Terry achieved this milestone.
2. In which decade was the 'House That Ruth' built, Yankee stadium born?

Answer: 1920s

It was called Yankee Stadium I in 1923 after the New York club had played in the Polo Grounds IV since their inception. They won the World Series that year with Miller Huggins at the helm. The Yankees drew a record 1,007,006 fans.
3. Which of the following players never received a season MVP award?

Answer: Al Kaline

Kaline played his entire career with the Tigers for 22 seasons with outstanding stats each year. Unfortunately this Hall of Famer never won the award. He was runner-up in 1955 and 1963 for the award. He retired with 399 home runs in 1974 with his 10 Gold Gloves in hand.
4. In what year did the Florida Marlins appear in their first World Series?

Answer: 1997

The Marlins joined the ranks of the Major Leagues in 1993. It took four years to make it to the big time in 1997 against the Cleveland Indians under the guidance of manager Jim Leyland. The Marlins beat the Indians 4 games to 3. The following season the bottom fell out as they were 54-108.
5. What player was born Larry Wayne Jones?

Answer: Chipper Jones

The Florida home grown was born in April of 1972. He began his career with the Braves in 1993 where he had only 3 at-bats the entire season and compiled a single, a double, and struck out one time. After a minor league stint in 1994, he came back up to the Braves in 1995 with 524 at-bats and a stellar year.
6. Mel Ott played Major League baseball for 22 seasons with how many teams?

Answer: 1

Ott played his entire career with the New York Giants from 1926 to 1947. He compiled some tremendous numbers for the Giants and the National League including his 511 home runs. His greatest year of many fine seasons was in 1929 but the Giants could only make it to a 3rd place finish.
7. Other than Rube Foster, who was the only manager inducted into the Hall of Fame during the 1980s?

Answer: Walter Alston

The Dodger great nicknamed 'Smokey' was true Dodger-blue. He took the helm of the Dodgers in Brooklyn in 1954 and carried the team into Los Angeles through 1976 when he retired due to illness. His record was 2,040 wins against only 1,613 losses. He led the Dodgers to 4 World Series and 3 National League pennants.
8. Which of the following teams appeared in the World Series 5 times during the 1990s?

Answer: Atlanta Braves

The Braves may as well have pitched a tent at the World Series in the 90s. They were there in 1991 and 1992 but lost both times to the Twins and Blue Jays. In 1995 they beat the Indians and then lost the following year to the Yankees. Their last trip in the decade was in 1999 where they lost to the Yankees again, this time a blowout, 4 games to 0.
9. Which pitcher threw 383 strikeouts in a season, during the 20th century?

Answer: Nolan Ryan

Ryan broke Koufax's record by one strikeout in 1973 with the Angels. He was 23-16 that season but it was only good enough for a 4th place Angel finish. Surprisingly enough, Ryan never won a Cy Young award, and was runner-up to the Cy winner Jim Palmer of the Orioles in 1973.

This Hall of Fame star struck out more than 300 batters six times in a season during his great career and finished with an astonishing 5,714 K's.
10. Which of the following was NOT a Braves franchise name?

Answer: Red Hawks

The Braves have had numerous names throughout their history in the Majors. It all started with the Red Caps (1876-1882). Then they were the Beaneaters (1883-1906) before becoming the Doves for two years, and then the Rustlers for another two years. The franchise was called the Bees from 1936 to 1940.

They had had the name of the Braves intermixed with all of their other names, but once again the Braves' name stuck in 1941 and finished out the century.
