Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who was the first pitcher in the 2003 season, to strikeout 200 batters?

Answer: Kerry Wood

Wood had the groove in 2003 with the Cubs. He led the Majors with 200, having 40 more than Yankee Roger Clemens.
2. Who managed the New York Mets, in their first season in 1962?

Answer: Casey Stengel

The others listed had all been laid to rest by 1962. With the record that the Mets had in their first season, many wondered about Casey also. The Mets compiled a dismal 40-120 record, for a last place finish in the National League. The teams first winning season came in 1969, the same year that they won their first World Series against the Orioles.
3. What pitcher, led the 2002 Tampa Bay Devil Rays in wins?

Answer: Joe Kennedy

The others listed did not play with Tampa Bay in 2002, and were all Texas Rangers. Kennedy 'led' the team with only 8 wins against 11 losses. The Devil Rays had a season record of 55-106. Kennedy was in his 2nd season in the Major Leagues.
4. My nickname was 'Tornado', probably due to my wind up. I was the National League Rookie of the Year in 1995. I was 4th in the Cy Young voting in 1995 and 1996. I played for the Dodgers, Mets, Brewers, Tigers, Red Sox, and who knows who else. I was born in Osaka, Japan. Who am I?

Answer: Hideo Nomo

The others listed were not pitchers. Nomo, with his tornado-style wind up, blew away National League batters in his rookie year as a Dodger. 5. Who led the Major Leagues in 1964, by hitting 49 home runs in the season?

Answer: Harmon Killebrew

Answer: Orioles

Palmer had a remarkable career with Baltimore. He took 3 Cy Young Awards and 2 runner-ups in his career. He played from 1965-1984. Palmer went to 6 World Series, and left with a personal record of 4 wins against 2 losses.
10. My nickname was 'Hondo'. I was 6'7", 255 lbs. I terrorized both leagues by mammoth home runs. I was the 1960 National League Rookie of the Year. I played mostly with the Dodgers and Senators. I retired with 382 home runs after only 16 seasons. Who am I?
