Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Down 3-1 in the 2016 NBA Finals against the Golden State Warriors, things were looking quite bleak for the Cavs. However, they were given a spurt of momentum when a crucial player on Golden State was suspended for Game Five. Who was this?

Answer: Draymond Green

Draymond Green was given a flagrant foul in the team's Game Four victory for "unnecessary contact with a retaliatory swipe of his hand to the groin" which ultimately led to his Game Five suspension. The Cavs would win Game Five and use the momentum to take the next two games, en route to the team's first ever championship.
2. Which beloved Cavaliers fan favorite saw his jersey get retired in the middle of the 2014 season?

Answer: Zydrunas Ilgauskas

Ilgauskas ultimately had his #11 retired, hung in the Quicken Loans Arena rafters, never to again be used by anyone else. Born in Lithuania, he was chosen by the Cavs 20th overall in the 1996 draft. He played for the Cavs from 1996 to 2010.
3. Former great Shaquille O'Neal once played for the Cavaliers. What season did he don the Wine and Gold?

Answer: 2009-10

Towards the end of his career, O'Neal joined the Cavs, led by LeBron James, and filled somewhat of an enforcer role. Sadly, the team was ousted in the Conference Semifinals that season, and he left the team (he went to the Celtics)along with LeBron James (went to Miami) later that offseason.
4. In Game 5 of the 2007 Conference Finals, a pivotal game, LeBron James went absolutely bananas on the league's sixth ranked defense (Eastern Conference one seed), scoring, at one point, 25 consecutive points bringing their defenders to their knees; and forcing overtime. Which team was his victim?

Answer: Detroit Pistons

No matter what Detroit tried to do, LeBron James obliterated their defenders and pretty much carried the Cavs to an overtime 109-107 victory in Detroit, to gain a 3-2 series lead. The Cavs won Game 6 in Cleveland and the series 4-2.
5. In 2010, the Cavaliers nearly shook the NBA world up by nearly acquiring star bigman Amare Stoudemire from the Phoenix Suns. The trade was hung up, regretably, as the Cavs were unwilling to part with one player which blew any hope of a trade up. Who was this player?

Answer: JJ Hickson

Hickson was viewed as the team's contingency plan, should LeBron James leave the team. Leave the team he did, but Hickson did not pan out and failed to meet his potential by a long shot. Had the Cavs acquired Stoudemire, it's very possible things would have been very different.
6. In the 2015 playoffs, head coach David Blatt nearly made a crucial error in Game Three of the Eastern Conference semifinals that would likely have cost the Cavs the series against Chicago Bulls. What did he almost do?

Answer: Call a timeout the team didn't have

With the game tied 84-84 and nine seconds left, the Cavs were set to take possession to try for a game-winner. Blatt motioned to call timeout to discuss what the team should do, but he didn't realize he was out of timeouts. Fortunately, assistant Tyronn Lue did realize this before the officials did, pulling Blatt back to the sidelines and telling him as much. Had the officials noticed, the Cavs would have been given a technical and the Bulls would've been given free throws. LeBron James went on to make the game-winning shot to even the series at 2-2.

The Cavs went on to win the series 4-2.
7. Arguably the Cavs' worst draft pick ever, in 2013 this player became the first Canadian to ever get drafted first overall in the NBA Draft. Who was this?

Answer: Anthony Bennett

Bennett, the forward out of UNLV, was an utterly terrible draft pick in a draft featuring the likes of Giannis Antentokounmpo, Victor Oladipo and Rudy Gobert as options. He played for the Cavs for one season before joining the Timberwolves for one season, the Raptors for one season, the Nets for one season, and he was then out of the league at the end of the 2016-17 season.
8. The Cavaliers formed their own "Big Three" when LeBron James, who left the Cavs in 2010, entered his second stint for the team in 2014. Kyrie Irving, fresh off of signing a contract extension, would be LeBron James' "Robin" but who was the third member of this Big Three?

Answer: Kevin Love

Kevin Love was somewhat of an awkward third option, but he was overall a competent shooter and generally quite decent offensive player. He was a big contributor to the team's NBA title in 2016, finally playing both excellent defense and offense in the heart-stopping Game Seven 93-89 victory vs. Golden State Warriors in Oakland.
9. Placed in an awkward position, this fan favorite actually joined the Golden State Warriors in February 2016 following a series of acquisitions where he left the Cavaliers. He faced off against his old squad in the Finals that year, and ironically came up short here. Who was this?

Answer: Anderson Varejao

"Andy V" played for many terrible Cavs teams since his rookie year in 2004. When the team finally took home the gold in 2016, he was their opponent. The sports world can be cruel sometimes for sure.
10. Kyrie Irving was the team's star player during the first post-LeBron era (2010-2014). In four years of LeBron-less Cavs basketball, with Irving running the show, what is the most games the Cavs won in a single season?

Answer: 33

The Cavaliers went 33-49 in 2013, missing the playoffs, before LeBron returned to the team the following year. After leaving LeBron James and the Cavaliers, Kyrie Irving went and flopped with the Celtics briefly, before leaving them and flopping with the Nets.
