Villeneuve and Zonta both crashed in identical circumstances in the Eau Rouge corner. The mechanics had to rebuild the cars for the race.

Michael lost radio contact with his mechanics and was trying to signal to them with his hands every time he passed the pits. He eventually pitted for a new steering wheel which solved the problem.
