Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What decade, known for big hair and synthesizer music, does "Stranger Things" take place in?

Answer: '80s

Episode one takes place in 1983 and has plenty of '80s references to please viewers watching the show who are nostalgic for that decade. Some of those include the music, the decor, the landline phones (with cords!), a tube TV with antenna, lots of feathered hair, plenty of blue eye shadow, a poster for the movie "The Thing" and a reference to the movie "Poltergeist", which opened in 1982 and is used in a flashback scene.
2. Which actress, who starred in the movies "Beetlejuice", "Little Women", "Heathers" and "Alien: Resurrection", plays the role of Joyce Byers?

Answer: Winona Ryder

Winona Ryder acted for many years and has been in numerous movies and also played roles on TV. Ryder has been nominated for Academy Awards and won a Golden Globe award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the 1993 movie "The Age of Innocence".

In "Stranger Things" she plays the role of the loving, concerned and slightly-scattered single mom Joyce Byers. Joyce is mom to two boys, Will and Jonathan, his older brother.
3. Where do we first see Eleven?

Answer: Outside a diner

When we are introduced to Eleven, she is barefoot, dirty, has a shaved head and is wearing a nightgown. She is outside watching a diner as she waits for an opportunity to sneak inside for food. She is caught by Benny, who is working there, but he is incredibly kind to her, makes her food, tries to talk to her and calls Social Services to try to get her help.

He notices the tattoo "011" on her arm and finds out that she is called Eleven.
4. What song is playing during the season two trick-or-treat scene?

Answer: "Monster Mash"

The boys are out trick or treating and Dustin and Lucas have invited Max, a girl both boys have a crush on, to join them. This annoys Mike who complains to Will before stomping off. Will is accosted by older kids, falls down and finds himself in the Upside Down, terrified at the sight of the gigantic monster he sees there until he is awoken from his vision by Mike.
5. Eleven does have a more traditional name. What is it?

Answer: Jane

Eleven's birth name is Jane Ives and in season two, she is taken in by Hopper and rehabilitated back to acceptable social behaviour, after spending so much time being experimented on in a government lab. Hopper and Eleven bond quite a bit while she tries to find her birth mother.

At the end of the second season, Hopper adopts her and she takes the name Jane Hopper. She also develops a relationship with Mike and he simply calls her "Elle".
6. What type of business does Bob Newby run?

Answer: Radio Shack

Bob is a former classmate of both Joyce and Police Chief Hopper who becomes a love interest for Joyce. He is kind, well-meaning and a little bit at-odds with Hopper, who has feelings for Joyce. In one scene, he tries to be helpful to Will by telling him to face his fears because that's what he did when he had nightmares but he unknowingly sets Will up for more danger.
7. What major event happens to lovable and likable Bob Newby?

Answer: He gets killed by demo-dogs

Such a nice character and a sad loss for Joyce. He really cares about her, gets her dancing, treats her well and is good to her boys. While he, Joyce, Will, Mike, Sam Owens and Hopper are trapped inside Hawkins Lab, he volunteers to reset a breaker so that the door can be unlocked and they can get out. He manages to reset the breaker and get the door unlocked but he is killed and eaten by demo-dogs in front of Joyce.
8. What's the name of the mall the kids spend quite a bit of time at?

Answer: Starcourt Mall

The mall is a key location during season three. Steve works there at the ice cream shop, we are introduced to a new character named Robin who works with Steve and speaks four languages (five if you count Pig Latin), and we find out that underneath the mall is a secret Russian lab that is being used for nefarious purposes. Robin's knowledge of languages comes in very handy for the kids.
9. What summer job does Billy Hargrove have that makes the ladies happy?

Answer: Lifeguard

Billy Hargrove is Max's stepbrother and an abusive bully. He is also good looking, works out and has good hair. He works as a lifeguard and in a hilarious scene, he is shown walking across a pool deck in slow motion, music playing and being checked out by all the ladies that are there to see him. Being the jerk that he is, he sees a larger boy running and of course insults him in front of everyone before complimenting one of the older ladies at the pool.
10. Although his friends don't quite believe he met a girl at summer camp, he actually did. What is Dustin's girlfriend's name?

Answer: Suzie

Having met at Camp Know Where, Suzie and Dustin communicate via radio all during season three and she plays a key role in the final episode of that season by giving Dustin the mathematical equation Planck's Constant which is the code used to essentially save the world.

In order for her to give him the equation, she makes him sing a song over the radio that all his friends on the same frequency hear. Dustin and Suzie are smart and adorable, calling each other Suzie-Poo and Dusty-Bin.
