Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who said, '1742? No member of the Corps should ever report for active duty in a ginger toupee.'

Answer: Kryten

This is a quote from 'Psirens'. This is the first of many Space Corps Directives quoted throughout the series. Rimmer meant Space Corps Directive 1743, which stated that 'No registered vessel should attempt to transverse an asteroid belt without deflectors'.

The crew were about to go through an asteroid belt in Starbug after Red Dwarf was stolen from them. This was the first chance in 200 years they had to head them off, as Red Dwarf was so big, it had to go around the asteroid belt. On the other hand, Starbug is smaller and could make it through the belt without damage.
2. 'Of course. It's as plain as a Bulgarian pin-up', was said by whom?

Answer: Rimmer

This is a quote from 'Psirens'. The Psirens created a distress call from Lister's true love, Kochanski, and Lister immediately fell for it. When Rimmer stops him, Lister enquires if Rimmer thought it was Psirens creating an illusion. Rimmer responded by telling him it was 'as plain as a Bulgarian pin-up'.
3. Which character said, 'Sir, are you absolutely sure? It does mean changing the bulb.'

Answer: Kryten

This is from 'Legion'. As a UFO approached Starbug, Rimmer moaned until the crew went to blue alert. Upon going to blue alert, a box saying 'Alert' started flashing blue. When the crew realised it was a missile, Rimmer told Kryten to step up to red alert, to which Kryten responded with the classic line, 'Sir, are you absolutely sure? It does mean changing the bulb'.
4. Who said, 'I am Tarka Dall, an ambassador of the great Vindaloovian Empire.'

Answer: Lister

This is from 'Gunmen of the Apocalypse'. This episode actually won an Emmy. This particular quote came when Starbug met a Rogue Simulant ship. Rouge Simulants despise all humans, so to avoid being captured, Lister and Cat put one of Kryten's eyes on their chin, and had the camera has held upside down when broadcasting a message to the simulants. Lister told them he was 'Tarka Dall, an ambassador of the great Vindaloovian Empire'.

The lie failed when a simulant bored the ship, and clearly saw Lister the human, Rimmer, a hologram of a human, Cat, a humanoid and Kryten, a slave to humans.
5. 'No, the last thing they'll be expecting is for us to turn into ice skating mongooses and to dance the Bolero', was said by whom?

Answer: Rimmer

This is from 'Gunmen of the Apocalypse'. The simulants upgraded the whole of Starbug including equipping it with laser cannons. Their reasoning, was so Starbug would provide some sport when they we're hunting it. Cat told the crew that this was a game of 'cat and mouse' and the only way to win is to not be the mouse.

He finished his plan by telling the crew, 'It's the last thing they'll be expecting'. Rimmer managed to come up with a more elaborate plan that the enemy wouldn't be expecting either.
6. Which character said, 'I have got hair like yours. Just not on my head.'

Answer: Cat

This is from 'Emohawk, Polymorph II'. Rimmer was telling the crew that the only way they were going to survive and find Red Dwarf is with, 'A sense of discipline, a sense of purpose and wherever possible, a sensible haircut'. He then asked Lister and Cat, 'Would it harm you to have hair like mine?' to which the Cat responded with the absolutely classic line, 'I have got hair like yours. Just not on my head'.
7. Who said, 'OK, let's get out our sheet music and play the real waltz. There is no way I am going down to Moss Bros for anyone who is less attractive than my own armpit after 20 games of table-tennis.'

Answer: Lister

This is from 'Emohawk, Polymorph II'. The crew, after crash landing in a GELF ocean, needed a new oxygeneration unit. They had to go and trade with the Kinitawowi, one of the more friendly GELF tribes. One of their warmest greetings was 'Not skinning you alive the moment they set eyes on you'.

In return for an oxygeneration unit, the Kinitawowi wanted Lister to marry one of the GELF's. This was his response when told that is what he needed to do.
8. '196156? Any officer caught sniffing the saddle of the exercise bicycle in the women's gym will be discharged without trial' was said by whom?

Answer: Kryten

This is from 'Rimmerworld'. This is another of the classic Space Corps Directives. Rimmer was trying to quote a Space Corps Directive which would allow them to remove Lister from duty before he boarded an unstable rogue simulant ship. Unfortunately, instead of quoting the correct one, he quoted possibly the sickest Space Corps Directive to date.
9. Who said, 'I swear I'll attach jump-leads to his nipple-nuts and fry him like a Cajun catfish.'

Answer: Rimmer

This is from 'Out of Time'. Rimmer decided to hold a moral meeting to get everything that was annoying him off his chest. He proceeded to insult each of the crew members, with Lister being told, 'Do you know what it is about Lister that really makes me want to puke? That really makes me want to stab him in both eyes with an icepick? Everything, that's what, especially his god-awful chirpy gerbil-faced optimism'.

The Cat was called, 'an unbelievable git' and the above was said about Kryten.
10. Which character said, 'So, forgive me if I'm being thicker than the offspring of a village idiot and a TV weathergirl, but what exactly was the point of that little exercise?'.

Answer: Rimmer

This is from 'Out of Time'. The crew had found a time travel device and all had assumed Kryten meant it could take them back to Earth in any year. They went back to the year 1421, but they were still in the exact same position, so it was entirely useless.
