Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The episode opens with the Broflovski family gathered around a chanukkiah, singing a Chanukah song. As Gerald talks about his "perfect family" and how nothing will ever tear them apart, the doorbell rings and a Canadian married couple appears, claiming that Ike is their son. What name, which may remind you of a certain Catholic apostle, do Mr. and Mrs. Gintz use to refer to Ike?

Answer: Peter

As the Broflovski family, who are Jewish, prepare to celebrate the holiday of Chanukah, they are interrupted by a Canadian couple, Harry and Elise Gintz. They claim that years ago they put their child for adoption because they were not ready, and then proceed to hug Ike. As Kyle and Ike listen from the kitchen, Gerald and Sheila tell them that they would prefer they not come back, but the Canadians insist that they would like to take Ike back home with them because "changing your mind is a Canadian custom" and the Prime Minister issued a decree that demands all adopted Canadians return home.

Saint Peter, or Peter the Apostle, was a Catholic Saint who was allegedly crucified.
2. After an American court officially awards Ike's custody to the Gintzs, we see him saying goodbye to his adoptive family. At first, Ike hugs his brother Kyle and refuses to get in the car. What treat, which is a Swiss specialty, does Mr. Gintz offer that quickly convinces Ike to go with them?

Answer: Chocolate

In court, the judge says that he has no choice because Canadian law overrides any authority that the American court may have, and awards full custody to the Gintzs. At the Broflovski home, Sheila is uncontrollably crying while Gerald holds her and says goodbye to Ike. Ike is initially reluctant to go with his new family, but apparently, a bar of chocolate is enough to persuade a child to go with you!

Swiss chocolate is so unique because it is made with the milk of cows that graze pastures of different heights. It is the same reason why cheese in Switzerland is so good!
3. A week after Ike leaves, Kyle sees his friends (Stan, Kenny, and Cartman) looking into a toy store, wondering what they should get for Christmas. Which one of these toys is NOT featured in the store?

Answer: Rubik's Cube

As the Gintzs leave with Ike, Kyle asks their parents if there is any way to appeal to the Canadian Prime Minister, but Gerald replies that they don't have the time or money for that. Later, Kyle finds his friends looking at the toys they want for Christmas. Cartman says he wants the marshmallow factory, while Stan prefers the John Elway doll with Karate Chop action. Another toy that the store was showcasing was the 2001 Okana Gamesphere, which was likely based on the Xbox because both consoles use black and green colors. Kyle asks his friends for help to go to Canada and talk the Prime Minister out of his decree, but they all refuse to leave town during Christmas. To add insult to injury, Cartman tells Kyle that if it were any other time of the year, he still wouldn't help him!

The Rubik's Cube is a toy invented in 1974 by Hungarian artist and professor Erno Rubik (hence the name). The goal is to finish with a cube where all six faces have squares of the same color. The cube is commonly used in speed-solving competitions, and there are even Guinness World Records held by people who can quickly solve the puzzle.
4. Next, we see the town gathered around City Hall as the mayor lights up the Christmas tree. Concerned about the Broflovskis, the mayor asks for ideas on how to help the family, to which someone responds: "we get rid of all the Mexicans". Which character, who in the South Park universe has had a few sex-change operations and a successful presidential campaign, uttered this remark?

Answer: Mr. Garrison

The mayor encourages attendees to remember families suffering during the holiday season. She then mentions that the Broflovskis had their child torn away, and asks for the community's help. Mr. Garrison, who is known for his outrageous statements, suggests to "get rid of all the Mexicans. After a brief silence, the mayor reminds Mr. Garrison that he suggests that same idea every Christmas, and is always told "no". Chef then explains how the town could put some money together for the Broflovskis instead of buying Christmas presents, and to Cartman's and the rest of the children's dismay, the parents agree.

Mr. Garrison is a classic South Park character, with many hilarious stories to tell! He was a man for the first nine seasons of the show, and then had a sex change operation, transitioning to a woman. In season 12, he switched back to being a man. Garrison has had multiple relationships (with both men and women), managed to trick Richard Dawkins into having sex with him (which angered the real-life Dawkins), and even became President of the United States in season 20, as a parody of President Donald Trump.
5. Angry at the prospect of not getting any gifts, Cartman unleashes his anger on Kyle, who suggests to go to Canada and talk to the Prime Minister themselves. Kyle calls what he says is a very cheap airline, but someone representing another business answers the phone. As it turns out, the owner of City Airlines is also the owner of what other well-known business in the South Park universe?

Answer: Chinese restaurant

Of course, we're talking about City Wok! We see Tuong Lu Kim, a man with a thick Chinese accent, sad about the lack of business his Chinese restaurant is getting at Christmas time. Just as he was about to close, the phone rings and he answers with his characteristic "herro, City Wok, take your order prease?" Confused, Kyle replies that he was trying to reach City Airlines, which prompts Mr. Kim to instantly change his hat and turn around a sign behind the counter, and then say "herro, City Airlines, can I help you?" One of my favorite South Park characters!

Mr. Kim is apparently not good at negotiating either, as Kyle manages to bring the original price of a flight to Canada from $6,500 to $62. Mr. Kim then instructs Kyle to meet him at the Park County Airfield in a yellow Cessna.
6. Upon reaching their destination, Kyle and his friends look around before a doctor approaches them, inquiring about their plane. What question does the doctor ask the children? (hint: think Operation Barbarossa)

Answer: Is this an invasion?

We see Mr. Kim dressed as a pilot, welcoming the boys to "City Airline". Cartman and Kenny initially refuse to fly, but end up getting on the plane. Captain Kim says "if your seats had seat belts, this is the time you would fasten them" and they take off. After that, we see all four passengers and the pilot asleep while the plane is in the air! Mr. Kim tells the passengers that they made the wrong choice when picking an airline, and then jumps out with a parachute. Kyle manages to crash-land the plane, and upon looking at their surroundings, they realize they are not in the U.S. anymore.

Upon learning that this was not in fact an invasion, Canadians come out of hiding and rejoice.
7. In what apparently "South Park" thinks Canadians do whenever they have visitors, they all begin singing a song together. They are suddenly interrupted by someone who is angry about the damage the plane caused, and everyone shouts and runs away. Which character, whose name may remind you of a son of Clint Eastwood or a former governor of Wisconsin, appears?

Answer: Scott

Scott, who first appeared in season 2's "Terrance and Phillip in Not Without My Anus", is known to be hated by everyone in Canada. Scott angrily exclaims that Americans "think they are the police of the world" and that they are not welcome. After Scott leaves, the children are told that they must go to Ottawa to reach the new Prime Minister, and are told to follow the only road in Canada (of course, through a song).

Scott Eastwood was born in California in 1986 and is the son of famed American actor and director Clint Eastwood. Scott has appeared in movies like "Gran Torino" and "Invictus", both of which were directed by his father. Scott Walker is an American politician who served as Governor of Wisconsin for two consecutive terms, from 2011 to 2019.
8. In a scene reminiscent of the yellow-brick road of "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz", the boys continue their adventure by walking down the only road in Canada and meeting new people along the way, who are interested in joining them in their visit to the Prime Minister. Which of these characters does NOT end up joining the children?

Answer: Terrance from Terrance and Phillip

The boys are intercepted by a Canadian mounted policeman, who is riding a sheep instead of a horse because of funding cuts. He asks the boys if he can join them, so he can negotiate the laws that forced him to ride sheep with the Prime Minister. Later, they enter "French Canada", where they are received with a song detailing how French Canada is superior to the rest of Canada. A mime then demands to be allowed to join them to allow the boys to pass through, as the new Prime Minister also made it illegal for them to drink wine. Annoyed, Kyle agrees and they continue on their adventure until they reach Newfoundland. Scott then attempts to stop the Americans from continuing on their adventure, but Steve the Newfoundlander comes to the rescue and makes Scott leave. Steve also is interested in visiting the Prime Minister, because he also made sodomy illegal (which apparently is problematic for Steve).

Steve then indicates that the boys were heading the wrong way all along, but takes everyone on his boat to quickly get to Ottawa.
9. The now large group arrives at the Parliament Building, with hopes of meeting with the Prime Minister. A Canadian guard first laughs at them, but upon seeing the children cry, he reconsiders and allows the boys to pass. What does the Prime Minister do after listening to Kyle's speech?

Answer: Kills Kenny

The Prime Minister of Canada, who turns out to be a big head floating around fire, exclaims that his laws will remain in effect forever and proceeds to kill Kenny (a running gag of this show) by burning him to death. Meanwhile, Scott enters the building with the Gintzs and Ike, asking the Prime Minister to send the Americans back home.
10. As Kyle accuses the Prime Minister of making decisions based on hatred, Stan notices an odd-looking booth and walks toward it, and then pulls a purple curtain. When he does this, it is revealed that the Prime Minister is actually a South Park character we have seen before, mainly as Satan's boyfriend in the "South Park" movie. Which of these people, who was President of Iraq between 1979 and 2003, is depicted as the man who was posing as the Canadian Prime Minister?

Answer: Saddam Hussein

The boys are surprised to discover that this whole time, the orders from the so-called Canadian Prime Minister were coming from Saddam Hussein, who had already appeared in season 7. Angered, the Canadian crowd attacks Hussein, and decide that every law that was passed by the Prime Minister is void. The Gintzs decide to allow "Peter"/Ike to go back home, which is an emotional moment until Cartman realizes that it is Christmas and he is still in Canada. Just when he was about to beat Kyle up (as he promised at the beginning of the episode if they were not back home by Christmas), Kyle softly slaps him in the face, which provokes Cartman to cry uncontrollably and call for his mom! Canadians offer the boys to spend Christmas with them, Canadian style, which means singing a song during a parade. The episode ends with Cartman, Stan, and Kyle being disappointed because they were not able to have a Christmas adventure, but at least they got Ike back!

Saddam Hussein was President of Iraq from 1979 to 2003, after leading a coup in 1968. Hussein was criticized for being a violent dictator, and was forced out of power shortly after the U.S. invasion of Iraq. Hussein was executed in 2006. In the "South Park" series, Hussein's character has been used as Satan's manipulative partner, and has repeatedly attempted to attack Canada.
