Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. At the beginning of this episode, Mulder is buried in Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia.

Answer: False

Mulder is found and believed to be dead at the end of the eighth season episode, "This is Not Happening." Due to the deterioration of his body, Mulder "had to have a closed casket." He was then buried in Raleigh, North Carolina.
2. Early in the episode, the body of Billy Miles is discovered floating in the ocean by a fishing boat off the coast of North Carolina. He is taken to the county morgue in Wilmington, North Carolina for an autopsy. The coroner and his assistant are about to begin when they notice that the body is moving. What part of his body moved?

Answer: his lips

When the pathology assistant notices Billy's lips move, he tells the coroner. At first, the coroner thinks he's joking. The coroner is mid-sentence in his reply when he notices the lips move for himself. We later hear Skinner tell Doggett that Billy's vitals had "slowed to imperceptibility" and that "it's a fluke that the doctor even noticed."
3. According to what we are told in the episode, approximately how much time passes between when Mulder was buried and when his casket was exhumed?

Answer: three months

At the beginning of the episode, we see a burial service in a snow-covered cemetery in Raleigh, North Carolina. It is Mulder's burial service, and we see Scully, her mother, Skinner, The Lone Gunmen, Doggett, and Kersh, among others, gathered around a gravestone.

After the usual "The X-Files" introduction with the theme music, the next scene we see is in Kersh's office. At the bottom left hand corner, we see the signature type that is characteristic of "The X-Files." It reads, "THREE MONTHS LATER." Also, later in the episode, Doggett is speaking to Skinner when he tells him that Mulder's body was too deteriorated to be alive when they found him.

He says to Skinner that "the body was too far gone and that was three months ago." That night, Skinner and Doggett discover that Mulder was and is, indeed, alive.
4. "The word on the street is he's back from the dead. He's a regular Houdini." Which character said this line in the episode?

Answer: Krycek

This is a quote by Krycek as he talks with Skinner in the X-Files office. Krycek tells Skinner that he has a vaccine that can supposedly cure Mulder, but it doesn't come without a price. Later, he reveals that he wants to exchange the vaccine for the life of Scully's unborn child. Krycek is able to control Skinner by threatening to activate dormant nanobots in his blood to attack his brain stem.
5. In this episode, Doggett goes to visit Absalom at the Federal Correctional Facility in Perkey, West Virginia. He asks Absalom, "How are they treating you?" How does Absalom reply to this comment?

Answer: "Like a prophet."

Absalom sees himself as a prophet who aids in healing abductees and claims to possess knowledge regarding a supposed alien invasion. As Special Agent Monica Reyes discovers in the season eight episode, "This is Not Happening", Absalom is "a religious zealot who escaped a shoot-out in Idaho where he was the nominal leader of a doomsday cult who believed aliens would take over the world at the millennium." Reyes goes on to explain that Absalom later resorted to credit card fraud when his predictions proved faulty at the turn of the millennium.
6. Does Deputy Director Kersh make an appearance in this episode?

Answer: Yes

Deputy Director Kersh is actually shown at Mulder's burial service at the beginning of the episode, standing beside Agent Doggett. He is also seen in his office multiple times during the episode.
7. What about Agent Monica Reyes? Does she make an appearance in this episode?

Answer: No

Although Agent Reyes appeared in the eighth season episode, "This is Not Happening", and aided in the search for Mulder, she does not make another appearance until the season eight episode, "Empedocles."
8. What happens to the vaccine at the end of the episode?

Answer: It is dropped in the parking garage by Krycek, making it useless.

After Skinner tells Doggett that Krycek wanted him "to kill Scully's baby" in exchange for the vaccine, Doggett goes looking for Krycek in the parking garage. When he finds him, Doggett tries to get the vaccine by trying to take it from Krycek forcibly. Once Krycek gains full control of his car again, he drives to another area of the garage.

He is still in Doggett's line of vision when he pulls the vaccine out of his pocket and holds it up. Doggett watches helplessly as the vaccine falls to the floor.
9. When Doggett returns after his confrontation with Krycek, he goes to the operating room to talk with Scully about Mulder's condition. He asks if Mulder will "make it." Scully answers him by saying, "I really don't know how we could have known." To what is she referring?

Answer: The life support was actually allowing the virus to thrive in his body, instead of helpful him fight it.

Scully explains that "when Skinner pulled Mulder of off the machines, his temperature dropped rapidly without affecting his vital signs." She tells Doggett that "if we can stabilize him and his temperature we can give him courses of antivirals." We later see Mulder waking up in his bed with Scully beside him. We are led to believe that this course of treatment must have been effective.
10. What are Mulder's first words to Scully when he awakens?

Answer: "Who are you?"

When Mulder wakes up, he looks at Scully and jokingly asks her, "Who are you?" She initially believes him, but then she realizes he is kidding. With a smile on her face, she then tells him, "Don't do that to me." They enjoy a happy moment together. The scene ends with Scully resting her head on Mulder's chest, and the two rest together.
