Waking up in bed to find a clown lying next to her under the sheets, Ally rushes downstairs to find Ivy in the kitchen. Ally urges her to call the cops, but first Ivy grabs a knife and the two go up to investigate. When neither of them finds anything, Ivy suggests that she doesn't know how much more she can take. Aly has to concede...maybe she doesn't know what's wrong with herself anymore. They don't realize that someone is in Oz's room turning out the night light.

When he turns it back on, a pair of clowns, one of which is Twisty, chase and corner him in the bathroom, breaking in through the door.

His mothers discover, however, that he's just having a night terror.

Answer: Run for town council

The video of Kai Anderson being attacked by migrant workers makes its way to the news courtesy of Harrison and Meadow Wilton and the workers are sent to an ICE facility to face deportation. In the same report, Kai announces that he is heading to city hall to apply to run for city hall council in the wake of Councilman Chang's tragic death.

He asks viewers to vote for him. Ally, meanwhile, notices someone moving into Councilman Chang's house across the road and, coincidentally, it's Meadow Wilton. From afar, Ally sees as her movers transport large, blue barrels into the garage, one of the movers wearing what appears to be a radiation suit.

At the Butchery on Main, racial tensions arise in the kitchen between a line cook and Ivy's sous chef and Ally needs to step in to deescalate the situation before it can get violent. The sous chef insists they fire the worker, but Ally won't do so under the current political climate.
Back at the house, Winter takes care of Oz by picking him up from school and giving him a Twisty action figure, which he's not too excited about. They discuss what they saw the previous night, and while Oz is untrusting because Winter lied to Ally and Ivy about what they saw, he allows Winter to perform a pinky promise.
When Ally and Ivy return home though, they find that Oz is across the street with the new neighbours; she left him with them while she went to get him a jacket.

Ally and Ivy rush across to the Wiltons' place and to the backyard to find Oz perfectly alright, though he's with the neighbours in their backyard apiary, handling honeycombs swarming with bees. Harrison assures the parents that their child will come to no harm, but Ally is more than worried about allergies and, of course, the honeycombs due to her trypophobia.
Harrison goes on to discuss his interests in the general construction of a hive community; all of the workers can move towards one common goal and achieve it.
The Wiltons explain quite frankly why they moved in on leasing the house and invite the Mayfair-Richards in for some Crystal Light Lemonade.

In the house, Meadow explains that she can't stay out in the sun for too long since she was diagnosed with skin cancer a few years back and still gets melanomas in longer times of exposure. While looking around their living room, Ally discovers that they're also big fans of Nicole Kidman, being actual members of the Michigan chapter of her fan club.

It's then that they reveal Harrison is also gay, but they've decided to marry and live together for the mutual benefits. Before the Mayfair-Richards duo get into their own lives, Ally suggests that they leave as it's clear she's a bit uncomfortable. Before they head out, they can't help but notice the gory stains where the Changs' blood still marks the front door and main hallway floor.

That night, while discussing the new neighbours and their eccentricities, Ivy gets a message that the butchery alarm has gone off. While it's probably just a faulty wire, someone needs to check it. Ally volunteers to go so that Ivy can stay with a frightened Oz.
Ally arrives on the site and finds they, yes, the alarm is sounding. She shuts it off and starts to head out, but not before hearing something in the meat locker. To her surprise, the lights inside won't turn on, but when she goes in, she finds the concern-- the sous chef has been killed and hung from the hooks inside.

The next week, while security bars are installed on the windows of the house, Ally is surprised by a visit from Dr. Vincent, who Ivy says was just in the neighbourhood. Clearly, she invited him by. Ally discusses the crime scene in the mat locker and reveals that she killed the sous chef, though not intentionally.

In an effort to remove him from the meat hook, she accidentally continued to lower him onto it. While the police make it clear that Ally didn't commit the crime, they do feel as though Pedro is the one to pin it on. Ally says that her phobias were vindicated by the event, and after talking to the Wiltons and seeing their surprisingly large gun collection, she realized that she needed to obtain a gun and protect her family with it. Dr. Vincent is very worried by this, but can't really say anything to Ivy about it.

He does, however, suggest to Ivy that her wife may be developing severe agoraphobia, but considering the recent events, fortifying the windows isn't too extreme.

While the security technician finishes installing the bars on Ally and Ivy's doors, Ally hears a knock at the front entrance. She finds that it's the man who threw a latte at her and Ivy a few weeks back-- Kai Anderson-- and he's come around to campaign for city council.

He asks if he can come in to discuss his campaign points, but she doesn't allow it. Instead, he asks her when she last felt safe, quoting stats he found on Facebook to sway her opinion. She refuses to be swayed though, insisting that she'd rather tear down walls and build bridges.

This doesn't seem to be the case though, he says, since she's building barriers to protect herself in her own home. He intimidates her until she slams the door on him. At the butchery, Ivy talks to Pedro about what happened.

Winter harshly puts Oz to bed while Ally seals the security points in the house. Oz asks if she'll do the pinky promise with him so that they can get to the bottom of his nightmares, but she suggests that if he can't tell if he's in a dream or he's awake, he should just ask. Downstairs, Ally thinks about finally taking her medicine but still can't bring herself to do it.

She tells Winter that the pills make her feel foggy and Winter recommends another way to unwind-- red wine and soothing bath salts-- before running her a bath in the ensuite. Ally gets in, but is surprised when Winter sits next to her and begins massaging her.

It seems as though things are about to get complicated when the house alarm sounds and the power cuts out.

A clown walks through Oz's room and Oz asks if he's awake or asleep. The clown says he's asleep as the boy lays back down.
Downstairs, Winter tells Ally that the whole block is out of power as they gather candles. Harrison appears at the door and suggests it's a terrorist attack since the radio has said the power is out in four states. Winter leaves since all of her things are at home, and Ally and Oz are left to themselves in the dark. They aren't alone though.
Ally calls Ivy, but Ivy needs to get a backup generator to save their recently-replaced stock of meat in cold storage. Ally's phone dies mid-call, so Ivy sends Pedro over with supplies.
Outside, an ice cream truck pulls up in front of the Wiltons' house, so Ally pushes furniture in front of the doors. She checks the back-up battery for the security system only to find it's been ripped out of the console. That's when she realizes that there are clowns in the house with her.
She grabs the gun from her bedside table and wakes up Oz, bringing him downstairs. They head to the back door and plan an escape to the Wiltons' house, but when Ally opens the door, someone's there. She doesn't see it's Pedro, and it's too late when she shoots him in the chest.
