Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. When Locke initially regained consciousness after the plane crash, what did he reach for first?

Answer: His shoe

When Locke first woke up lying on the beach, he wiggled his toes. Then, he reached for his nearby shoe and put it on. He stood gingerly, then ran to help Jack when Jack called out that he needed a hand.
2. What caused Vincent to bark during the night and wake everyone up?

Answer: Wild boars in the camp

During the night, Vincent began to bark incessantly. At first, everyone was annoyed. Then they heard a strange noise coming from the fuselage and realized that wild boars were snacking on the bodies of the dead passengers.
3. Sawyer and Hurley got into a loud argument and shoving match. What were they fighting over?

Answer: Peanuts

When Jack interrupted the fight, Hurley accused Sawyer of hoarding the last of the peanuts. Hurley then told Jack that there was no more food left.
4. Before the hunting party left to look for wild boar, Jack referred to the name of a book when talking about the jungle. What was it?

Answer: "Heart of Darkness"

Jack asked Kate why she was always one of the first to volunteer for any trek into the "Heart of Darkness", referring to the jungle. "Lord of the Flies" is a book about a group of schoolboys who were stranded on an island when their plane crashed.
5. Which of the following people was not part of the boar hunting party?

Answer: Jack

Locke led the hunting party, with Kate and Michael going along to assist him. Kate had an ulterior motive in making the trip; she wanted to plant one of Sayid's antennas in the jungle to help him triangulate the distress signal they had picked up.
6. Which castaways actively tried to catch fish in the ocean?

Answer: Hurley and Charlie

Boone teased Shannon about her lack of ability to catch fish for herself, but she didn't actually make the effort. Instead, she convinced Charlie to fish for her. He knew very little about fishing, and recruited Hurley to help him. Eventually, one of the two managed to catch a fish, which Charlie presented to Shannon.
7. What did Jack promise Rose on the plane?

Answer: He would wait with her until her husband came back from the restroom.

Jack and Rose had a private conversation on the beach. She told him that he didn't have to keep his promise from the plane, which was that he would keep her company until her husband Bernard returned from the restroom. Rose told Jack she believed that Bernard was still alive.
8. Locke had a woman in his life named Helen. What was his relationship to her?

Answer: She was a woman he paid to talk to on the phone.

While talking with Helen by phone, Locke told her he bought her a ticket to go to Australia with him. Helen told him she wasn't allowed to meet "customers", and she would have to charge him another $89.95 if they continued to talk.
9. Who led the makeshift memorial service that was held for the victims, when the fuselage was burned?

Answer: Claire

Claire felt it was important to acknowledge the victims of the crash. As the fuselage burned, she read out each name, along with any information she had been able to gather about the person from their effects.
10. Throughout the episode, Locke repeated the same sentence several times; it was basically his motto. What was it?

Answer: Don't tell me what I can't do.

Locke cited the example of a double amputee who climbed Mount Everest because it was his destiny. Locke didn't want to be underestimated because of his handicap; he had been wheelchair-bound for four years before the crash.
