Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. At the beginning of 'White Gold' we see several prowlers enter the 4077th compound in search of medical supplies. How many of these darkly clad thieves are part of this supply raid?

Answer: 3

As the thieves pass several tents, we hear quite a bit of amusing banter emanating from the 4077th. Trapper and Hawkeye are both schmoozing nurses, while Margaret and Frank carry on in Margaret's tent. The unfortunate Maxwell Q. Klinger is on guard duty during the commotion at the beginning of this episode.
2. Though they apparently seek several different items from the supply tent, what particular medicine to these thieves make their top priority?

Answer: Penicillin

According to one of the thieves, the black market price of penicillin is '$150 a pop'. Not knowing the comparative prices of other medicines, it's not clear if this price is exceptionally extraordinary, but it seems like a lot for the early 1950s!
3. When the thieves are discovered, they scatter, but one unfortunate individual among them remains in the compound, cornered by the various 4077th personnel. Klinger is able to apprehend the thief using what girlish item of clothing?

Answer: Fur stole

During the ruckus, the young man is injured in the abdomen, an injury that requires that his belly be wrapped. His dog tags say that his name is Corporal Perkins, but they turn out to be stolen. This 'Perkins' is played by character actor Hilly Hicks.
4. This episode marks the fourth appearance of Edward Winter, who we 'M*A*S*H' fans know better as Colonel Sam Flagg. What does Flagg claim his name is in this episode?

Answer: Captain Goldberg

In this episode, the ever-imaginative Flagg is once again playing dress-up, this time as a Jewish rabbi named Goldberg. This was Winter's fourth appearance on the show, and third as Flagg (the first time he appeared was as a certain Captain Halloran).
5. Colonel Flagg has color-coded each member of the 4077th personnel based his relationship with them. Both Hawkeye and Trapper are color-coded as red. What, specifically, does the color red signify, according to Flagg?

Answer: Unfriendlies

Not only does Colonel Flagg announce the color-coding of Hawkeye and Trapper, he also has poor, unwitting Henry Blake color-coded as yellow, signifying 'work on it'. The only thing I think needs working on is Flagg's sanity...where is Sidney Freedman when we need him?
6. Colonel Flagg intends to confront the young man who has been captured by the 4077th personnel. When he enters the tent where the prisoner is being kept, who is overseeing the lad?

Answer: Frank

Frank has been given orders to guard the young kid, and takes it very seriously. Colonel Flagg, who wants Frank to vamoose, suggests, 'I am CIA, we can supersede any one's orders!' Frank responds, 'Well, you can't supersede the President.' Flagg's retort: 'Just give us time...'
7. After Flagg is alone with the prisoner, he surprisingly lets the young man get away scot-free.

Answer: True

Flagg tells 'Perkins' to 'scram'. He then creates a mess in the tent, simulating the appearance of a brouhaha. Flagg then proceeds to beat himself up, finally running his head into the door of a large cabinet. Perhaps this is occupational therapy for him?
8. Later in the episode, the supply tent is again being raided for supplies by an apparent thief. Is the perpetrator the same young man who was caught thieving earlier?

Answer: No

Indeed not! This time it is Colonel Flagg himself who almost inexplicably raids the supply tent. Flagg claims that he is also after penicillin. 'My orders are to do whatever it takes to break up this penicillin ring, and I have written permission to die in the attempt!', he says. It's official, the man has flipped his lid!
9. As the episode closes, we finally discover the true identity of the young man who was caught raiding the medical supplies. What is the young fellow's real name?

Answer: Johnson

Corporal Johnson works as a medic for the 415th infantry. His unit needs penicillin and other supplies to help care for wounded at the front. Apparently these items are dangerously under provided. Hawkeye and Trapper suggest that the next time Johnson needs certain medical supplies, he needs but to ask.
10. Hawkeye and Trapper decide that Colonel Flagg is a true danger to himself, and the military at large. What procedure do they perform on Flagg in order to remove him from the game for a while?

Answer: They remove his appendix

Perhaps the lobotomy would be the best choice, but Hawkeye and Trapper aren't that cruel. They do, however, remove his appendix, something that Hawkeye does in a much later episode despite BJ's protestations.
