Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who was the team's head coach at the time of going 0-16 in 2017?

Answer: Hue Jackson

Hue Jackson has undoubtedly gone down as the worst coach in Browns history, as well as NFL history, and that's saying a lot. In two full seasons, he had a putrid 1-31 record as the team's coach (his win-loss record in 2016 was 1-15).
2. Following their 0-16 season in 2017, did the Browns opt to immediately fire their head coach?

Answer: No

Hue Jackson was astonishingly kept for a third season following a winless drought. This decision went about as well as any reasonable person would expect. He actually did manage to miraculously win a whopping two games in eight tries, going 2-5-1 before his dismissal. Offensive Coordinator Todd Haley and himself were fired after an in-house feud following a loss to the Steelers that ruined their working relationships. He was fired after 8 games in the 2018 season, for an overall record coaching the Browns of 3-36-1 which, according to the Elias Sports Bureau, was the worst head-coaching record for one team in NFL history (minimum 40 games).
3. He was the team's all-time record holder for field goals made when he left the Browns. This kicker played with the Browns for thirteen years starting in 1999 then briefly toured the NFC West in playing with the Cardinals and 49ers before his retirement. He was second behind all-time scoring leader Lou Groza (1946-1967). Who am I talking about?

Answer: Phil Dawson

Phil Dawson is quite easily the second best kicker in Browns history, and the numbers back that claim up completely. He was second in all-time points scored to Lou Groza, while being successful on more Field Goals (305-363) than Groza (264-481) and every other Browns kicker ever. Dawson signed a one-day contract with the Browns in 2019 and retired as a member of the organization.
4. Who do the Browns play in their yearly "Battle of Ohio"?

Answer: Cincinnati Bengals

The Browns and Bengals first played each other in 1970. The Bengals held the edge in this battle during the 2010s (13-7). The two teams met for the 90th time in the first half of the 2018 season. The Browns won, but the Bengals had the all-time advantage in the Battle of Ohio 50-40.
5. In the realm of coaching woes, this former Browns coach joined the New England Patriots after being fired and proceeded to win six Super Bowl titles, immortalizing himself as the greatest head coach of all time. Good thing the Browns fired him! Who am I talking about?

Answer: Bill Belichick

Bill Belichick was fired after the Browns finished the 1995 season with a 5-11 record. He was coach from 1991 to 1995 and left with a 36-44 record. He took a couple of seasons, but combined with his quarterback in Tom Brady, the tandem proceeded to create one of the greatest dynasties in all of sports history.

The six Super Bowl titles: 2001, 2003, 2004, 2014, 2016 and 2018. Of course, several former-Browns pop up in the Super Bowl every year, why not rub a little more salt in the wound with a fact like this?
6. In the middle of an early season 2014 game with the rival Pittsburgh Steelers, star receiver Antonio Brown, in the middle of returning a punt, jumped and accidentally (it seemed) karate-kicked a Browns punter straight in the face while attempting to avoid a tackle. Who was this unfortunate Browns punter?

Answer: Spencer Lanning

The other three options were either not punters or did not play for the team at the time, making Lanning the correct answer.
7. The Browns did not make the playoffs at all during the 2000s and 2010s.

Answer: False

The team did make the playoffs in 2002. They did not actually win a game in the postseason that year, and that was been their only playoff appearance in the 2000s and 2010s, so it is true that they did not win a postseason game over that time.
8. The team underwent major stadium renovations in 2014 and the Browns homefield gained a new name in the process. What was this?

Answer: First Energy Stadium

Gillette Stadium is where the Patriots play, while the Steelers call Heinz Field home and the rival Bengals reside at the Paul Brown Stadium.
9. Like any sports team, the Browns at least try to have some degree of pride. You can find a physical embodiment of this in the bleacher section behind the east end zone at the team's home stadium. What is this section of the stands called?

Answer: Dawg Pound

The famous Dawg Pound in Cleveland is not just the heart and soul of the Browns, it is the heart and soul of the city. Additionally, whenever one thinks of miserably sad fans watching their team get destroyed for an eleventh game in a row, they probably think of the loud, unwavering diehard fanatics of the Dawg Pound.
10. The Browns aren't strangers to ending up on the wrong side of history. Who was their opponent during the infamous Bottlegate incident of 2001?

Answer: Jacksonville Jaguars

One of the more controversial calls in team history, this incident called attention to the notion that a referee cannot review a play if the ensuing one gets completed. Here, receiver Quincy Morgan made a catch on 4th down and 1 to keep the team's game-winning drive in the closing moments alive. Right after quarterback Tim Couch spiked it, the Morgan reception was then reviewed, in direct violation of the aforementioned stipulation.

After reviewing it, the call was overturned and the Jaguars were awarded the ball and the win. This caused fans in the Dawg Pound to start throwing plastic beer bottles, along with all sorts of other food, drink and various objects, onto the field in protest. This ultimately resulted in the immediate banning of plastic beer bottles from future Browns games.
