He was born May 25, 1932 in Taylor, Texas. His father named him after his grandfather. He and his family moved to California. He graduated from Commerce High School in San Francisco. He graduated from the University of San Francisco. In 1955 and 1956 he helped his college win NCAA championships. His number four jersey was retired by the University of San Francisco.

Answer: Bill Russell

Russell and Jones, with the help of forward Mike Farmer, led the University of San Francisco to NCAA basketball championships in 1955 and 1956. Each of these three is considered among the greatest defensive players in NCAA history. Jones and Russell also played together on the gold medal winning US Olympic basketball team in 1956. Jones and Russell played together on the Boston Celtics from 1957 through 1967.

Some of their team mates were: Sam Jones, Arnie Risen, Tom "Satch" Sanders, Frank Ramsey, Mel Counts, Jim Loscutoff, and John Thompson.
