Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What was the name of the toy store in which Locke was working in his flashback?

Answer: Toy Zone

There were two signs reading "Toy Zone", in bright red and yellow, on the toy shelves at the beginning of the episode. They could be seen clearly as a much younger-looking Locke (with hair!) showed the boy how to set the Mouse Trap game. When the woman (who was actually his mother) approached and asked for footballs, Locke made another reference to the famous "815". Regulation in aisle 8, he said, and nerf in 15.
2. What was the middle name of Locke's mother?

Answer: Annabeth

When Locke went for more information about his alleged "mother", the man gave him the DNA records and said it was "Emily Annabeth Locke in ten thousand words or less". Locke learned that his mother was hospitalized for schizophrenia, and that his DNA was a 99 percent match to hers.

When chasing her in the parking lot, Locke was hit by a car and mysteriously ran off unharmed, making her claim of "immaculate conception" worth a bit more consideration.
3. Which avenue name did not appear on the record papers given to Locke about his mother?

Answer: Cruzes Ave

On the papers, presumably addresses of the institutions, were "Bendix Ave", "Alma Ave", "Ocean Ave" and "Selma Ave". The page with Emily Locke's "DNA California" and driver's license was also legible. One interesting thing I picked up was that the license expired in 1994, making the timeline a bit more clear.

The man handed Locke his father's information, held in a red folder, saying that it "probably won't have a happy ending".
4. What was Locke's license plate number?

Answer: 2ABM487

The license plate (presumably California) was clearly seen when Locke drove his car through the gates to visit Anthony Cooper, his alleged father.
5. Jack was still wearing the key around his neck in this episode.

Answer: True

While Jack was talking to Kate and Sawyer about Sawyer's headaches, the Marshall's key to the Halliburton was still clearly around his neck. Jack's line about Sawyer giving him a one-liner and a nickname was amusing, but Jack showed good character (again) by helping Sawyer and even patting him on the back.
6. What was the name of the man guarding Mr. Cooper's gates?

Answer: Eddie

Locke said hello to Eddie several times as he pulled up to see his father. In the end, after completing the transplant, Locke was devastated by what his "father" had done and told the surveillance camera, "I know you're watching me. You can't do this to me!"
7. Why did Locke say this about the corpse of the man from Nigeria, "He must have been well-off?"

Answer: He had gold teeth

After Locke had fallen in the jungle, Boone tried to convince him to go back and Locke refused. He spotted a necklace with a cross dangling from a plant nearby. Boone wondered if anyone from camp had wandered so far and Locke said no, it had come from him- as he pulled a decomposing corpse from the tree. Upon investigation, Locke discovered the gold teeth (and the high-quality polyester prevented him from knowing how old the body was). Later Boone found Locke's "sign" inside the plane to be smuggled heroin inside statues of Holy Mary, which explained the wealth.
8. Locke said to Boone, "Everything breaks if you apply the right _______."

Answer: Force

Locke said this about the glass on the hatch, as he and Boone attempted to break it with a makeshift catapult. Boone was doubtful that the glass would break, but Locke was convinced that it would with the right amount of force. We saw him lose his temper for the first time, however, when the plan did not work. Boone was startled when Locke said that "the island will show us what to do".
9. Hurley appeared twice in this episode.

Answer: False

Hurley had only one appearance and one line in this episode. He walked by as Sawyer was trying on the mixed glasses that Sayid had welded together for his headaches. Hurley said, "Dude, it looks like someone steamrolled Harry Potter." (This was one of my personal favorites.)
10. In a final attempt to make communication on the radio before the plane went down, Boone said, "We are the survivors of Oceanic Flight 815." Did he receive a reply?

Answer: Yes

The receiver of the transmission (the person, that is), did reply and it was confirmed to have said, "We are the survivors of Oceanic Flight 815". It is questionable whether the message was in fact a response (possibly from other survivors?) or simply Boone's own message being echoed or repeated back to him. Boone could not respond, however, because the supports gave out and the tiny craft tumbled from the cliff. Locke overcame his paralysis once again to carry the injured Boone back to Jack, only to disappear.

In the last scene he knelt over the hatch, shouting in disbelief of what was "meant to be", when a light came on from below. (By the way, "Deus Ex Machina" is Latin for "God from the machine", referring to a fair and justified ending.)
