Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. At the beginning of the episode, there is a flashback where the pilots are discussing how Scar managed to kill Reilly. Starbuck tells us her theory on how it happened: "Scar spooked him. He saw that motherfrakker's ___ ___ coming straight for him and he panicked." What goes in the blank?

Answer: Red eye

This is our first introduction into how Scar fights, even if we're not entirely sure what Scar is by this point. The pilots know they can't just turn and run because Scar has better fighting techniques than the average Raider. It also begins the storyline of the pilots trying to remember the name of Reilly's girlfriend, in a larger effort to remember those who had died since the attacks.
2. The nuggets, having never heard of Scar before, want to know what makes him different, so Starbuck explains Scar's fighting style. According to her, when is the only time Scar likes to fight?

Answer: When the odds are on his side

This explanation of Scar's fighting style shows that something has changed. Normally, Raiders are simple fighters that will go toe-to-toe with the fleet, but since Starbuck found that Raiders are biological, we have to wonder if resurrection technology is used for them as well. Following the destruction of the Resurrection Ship, Scar is beginning to use survival techniques unseen prior to this point.
3. Starbuck and Kat find a Raider in the asteroid field and Kat takes point, but Starbuck senses something is wrong. How does Starbuck know the Raider they are chasing is not Scar?

Answer: It did not turn around and fire, or jump away

After only a few seconds of chasing the other Raider, Starbuck is unconvinced that Kat found Scar because it is just running away. She flips around to check their tails, and sure enough Scar is there, clipping Starbuck's Viper as he makes a pass.
4. In a meeting on Galactica, President Roslin finally reveals the reason the ship is in the asteroid field: a mining operation is taking place, and they have hit "a rich vein of ore." Why is the ore so valuable?

Answer: For the creation of Vipers

According to President Roslin, the mining ship broke another drill bit, so the Galactica would be forced to stay in the asteroid field for another eight days. However, it was worth it because the ore they had happened upon would be able to create two full squadrons of Vipers.

This is coupled with the news that Pegasus has a Viper creation facility and ships are being built to replace the losses taken throughout the series.
5. In order to help pilots to deal with the extreme situation, everyone trains on a chair designed to induce vertigo, and then are given a pistol and target to shoot at. Starbuck holds the record of four shots on target in the allotted time, but someone beats that with five. Who is it?

Answer: Kat

Slowly, Kat has been climbing the ranks of the Galactica pilots, and here she is finally able to trump Starbuck by putting five shots into the Cylon target. This follows a briefing where Starbuck incorrectly states that Vipers will be going out in groups of four, instead of the actual groups of two (which Kat corrects her on). Starbuck appears to be in a slow decline, while Kat is on the rise.
6. Before going out on one of his first patrols, BB, one of the rookie pilots from Pegasus, nervously approaches Starbuck for advice on how to deal with Scar should he appear. What does Starbuck NOT tell him?

Answer: Stay close to his wingman

Starbuck is growing increasingly perturbed throughout the episode, thinking about Sam Anders back on Caprica and how Adama and Roslin will not allow her to return for him. This has led to her becoming self-destructive, especially drinking, and is snappy with the new recruits.

She gives BB basic advice on how to deal with Scar, who is clearly a superior pilot, and this partly leads to his death. Kat later tells BB to follow his wingman's lead and he'll be fine.
7. After Scar shoots down BB, Starbuck and Apollo share a drink. Apollo comments that in two weeks time, he won't remember BB's face. In response, what does Starbuck admit to Apollo?

Answer: She doesn't even remember their names

Although we later find it to be false, Starbuck tells Apollo that she doesn't remember the names of any of the pilots that previously died. Apollo is able to name Flat Top and Chuckles before being distracted by Starbuck spitting at him. Soon after, she continues her downfall in the episode by alienating Apollo after a failed "quick lay," admitting that she is hung up on Anders.
8. In a briefing prior to Starbuck and Kat's patrol shown throughout the episode, the pilots learn that Jo-Jo, the new recruit that came to Galactica with BB, was also shot down by Scar. His wingman, Snake, couldn't get a shot off before Scar jumped away. However, as Kat points out, Snake was not supposed to be Jo-Jo's wingman that day. Who should have been in his place?

Answer: Starbuck

The morning after Starbuck drinks with Apollo and finishes another bottle watching flight footage of a fight with Scar, she was supposed to have been Jo-Jo's wingman on a patrol. Kat calls her out on this fact in front of the other pilots, and Starbuck notes that she took herself off the roster because she was in no condition to fly, as opposed to Kat, who flew under the influence of stims.
9. Kat shoots down Scar with Starbuck's help, and in the victory celebration she fills Kat's newly-acquired "Top Gun" mug. Immediately after this, what does Starbuck do?

Answer: Lists the names of most of the pilots lost since the attacks

Despite her earlier claim that she didn't remember any of the names of the fallen pilots since the attacks, Starbuck lists off the names of each and every one: BB, Jo-Jo, Reilly, Beano, Dipper, Flat Top, Chuckles, Jolly, Crashdown, Shepherd, Dash, Flyboy, Stepchild, Puppet, and Fireball.

There were a few names Starbuck forgot, such as Ripper (killed in the Miniseries) and Karma (killed in "Kobol's Last Gleaming, Pt. 1").
10. Starbuck admits to Helo that she could have killed Scar, but pulled away because she knew she'd probably die in the process, and couldn't let go of the possibility that Anders was somehow still alive. How does Helo respond?

Answer: You've got something to live for now, not just die for

Helo and Starbuck have been growing closer since his return from Caprica with Sharon. While practicing boxing, Starbuck says that two months ago, she would have just gone for the glory and tried to pull it out of the fire, but the memory of Anders on Caprica and her promise to return kept her from risking death.

Helo says she did the right thing: Scar was dead, she and Kat came back alive, and now she has something to live for.
