Obviously not expecting to deliver twins, the woman has only chose the name of Jacob. After delivering the second boy, she asks to see the second twin. The older woman seems to pause in reflection for a moment. She then, inexplicably, murders the new mother by striking her repeatedly with a stone.

Jacob's brother finds a game which resembles the ancient Egyptian game of Senet. The consists of black and white stones. Jacob's brother persuades Jacob to play the game. After displaying some initial reluctance, Jacob agrees to play the game.

"What were you and your brother doing down at the beach?" Jacob, evasively replies, "We were just walking." Jacob's mother then joins Jacob's brother on the beach and elicits the truth from Jacob's brother. The surrogate mother tells Jacob's brother that Jacob had told her about the game. She appears to express favoritism for Jacob's brother.

Answer: They find other island inhabitants.

Imagining that they are the only inhabitants of the island, the brothers are rightfully perplexed and shocked to see other people on the island. In unison, they confront their mother about the existence of other people on the island. She insists that they should never come in contact with these people. Ironically, the MiB repeats these very same words .. centuries later, "They come, they fight, they destroy, they corrupt.

It always ends the same."

Jacob's brother is visited by his biological mother. Jacob's brother wants to know why Jacob cannot see her. She says, "Because I'm dead." She then proceeds to explain that she is the biological mother of the twins. Next, she takes Jacob's brother to the civilization developed by her own shipmates. Jacob's brother is now convinced that he must join this group of people. Before they part ways, Jacob's surrogate mother pleads with Jacob's brother not to leave.

She insists that he will never be able to leave the island.

It was and continues to be Jacob's brother's quest.

Even though Jacob continues to live with his mother, he occasionally visits his brother and observes his existence among the people with whom he has chosen to live. Jacob's brother readily admits that the people are, "greedy, manipulative, untrustworthy and selfish." Yet, he believes that with their help, he can find a way off the island. Jacob's brother hurls his knife at a stone structure.

The knife is attracted to the magnetic force of the structure. It is Jacob's introduction to physics.

Expressing remorse and genuine sorrow in the realization that she cannot prevent her surrogate son from completing his plan to leave the island, she offers her farewell. She seizes the moment though, to knock her son unconscious and subsequently burn down the village, killing all of the inhabitants.

It may be with a tinge of reluctance that this mother of the island cedes her powers to Jacob. She recites something in another language and then asks Jacob to drink the wine. After some protest, Jacob, being the dutiful son, obliges and drinks the wine. His mother then declares, "Now, we are the same."

Answer: Jacob thrusts his brother into the cave of golden light.

In utter anguish and fury, Jacob hurls his brother into the cave of golden light. Jacob is certainly mindful of his mother's words, "It is worse than dying. It is much worse." Thus, confident that this could be the worst fate imaginable, Jacob hurls his brother down into the stream leading into the cave. Jacob watches in awe and surprise as a furious black voluminous plume of smoke emanates from the cave.
