Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In Leg 1, teams flew to Sao Paulo, Brazil to locate their clues. One, directly on the Viaduto Santa Ifigênia, proved difficult for some teams despite being in plain sight.

Answer: True

Beginning the race just outside Denver, Colorado in Leg 1, teams were told to drive themselves to the airport to take one of three flights heading southeast to Sao Paulo, Brazil, one of the most densly-populated cities in the western hemisphere. Upon their arrival, teams located a clue box atop the Hotel Unique before they were directed through the city to the Viaduto Santa Ifigênia.

Although the cluebox here was located directly on the bridge, some teams (notably Fran and Barry) had trouble locating it and spent (re: wasted) a good deal of effort walking by it.
2. In Leg 3, teams found Phil and the mat in Red Square in Moscow, Russia. What is true about this event?

Answer: It did not feature a mandatory rest period

After continuing through Brazil in Legs 1 and 2, teams were told to fly to the capital city of Russia, Moscow, to complete some chilly tasks in the northern hemisphere. This included a high-dive into an outdoor Olympic training pool for the Road Block and a choice between searching Russian nesting dolls or cleaning a trolley bus for their Detour.

At the end of the leg (as it was presumed to be), the teams hit the third Pit Stop mat in Moscow's Red Square behind St. Basil's Cathedral to be told that they would continue racing to Stuttgart, Germany. No one was eliminated and no one had a mandatory rest period in Russia.
3. In Leg 4, teams visited Teatro Massimo, a building in what Italian city?

Answer: Palermo

After completing the double-length third leg of the race in Russia and much of Bavaria (in Germany), teams were told to fly to the island of Sicily and reach a clue box waiting outside the majestic Teatro Massimo building in Palermo, Italy. During their visit to Sicily, teams needed to search beautiful coastal towns while sorting through laundry or carrying heavy objects. For the Road Block at the Teatro di Segesta, team members needed to construct a Greek statue puzzle (with two extra pieces) before running to the Pit Stop at the nearby Tempio di Segesta.

Here, Dani and Danielle (who were Yielded) were eliminated from the race.
4. In the sixth leg of the race, teams had a brief stop-over in Rome. What landmark, depicted, featured a clue box?

Answer: Trevi Fountain

After completing a second leg of the race in Sicily (in Leg 5), teams took a train ride into the capital city of Rome to find a clue box in front of the Trevi Fountain and another at the Spanish Steps. After this, the remaining teams flew to the city of Athens, Greece for a series of Herculean tasks including a bungee jump into the Corinth Canal and, for some, a series of Olympic events during the Road Block.

When they arrived at the Pit Stop at the Fortress of Rion, BJ and Tyler narrowly avoided elimination as they stepped on the mat earlier than Lake and Michelle.
5. Jabreen Castle was the seventh Pit Stop of the race. In what Middle Eastern country did teams visit it?

Answer: Oman

Leg 7 took the final five teams out to the Middle East, specifically Oman. Landing in Muscat to stop at Riyam Park, teams later faced trouble navigating through the city roads and inevitable sandy deserts of Oman to complete Detour tasks involving either camels and Bedouins or ancient watchtowers. During a notable Road Block task, teams shifted positions as they searched through sand-covered pits used as ovens to cook meat to find one containing their dinner before driving to the Pit Stop at Jabreen Castle.

Here, BJ and Tyler (who led most of the leg) fell to last place after failing to complete the Road Block before the other four teams. Fran and Barry also celebrated their first win at this Pit Stop.
6. During the Road Block task in Leg 8, team members needed to find which of the following at Fremantle Prison in Western Australia?

Answer: Tunnels beneath the prison

Flying from Muscat, Oman to Western Australia in Leg 8, the final five teams visited Perth, Rottnest Island, and Fremantle. For the Road Block task, one member of each team needed to search the grounds of Fremantle Prison for an entryway into the cavernous waterways beneath the structure.

Here, they would need to canoe for their clue. After this task, teams raced in taxis to the Pit Stop at the South Breakwater of the Fremantle Sailing Club and Fran and Barry, who placed first in the previous leg, were eliminated.
7. Teams found the Swan Bells Tower in Leg 9 while stopping at what Australian city?

Answer: Perth

Beginning Leg 9 in Fremantle, teams needed to locate the Swan Bells Tower at the start of their journey before catching a flight northward to the city of Darwin on the northern coast of the continent. This site was noteworthy as it was here that Eric and Jeremy intentionally canceled the other teams' cabs to try and get ahead.

When their own cab never arrived, the teams blamed an innocent Joseph and Monica. Also during this leg, three teams arrived at the Pit Stop at Lake Bennett Wilderness Resort within seconds of one another. BJ and Tyler were spared from elimination once again.
8. The Road Block for Leg 10 took place at Prang Sam Yot in Lopburi, Thailand. Here, team members needed to feed which of these locally-revered creatures?

Answer: Monkeys

After teams completed two legs of the race in the land down under, they raced onward to Thailand and stopped off at the city of Lopburi to visit the Three-Spire Pagoda known as Prang Sam Yot. Here, teams had the opportunity to complete a Road Block task during which they had to create a sacrificial banquet for monkeys.

They activity proved humorous-- some teams had to deal with monkeys stealing food off their tables mid-task. BJ and Tyler did not complete this task because they opted to finish the Fast Forward, a task which involved eating a large bowl of grasshoppers and crickets (each), deep-fried of course.
9. At the Shibuya Scramble in Tokyo (in Leg 11), teams needed to find a statue of which of these?

Answer: Hachiko

For the penultimate leg of the race, the final three flew to Tokyo, the capital city of Japan, where they finished a series of tasks in the downtown core of the metropolis. Arriving at the bustling Shibuya Scramble crossing at night, teams found the statue of the dog Hachiko before completing a delivery Detour task in the city and checking in for a stay in a capsule hotel.

Heading northward to the Fujikyu Highland amusement park, the teams checked in at the final Pit Stop aboard a giant swan boat in Lake Yamanako.
10. In the twelfth and final leg of the race, teams hit the finish line at the Red Rocks Amphitheater. Was this also the starting line?

Answer: Yes

In an "Amazing Race" first, teams started and ended the race not only in the same city, but at the same landmark: the Red Rocks Amphitheater outside Denver, Colorado. After completing tasks in Japan, Alaska, and Colorado, teams ended up racing by taxi to Red Rocks for a final flag-based Road Block task and proceeded on foot to the finish line where BJ and Tyler narrowly beat out Eric and Jeremy for the one million dollar prize.

Although teams departed from Red Rocks in early November, they returned in early December to find the landmark covered in snow-- another finish line first.
