1. In what year did the New York Mets win their first World Series?

Answer: 1969

1969 was the only year listed that they won the Series. The team did not exist in 1960. Their only other 20th century WS title was in 1986. The 1969 "Amazing Mets" upset the heavily favored Baltimore Orioles 4 games to 1. With his 3 home runs in the Series, New York's Donn Clendenon was the MVP.
2. What team did Mike Piazza begin his major league career with?

Answer: Los Angeles Dodgers

Piazza won the 1993 National League Rookie of the Year Award for the Dodgers. In the midseason of 1998, the Dodgers dealt Mike to the Marlins, and after only 5 games in Florida, they dealt him off to the Mets.
3. What old-time pitcher, had the nickname of "Three Fingers"?

Answer: Mordecai Brown

The others were not pitchers. Brown was nicknamed 'Three Fingers', not because he had only 3 fingers. He pitched primarily with the Cubs in his career between 1903-1916. He went to 4 World Series with the Cubs, and led the league in 1907 with a record of 27-1.
4. Which of the following American League teams, did not win 100 games in the 2002 season?

Answer: Rangers

The Texas Rangers went 72-90, for a last place finish in the American League Western Division. They finished 31 games behind division leader Oakland, who in addition to the Yankees, won 103 games in 2002.
5. Who won the 1957 World Series?

Answer: Milwaukee Braves

The other teams did not exist in 1957. The Braves, led by Eddie Mathews and Hank Aaron, defeated the Yankees 4 games to 3, including a game 7, 5-0 shutout. The Braves' Lew Burdette won 3 games in the Series, winning him the MVP Award.
6. Which of the following managers with over 1500 career wins, never made it to a World Series appearance?

Answer: Gene Mauch

The other managers listed, won at least 3 World Series in their career. Mauch had 1902 career wins (which for some time ranked him 10th all-time), but never saw the big one. He managed 4 teams over 26 years.
7. Which of the following greats, won the first American League MVP Award in 1911?

Answer: Ty Cobb

Although all these greats won the award, Cobb won it in 1911, at least 20 years earlier. Cobb of the Tigers batted .420 along with 248 hits in the season. This was his first of 3 .400 seasons. Frank Schulte of the Cubs won the first National League MVP, for batting .300 in 1911.
8. The American League was introduced into Major League baseball in what year?

Answer: 1901

The inaugural American League season saw 8 teams in the mix. They were the Chicago White Sox, Boston Red Sox, Detroit Tigers, Philadelphia Athletics, Baltimore Orioles, Washington Senators, Cleveland Blues, and the Milwaukee Brewers. The White Sox won the first American League title, 4 games ahead of the Red Sox. The Brewers finished in last place, 35.5 games back.
9. Yankee great Phil Rizzuto, played his entire career with what team?

Answer: New York

13 seasons in the pinstripes saw this shortstop in the All-Star games 5 times, and win the MVP Award in 1950. In 9 World Series with the Yankees, he contributed to their 7 wins.
10. Barry Bonds set a single season home run record in 2001, by hitting 73 home runs. Whose record did he break?

Answer: Mark McGwire

Bonds smacked 73 'giant' ones in 2001 with San Francisco, to surpass McGwire's total of 70 in 1998 with the Cardinals. Maris had hit 61 in a season with the Yankees, as did the Babe who popped for 60.
