Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In which city did teams begin Leg 11?

Answer: Hong Kong

In Leg 11, teams opened their clues over the course of several hours at the tenth Pit Stop in Hong Kong's Statue Square. This informed teams that they would be heading to their penultimate country of the race, South Korea. Teams took two different flights to the city of Incheon outside Seoul and were told to drive themselves to the Demilitarized Zone at the North Korean border where they would need to locate Seung-il Bridge and their next clue box. here, they would need to take a whitewater raft trip down the Hantan River to get their next clue.
2. For the Road block task in South Korea in Leg 11, teams needed to match which of these items?

Answer: Headbands

After taking their rafting trip, teams reached a set of Humvees and took a ride to the American army base Camp Casey near the city of Dongducheon, South Korea. Here is where teams located their Road Block for this leg. In this task, one member of each team needed to collect a headband from a nearby stadium seat, then search a training area for the one soldier bearing the same headband amongst over two hundred practicing taekwondo.

When they picked the right one, team members would watch them break a board containing their next clue. If they picked the wrong one, their headband would be taken and they'd need to get a new one. Before this task, Nick and Vicki completed their Speed Bump which involved cleaning a dirty tank on the Camp Casey base before they could continue and claim their Road Block clue.
3. In the 'Full Throttle' Detour task, teams needed to participate in which sport?

Answer: Speed skating

After the Road Block task, teams needed to take a ride on the subway from Dongducheon to Seoul's World Cup Stadium where their Detour clue could be found in the center of the soccer field. The first option was Full Throttle in which teams needed to travel to Mok-dong Ice Rink, don speed skating gear, and perform twenty-four laps of the skating rink in speed skates before they could obtain their next clue. All the participating teams decided to complete this relay task.
4. In the 'Full Bottle' Detour option in Leg 11 (South Korea) teams needed to drink what natural tonic?

Answer: Ginseng

In the 'Full Bottle' Detour option in Leg 11, teams needed to travel to Namdaemun Market and don delivery uniforms to take six bottles of ginseng tonic to a holistic medicine store. If they delivered all six without breaking them, they would be able to receive their next clue after drinking a smaller bottle of ginseng tonic. None of the teams finished 'Full Bottle'.
After the Detour, teams needed to find a clue box at an airplane statue in Yeouido Hangang Park to get their next clue.
5. Which team was eliminated in South Korea in Leg 11?

Answer: Nick and Vicki

In the end of the leg, teams were directed to travel to Wongudan, also known as the Temple of Heaven, in Seoul, South Korea. Here, teams checked into their final Pit Stop of the race. While Brook and Claire arrived first, their decision to take a taxi to the Detour was met with a penalty of thirty minutes.

As a result, Jill and Thomas hit the mat in first place and won a trip for two to Iguazu Falls, Argentina courtesy of Travelocity. Nick and Vicki, who fell too far behind after their penalty in the previous leg, finished their Speed Bump before being told to head directly to the Pit Stop where they became the final eliminated team.
6. To which American city did teams travel in the final leg of the race?

Answer: Los Angeles

In the final leg of the race, teams departed from the Temple of Heaven in Seoul, South Korea in the middle of the night. For this leg, they were informed that they would need to fly directly to the city of Los Angeles, California more than six thousand miles away across the Pacific. All three remaining teams arrived on the same flight and needed to make their way by taxi to the Port of Long Beach to find their clue box awaiting their arrival.
7. For their first task in their final destination city (in Leg 12) teams needed to do which of these?

Answer: Tandem bungee swing

Upon arriving at the Port of Long Beach, teams found a clue box at Pier J 266. Here, both members needed to ascend a large crane and then harness in to perform a frightening tandem bungee swing one hundred fifty feet over the water to a platform below. Once both members completed the swing they'd return to land and take a helicopter ride over the city of Los Angeles to their next destination: the Rose Bowl.

Here they'd find their next clue.
8. Was there a Road Block task in Leg 12 (the final leg of the race)?

Answer: Yes

Upon arriving at the Rose Bowl, teams opened a clue box containing their final Road Block task of the race. For this one, one member of each team needed to join in the tradition of decorating a traditional Rose Bowl float. Once teams glued a section of flowers onto the float, placed roses in vials into the sides of another section, and covered part of the float with straw, they would receive their next clue from the previous year's Rose Queen. Nat, Brook, and Thomas finished this final Road Block.
9. In the end of Leg 12, teams needed to complete a memory challenge relating to which aspect of the race?

Answer: Pit Stop greeters

After the Road Block, teams solved a riddle to locate their next destination involving 'Sancho Panza's Master', 'The Symphony in the Glen', and 'Marilyn Monroe's Year of the Itch'. This led them specifically to Quixote Studios', Stage 7 in Griffith Park where they found their final major task of the race, a memory task hosted by Bob Eubanks.

When they arrived, teams needed to go to a game station in front of a large screen and pick out the proper Pit Stop greeters from the previous eleven legs of the race, in order, to receive their next clue from Mr. Eubanks.

This was made more difficult by the fact that the screen also shuffled through twenty-seven other greeters from previous seasons.
10. Which team won "The Amazing Race 17"?

Answer: Nat and Kat

After their final memory challenge, teams were told to take a taxi to the race's finish line, Greystone Mansion in Beverly Hills, California. Here, after thirty-two thousand miles, twelve legs in ten countries, and several weeks, it was Nat and Kat who crossed the finish line in first place becoming the first all-female team to win the U.S. version of "The Amazing Race" (and after seventeen seasons)! They won the one million dollars while Brook and Claire took second place and Jill and Thomas arrived in third.
