Lost Season 1 For Experts Trivia Questions

1. In the very first scene, who looked out on the city of Sydney at night from his hotel room?

From Quiz
1.23 "Exodus, Part 1"

Answer: Walt Lloyd

The episode opened up with Walt looking out the window on Sydney at night and then he turned on the TV. This woke up Michael and he told Walt to look at the time and see that it was time to go back to sleep. Walt told him that the show that on the TV, "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers", was one he always watched.

2. In the first scene, who watched as Shannon mourned Boone?

From Quiz 1.21 "The Greater Good"

Answer: Sayid Jarrah

In the previous episode, Shannon had been informed that Boone had died so the episode picked up with her right by his side, mourning her loss. Sayid was seen watching Shannon since they had become real close. Sayid asked Shannon if there was anything he could do for her but Shannon did not respond.

3. In the opening scene, Jin, Michael and who else were helping build another raft?

From Quiz 1.18 "Numbers"

Answer: Hugo "Hurley" Reyes

The episode began with Jin and Hurley down by the beach and they were building another raft. Jin spoke to Hurley in Korean and Hurley just asked him what he wanted. Jin used his hands to try and tell Hurley what he wanted so Michael saw them nearby and told Hurley that he thought Jin wanted him to hold the bamboo tighter.

4. In this episode, various conflicts erupted on the island. After a particular incident, someone vowed, "I will do what I need to do to find the man responsible." Who said this?

From Quiz "Lost": A "Confidence Man" Quiz

Answer: Sayid

As Jack tended to the head wound Sayid had received after being attacked (while triangulating the signal), Sayid revealed that the equipment had been destroyed and vowed to find the one responsible. Although Jack warned Sayid against any fast action, Boone arrived (after being beaten) and one word entered everyone's minds- Sawyer.

5. In Sun's first flashback, how many glasses of champagne were seen on the waiter's (Jin's) tray?

From Quiz "Lost": "House Of The Rising Sun"

Answer: Three

In the flashback, Jin and Sun appear in stark contrast to who they have now become on the island. We see Sun, dressed elegantly and chatting with two friends, as a waiter brings a tray carrying three cocktail glasses. We know at once by Sun's facial expressions that it is no ordinary situation. Later, in the gazebo, Sun and Jin secretly reunite and he gives her a white orchid as a vow for his love. While this episode reveals the change in their personalities and relationship from Sun's perspective, the partner episode "In Translation" fills the gaps and explains from Jin's point of view.

6. At the beginning of the episode, when Jack brought the exhausted Boone ashore, two survivors hurried to help Boone from the water. Who were they?

From Quiz "Lost": A "White Rabbit" Quiz

Answer: Kate and Charlie

While in the water, Jack was forced to make yet another crucial decision. Would he save Boone, or leave him and go back for Joanna? It was Kate and Charlie who helped Boone struggle ashore after nearly drowning, while Jack went back after the woman. (Her death left 46 survivors remaining.) Ironically, she was never supposed to be on the flight at all. Boone's less-than-grateful behavior left Jack facing the blame for being unable to save Joanna, though it was very clear that Boone would have been the drowned victim had Jack left him behind.

7. At the beginning of the episode, survivors are roaming the beach and searching through bags which had washed ashore. Off screen, a man is heard yelling from down the beach, "It looks like another ________!"

From Quiz "Tabula Rasa"

Answer: Battery

Batteries were soon to become a rare and valuable asset on the island, from the transmissions on the transceiver to the end-of-the-episode music provided by Hurley's CD player (the batteries of which did run empty later on). The scene then cuts to the bloody shrapnel embedded in the Marshal, who was rasping at Jack, "She's dangerous!" Notice that the Marshal's injuries are comparable to those which Boone later succumbed to, especially the perforated lung- Jack's reactions do not change much either.

8. What U.S. state name is featured on the box of matches that Sayid uses when tending to Charlie's wound?

From Quiz "LOST" Little Details: 'Exodus 2 and 3' Pt. 2

Answer: Ohio

The word 'Ohio' can be seen when Sayid strikes the match to light the gun powder in Charlie's cut. This method of cauterization (burning of blood vessels to stop or minimize bleeding) may be the one Sayid used while serving in the Republican Guard.

9. In the opening scene, what does Arzt say may have caused the 'Black Rock' to end up in the forest?

From Quiz "LOST" Little Details: 'Exodus 2 and 3' Pt. 1

Answer: A tsunami

While everyone is mystified that a huge ship could be stuck in the middle of the forest, Arzt reasons that since they are only a couple of miles inland, it is possible that a tsunami wave may have swept it into the jungle.

10. In the opening scene for this episode, we see a blonde haired Kate switching the license plates on her convertible. Which two state license plates does Kate switch?

From Quiz "LOST" Little Details: 'Born to Run'

Answer: Nebraska for Ohio

Although Kate later ends up in Iowa, we see her remove her Nebraska plates, go inside and dye her hair, ask a clerk for a letter and go back to her car where we can now see she has replaced the Nebraska plates for Ohio plates.

11. At the beginning of "Exodus, Part one", in the very first scene, the camera opens to a shot of objects which include all but which?

From Quiz "Lost": An "Exodus" Quiz -Part 1 of 3

Answer: A can of soda

This is part of a Michael/Walt flashback, occurring very early in the morning at their hotel, the day before boarding the plane. Walt spreads the wide curtains to reveal a twinkling skyline of the city, and then proceeds to wake up and agitate Michael by turning up the television. Michael proceeded to chase Walt (and Vincent) through the hotel, and told him he had to go on the plane (though Walt very clearly had other wishes.) A clear time difference is defined here, which shows how time has changed for the castaways since before the flight. In this case, Walt had told Michael that he was not his father in the flashback. In real life, however, Walt ironically wakes Michael up a second time and this time calls him "Dad".

12. At the beginning of the episode, when Kate went to the front desk of the hotel, the man pulled a letter from a shoe box with what brand name?

From Quiz "Lost": A "Born To Run" Quiz

Answer: Brown Shoe

After following a blonde-haired woman into a hotel room, we see her dye her hair and become a brunette (who we recognize to be Kate). Later Kate went to the guest service desk and receives a letter under the alias "Joan Hart". As the man behind the desk searched the envelope, the "Brown Shoe" logo could be read on the box's side. The "Brown Shoe" company operates many retail stores throughout the U.S. and Canada, including its largest as "Famous Footwear". After reading the letter given to her (which had money included), Kate is visibly devastated.

13. In Sayid's first flashback, he recalls being led as a prisoner through a large building. According to a large sign on the wall, where was this building located?

From Quiz "Lost": "The Greater Good"

Answer: England

As Sayid was led by the CIA officials through the building, a large green sign on a wall they passed read, "Heathrow Express, The Faster Way To Central London". The Heathrow Express runs between the Heathrow Airport and London Paddington station. It is suggested that the three were at the Heathrow Airport and "snatched Sayid up" as a possible terrorist. When being interrogated, Sayid simply told the officials, "I am an Iraqi. I am not a terrorist." It was later revealed that the CIA wanted to work with him to catch a terrorist... and a former friend of Sayid.

14. In the opening scene of "The Journey", one of the first images seen is a hand. To whom does it belong?

From Quiz "The Journey"

Answer: Charlie

The narration begins the journey through "Lost" where it began, on Oceanic Flight 815: "What if you are on a plane from Sydney to Los Angeles?". Charlie's hand (with a large, distinct ring pertaining to his band, which is later mentioned) was tapping and fidgeting nervously. The Marshal's face was also shown, along with others, as the narrator claimed the passengers as, "A plane full of strangers."

15. At the beginning of the episode, what was the first thing that Jack said he needed?

From Quiz "Lost": A "Do No Harm" Quiz

Answer: Room

Jack's first words in the opening scene were, "Come on, out of the way!" as he wheeled in the injured Boone. Kate, Sun and Hurley followed along behind as Jack called out orders. Jack told Kate to raid Sawyer's things for alcohol and asked Sun to get scissors, but the first thing he said (after telling people to move) was, "I need room!"

16. The first episode of "Lost", which aired in two parts as "The Pilot 1 and 2", cost approximately how much to create?

From Quiz The "Lost" Secrets Behind Oceanic 815 In Oahu

Answer: $10 million

This episode, which showed the first 24 hours for the survivors after the crash, took over a month to film and cost about $10 million to produce, making "The Pilot" one of the highest priced pilots in television history (it cost $250,000 alone to ship the plane pieces to Oahu). On the original airing date, "The Pilot" attracted approximately 18.65 million viewers worldwide. (Even before it was designated to ABC for fall 2004, the network had ordered several additional scripts beyond "The Pilot".) The first season covers the first 40 days on the island, with the intentional biblical reference of "40 days".

17. What was the name of the toy store in which Locke was working in his flashback?

From Quiz "Deus Ex Machina"

Answer: Toy Zone

There were two signs reading "Toy Zone", in bright red and yellow, on the toy shelves at the beginning of the episode. They could be seen clearly as a much younger-looking Locke (with hair!) showed the boy how to set the Mouse Trap game. When the woman (who was actually his mother) approached and asked for footballs, Locke made another reference to the famous "815". Regulation in aisle 8, he said, and nerf in 15.

18. Flashbacks during the opening scene have been pretty common on "LOST". Who has a flashback in the opening scene of this episode?

From Quiz "All the Best Cowboys..."

Answer: Nobody

There is no flashback during the opening scene of this episode. It continues immediately after the previous episode ended when Sayid returns from the French woman's lair. In the frantic opening scene, there is a lot of yelling and running, but Jack doesn't actually have a flashback until the second scene when the opening credits appear.

19. What was the name of the Mega Lotto broadcaster?

From Quiz "Lost": "The Numbers" Quiz

Answer: Mary Jo

Hurley was watching television while his mother complained about him not being out on Saturday night. Hurley flipped through the channels and landed on the lottery drawing. The male spokesperson introduced Mary Jo, and she announced the winning numbers for the record jackpot of $156 million after the sixteenth drawing week. (The broadcaster was played by Harold Perrineau's (Michael) real-life wife.)

20. What is Sun's last name before marriage?

From Quiz "Lost": A Quiz "In Translation"

Answer: Paik

At the beginning of the episode, in Jin's flashback, he was nervously requesting permission from Sun's father to marry her. He mentioned that although he was from a fishing village he had ambitions to open a restaurant and own a hotel. When asked to give up his dream for Sun, Jin said that she was his dream.

21. When Sawyer awoke from the flashback and heard noises in his tent, what was the first thing he picked up?

From Quiz "Lost": An "Outlaws" Quiz

Answer: Flashlight

Sawyer was dreaming about when he was a boy and was hiding beneath his bed from his father. He awoke to rustling and snorting in his tent, and reached for a flashlight nearby. When it lit up on the boar's face, Sawyer whacked him with a stick and chased him into the jungle (tent and all).

22. In the beginning of the episode, how long does the CIA agent say Sayid has been in a holding cell?

From Quiz "LOST" Little Details: 'The Greater Good'

Answer: 18 hours

The CIA and the SIS want Sayid's help to locate some C-4 explosives that were stolen by terrorists. When he tells them he wants no part in catching the guilty parties, the CIA and SIS offer to tell him where Nadia is in exchange for his help.

23. At the beginning of "Homecoming", about how long had it been since the plane crashed on the island?

From Quiz "Lost": A "Homecoming" Quiz

Answer: One month

Claire awoke to what appeared to her as a circle of faceless strangers, and was terrified. She seemed to have lost her memory of everything prior to the flight. When Jack asked what she remembered last, Claire said that she was on a plane headed for L.A. Jack told her they all were also on that plane, and crashed on the island about a month ago. Claire asked, "If it's been a month, why hasn't anyone come for us?"

24. In the opening scene, Boone has a problem with the word "trebuchet" because he doesn't understand why they called it that. He thinks the trebuchet looks like something else. What does Boone think the trebuchet looks like?

From Quiz "Deus Ex Machina"

Answer: A catapult

Boone asks Locke why they called it trebuchet if the thing looks just like a catapult. Locke responds by explaining that they called it a trebuchet because it IS a trebuchet. Boone goes on to say he wouldn't even know how to spell trebuchet, and Locke tells him that it has a 't' on the end.

25. When Hurley has his first flash back, what are the first three types of shows we see him flip through on the television?

From Quiz "LOST" Little Details: "Numbers"

Answer: Square dancing, aerobics, and cooking

The first three things on the television that we see before we actually see Hurley are square dancing, aerobics and a cooking show. His mom calls out to him to say she hopes he's not watching the girls in the g-strings. He replies that he's not, reminds her that she needs to respect his privacy, and continues flipping channels. The next three shows we see are a police show, a hockey game and finally the lotto show he was looking for.

26. What was Sun's maiden name?

From Quiz "LOST" Little Details: "In Translation"

Answer: Paik

Jin referred to Sun's father as Mr. Paik when he went to ask for his permission to marry Sun.

27. Whose name is called out first in this episode?

From Quiz "LOST" Little Details: "Homecoming"

Answer: Jack's

Charlie is sleeping when Locke and Boone come into the cave with Claire. A commotion ensues and Charlie wakes up as someone calls out for Jack. Charlie then sees Claire and calls out her name.

28. Michael asks Walt to help him separate strips of metal and plastic tubing from the wreckage that could work as what?

From Quiz "LOST" Little Details: "Special"

Answer: A frame

Walt asks, "A frame for what?" and Michael simply tells him that he'll see soon enough.

29. At the beginning of "Special" as Michael was searching for Walt, who were the first two people he asked about his son?

From Quiz "Lost": A "Special" Quiz

Answer: Charlie and Jack

Every episode seems to begin with the eyes, followed by a survivor's point of view. The screen opened on Michael's darting eyes as he searched the jungle for Walt, who seemed to have disappeared again. Michael first encountered Charlie, who was asking about Claire's luggage as Michael asked where his boy was. Jack approached them next, and Micheal asked if Jack had listened to his father at Walt's age. Jack replied yes, probably too well. Hurley came by announcing another golf tournament, but no one had seen Walt. (He was, of course, throwing knives with Locke.)

30. What is Shannon doing when Boone approaches her to nag about her not helping the others move everything up the beach?

From Quiz "LOST" Little Details: "Whatever the Case May Be"

Answer: Reading a magazine

Boone approaches her and says "I'm glad to see you're doing something productive with your time." Shannon asks Boone what he's been doing in the forest with Locke for days on end and Boone tells her that they are looking for Claire. Shannon says that she heard there was nowhere to look for Claire and Boone says "Well at least I'm doing something." He then proceeds to call Shannon worthless which appears to really hurt Shannon's feelings.
