Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. For the first time, the casting portion of the show was held in an international location. Where did the girls go for this?

Answer: The Caribbean

Thirty-three girls were called by Tyra Banks and told that they would be joining in the casting call for this ninth cycle of the show. This season, rather than heading to New York or Los Angeles, they met in San Juan, Puerto Rico to board the Royal Caribbean Adventure of the Seas.

Some were left behind in Antigua before thirteen were selected to return to Los Angeles and move into the green-conscious Top Model house. For their first shoot, the girls posed in two shots speaking out against the dangers of smoking in the modeling industry.

In front of the judging panel, Saleisha won a shopping spree and ad with Old Navy and Mila went home because the judges thought their critiques weren't sinking in. During this ceremony, Tyra announced that none of the contestants would be allowed to smoke during their tenure on the show.
2. As part of the initiative to 'go green', the girls posed as/with which of these in their shoot in week three?

Answer: Flowers/Plants

The second and third weeks were punctuated by the girls' walking lessons with Jay Alexander and make-overs before the following shoot. In week two, the girls posed in high fashion garments while rock climbing and went all-out with poses. Saleisha won a walking challenge with Colleen Quen and Kimberly was sent home for an uninspiring shoot. During week three, the challenge involved using Cover Girl make-up to get the perfect look for the runway.

After a shoot in which the girls needed to pose as flowers, the worst photo was not the issue; the judges instead sent Yale student Victoria home because of her snappy responses towards the judges (particularly Twiggy, for some odd reason).
3. During the fourth week, the girls participated in which activity?

Answer: Ice skating

In week four, the girls needed to meet with Benny Ninja and learn how to bring forth high-energy poses to the table. For their challenge, the girls strapped on ice skates and needed to evoke emotions while being thrown around by pairs skater Lloyd Eisler. Lisa won this challenge, causing a bit of animosity from the girls. To show off their new skills at a shoot, the girls ascended to the top of a skyscraper and posed as high-fashion gargoyles on a raised platform.

Some of the girls exhibited the problems they'd come to be known for; Janet, who needed too much help to get a good shot, went home.
4. Which girl quit the show in week five?

Answer: Ebony

Beginning the fifth week of the competition, the girls met Tyson Beckford and got a lesson in spokesmodeling. This culminated in a challenge in which the girls had to work as a team to do a thirty-second PSA spot for the Keep a Child Alive Campaign. Heather, Jenah and Ambreal won despite their initial worry that they'd been unprepared.

At random, Heather was selected to be in a photo shoot for nature-friendly company Carol's Daughter directed by Mary J. Blige. The judged shoot for this week was focused around recycled materials and Ambreal was set to be eliminated.

When Ebony was called out of the bottom two, however, she decided to quit, saving Ambreal from going home.
5. During the music video shoot in week six, the girls had to star in a video with which artist?

Answer: Enrique Iglesias

The girls dressed in leotards in week six and headed off to a dance studio for a lesson with Tyra herself. The goal: to get them set to be in a music video. When the girls went to the studio to shoot a music video they discovered that they would be acting in a video for Enrique Iglesias' song "Tired of Being Sorry". Because the video would have a Gothic vampire theme, the director asked Lisa and Heather to be in featured roles while the rest would appear in other capacities. During the shoot, Heather collapsed out of exhaustion but was fine for the judging panel.

Here, Sarah was considered the weakest, and from the judge's worries that she was losing too much weight, she went home.
6. In which environment did the girls need to participate in a shoot in week seven?

Answer: Scorching desert

In the seventh week, the final seven girls went to a fashion design school in Los Angeles to be a muse. The girls had to inspire a student designer and, as a result, inspire a dress (made from an existing outfit) that they'd have to wear and explain to a panel of judges (including the editor-in-chief of "Seventeen" magazine).

The winner, Saleisha, won a photo shoot in the magazine. For this week's shoot, the girls posed in front of a burning car in the middle of a desert. At the judging panel, Ambreal, who spent several weeks in the bottom two and was spared two weeks earlier by Ebony's quitting, was finally sent home.
7. To which country did the girls travel in this cycle?

Answer: China

At the judging panel for week seven, the girls were told that they would all be heading to Shanghai, China should they move on. Six were sent to Asia in week eight and checked into their hotel before a challenge. Traveling to a movie studio in Shanghai, the girls tested their body control with martial arts and then demonstrated their knowledge of the positions in a challenge while strung up on wires (a la "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon").

Heather won a shopping spree for doing the best job while Bianca refused to complete the challenge. For the shoot this week, the girls filmed commercials and had a still photo shoot for Cover Girl and Lisa ended up being the first to fly back to the United States.
8. During week eight, how many girls were disqualified from the go-sees challenge?

Answer: Three

Week eight was a week of go-sees. The final five girls hit the streets of Shanghai with a task involving PT Modeling Agency. Each needed to stop at five locations around the city and were given a translator and six hours. Only two girls made it back to the agency on time-- Saleisha and Bianca-- and Bianca won.

At dinner, the girls learned that Bianca's prize was a shoot for the 2008 Olympics. The shoot this week was done by Nigel Barker and the girls had to pose and be the breakout star in a shoot involving Chinese lions and dragons. Ultimately, Heather was sent home despite the judges' mention that she had one of the best portfolios of all of the girls.
9. Did Tyra act as photographer for any of the shoots this season?

Answer: Yes

In their penultimate week, the girls took a trip from Shanghai to Beijing, China. The girls met with Jay Alexander and Twiggy and learned about 'The Four Beauties' before checking into their new lodgings. But it wasn't long before the girls had a challenge, customizing and modernizing dresses worn by the 'Four Beauties' in one hour while keeping their stories into consideration. Jenah won this challenge and won not only Chinese garments, but a runway lesson from Ms. Jay. For the shoot, the girls had Tyra as their photographer atop the Great Wall and followed a Mongolian warrior theme solo before joining in a group shot.

At judging, Bianca was sent home for a poorer showing over the other three.
10. Who was America's Next Top Model in cycle 9?

Answer: Saleisha

In the girls' final week, the final three went off to their Cover Girl shoots, this time for Wetslicks Fruit Spritzers, and chose a flavour to embody for a commercial and photo shoot. After this, Jenah was the last girl sent home despite the fact that the judges said she had the most stunning photos.

After this, the final two girls ended up going to their couture runway show for Qi Gang at Beijing's Forbidden City. After an intense walk-off, Saleisha was deemed America's Next Top Model over Chantal, winning a contract with Elite Model Management, a cover and six-page spread in "Seventeen" magazine, and a $100,000 contract with Cover Girl.

After the show, Saleisha continued modeling on runways and in shoots as well as in music videos.
