Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Sigmund was a friendly sea monster who had been kicked out of family for his refusal to scare people. Two human brothers hide Sigmund in their clubhouse in an effort to keep him out of sight from his brothers and the boy's housekeeper and nosy neighbors. What are the names of the brothers that force Sigmund to leave his home?

Answer: Burp and Slurp

Airing on Saturday mornings, "Sigmund the Sea Monster" ran from 1973 to 1975 and was produced by Sid and Marty Krofft. The program's cast included Billy Barty as Sigmund, Johnny Whitaker, Mary Wickes and Margaret Hamilton (more famous for her role as the Wicked Witch of the West in 1939 movie "The Wizard of Oz").
2. On the TV show "The Munsters", the Herman Munster family lived at what address?

Answer: 1313 Mockingbird Lane

The house was built in 1946 for the movie "So Goes My Love". The original Victorian styled home of the Munster family was set in fictional Mockingbird Heights. The town's location is never revealed in the series, but most fans feel it was based in the Los Angeles area.
3. On "The Munsters", the matriarch of the household was a vampire named Lily Munster, wife of Herman. What physical feature did Lily have that set her looks apart from those of the ladies in the neighborhood?

Answer: A large white streak in her hair

Lily's long white streak through her hair is eerily similar to Elsa Lanchester's hair style in the movie "Bride of Frankenstein".
4. On the TV show "The Addams Family", Gomez and Morticia Addams lived at what address?

Answer: 0001 Cemetery Lane

On the television series, they live in a dreary looking mansion next to a swamp and cemetery. In the "Addams Family" musical, the house is located in Central Park, New York.
5. As a counterpart to "The Munsters", the creepy and kooky "Addams Family" ran during the same 1964-1966 period. Which show garnered more ratings and a larger fan-base in that two year span?

Answer: "The Munsters"

"The Munsters" relied on easy-to-understand slapstick silliness, while the "Addams Family" got their laughs from witty dialogue and highbrow humor that may have narrowed their fan base.
6. "Dark Shadows" was an American Gothic soap opera that originally aired from 1966 to 1971. The story lines were unprecedented for daytime television because it featured zombies, witches and warlocks, time travel, man-made monsters and a parallel universe. The show also included vampires, most notably the show's male lead played by Jonathan Frid. What was the name of this sunlight deficient character?

Answer: Barnabas Collins

"Dark Shadows" garnered a fan base of such notables as Directors Tim Burton and Quentin Tarantino and pop icon Madonna. Johnny Depp, a fan of the show since a child, has collaborated with his long-time associate, Tim Burton to take the television program to the big screen. The film adaptation, released in 2012, would feature Johnny playing the time-traveling vampire, Barnabas Collins.
7. What character on "Sesame Street", since his debut, modified his trademark quality in response to concerns to the physical development or our nation's children?

Answer: Cookie Monster

Cookie Monster is best known for his intense love of cookies and phrases like: "Me want cookie!" and "Om nom nom nom". He has eaten anything and everything from cookies and pastries of all varieties as well as assorted inedible objects such as telephones.

In response to the growing awareness of childhood obesity and the need to create healthy eating habits in children, he switched his frenzy for cookies to statements that they are "a sometime snack" and that he also likes fruits and vegetables.
8. What musical instrument does the character Animal, a member of Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem and a regular on "Sesame Street" and "The Muppet Show" play?

Answer: Drums

Animal has often been compared with famous drummers. Buddy Rich, one of Animal's musical idols said in a "Muppet Show" episode, "All drummers are animals." Animal also considers Gene Krupa, Keith Moon and Ginger Baker of Cream and Blind Faith other strong influences in his musical style.
9. In "Land of the Lost", running from 1974-1976, Rick Marshall and his children, Will and Holly, are enjoying a river rafting trip. As they are heading over a waterfall, an earthquake occurs which somehow opens up a break in time, sending the Marshalls into a strange land populated by dinosaurs and Bigfoot type animals. They also encounter lizard-like creatures called what?

Answer: Sleestacks

Sleestaks are green humanoids with features such as scaly skin, a frilled neck, large unblinking eyes, pincer-like hands, tails, and a single horn on top of their heads. They often communicate with each other by way of a hissing sound. Sleestaks live in an underground tunnel complex. Because they hate bright light they rarely venture out in daylight.
10. My favorite monster from my TV watching childhood was an animated character in the Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies cartoon series, produced by Warner Brothers. He was a red hairy monster, with a heart shaped face atop a large rectangular body. His only facial features were his eyes and a wide mouth showing through his fur. His arms were quite long for his body and his fingernails were claw-like. His stature and shape was very much like an oafish football player. The only clothing he wore was the tennis shoes on his feet. What is the name of this "adorable" monster?

Answer: Gossamer

The word "gossamer" means any sort of a gauze or silk fabric of the very finest texture and is characterized by unusual lightness and delicacy- being compared to a light cobweb. The irony of character's name is due to his bulky, ungainly appearance and his menacing and destructive persona.

In episodes where he appears he is often shown to be the victim of many of Bugs Bunny's escapades.
