Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In Leg 7, teams continued through Malawi. What did Amani and Marcus need to complete during the Speed Bump task?

Answer: A slide puzzle

In the beginning of Leg 7, teams advanced forth from the sixth Pit Stop at Kumbali Village in the early morning hours and were told to return to the city of Lilongwe by taxi. Once there, they needed to secure seats on a bus ride to Salima, a town located closer to Lake Malawi. All remaining teams ended up hitching a ride on the same bus. Upon arriving in Salima, Amani and Marcus, who arrived at the previous Pit Stop in last place, were forced to complete a Speed Bump task in which they needed to properly solve a slide puzzle of Malawi's national flag. Once they did this, they could continue on with this leg of the race.
2. In the Road Block task in Malawi (in Leg 7) teams needed to ride which mode of transportation?

Answer: Bicycle

Arriving in Salima, teams found a clue waiting at their bus stop. This was the Road Block for this leg of the race. For this task, the participating team member needed to pedal a kabaza, a local bike taxi, along with a passenger (carrying fish) to a predetermined destination. Once there, teams needed to receive the fare and pedal back to where they started to hand off their money to the bike dispatcher and complete the task. Andy, Cathi, Cindy, Laurence, Sandy, Jennifer, and Marcus completed this Road Block and received their next clue.
3. All teams in Leg 7 (in Malawi) completed the 'Dugout' Detour option involving dugout canoes.

Answer: False

In this Detour, teams needed to take a taxi to Lake Malawi and choose one of two physically-demanding tasks: 'Dugout' or 'Lugout'. In 'Dugout', teams hopped into a dugout canoe and needed to paddle out onto the waters of Lake Malawi, pass through two buoys, and make a trip back.

In 'Lugout', teams needed to carry items and people from a nearby ferry back to land without dropping them into the water. This included two boxes of cabbage, two stacks of sugar cane, two bundles of brooms, a chair, a fan, and eight passengers. Amani and Marcus were the only team to complete the latter task while the others finished 'Dugout'. Ernie and Cindy opted to use their Express Pass to bypass the entire Detour.
4. Which team attempted to utilize the Double U-Turn in Malawi in Leg 7?

Answer: Laurence and Zac

After the Detour task, teams needed to proceed on foot to the nearby Chigumukile Village (located on the shoreline) where they had to find the Jamaica Shop. Here, teams located the Double U-Turn for the first time in the race. Only Laurence and Zac opted to use this race mechanic though their decision to force Amani and Marcus to complete the 'Dugout' Detour (in addition to their earlier choice of 'Lugout') was null-- they had arrived at the U-Turn before Laurence and Zac and thus were not affected.
5. Which team was eliminated from the race in Leg 7 (in Malawi)?

Answer: Justin and Jennifer

After stopping off at the Double U-Turn, teams made their way on foot to the seventh Pit Stop of the race, the beach of the Sunbird Livingstonia Resort on Senga Bay. Here, in a tight finish, Andy and Tommy narrowly passed Ernie and Cindy within feet of the mat to claim their fifth victory in seven legs! For their win, they won themselves $15,000 to share from Discover Card.

After struggling to complete the Road Block and trailing the rest of the leg, brother-sister team Justin and Jennifer could not catch up.

They became the fifth team eliminated from the race leaving only six remaining.
6. In Leg 8, teams traveled over five thousand miles from Malawi to what European nation?

Answer: Denmark

Beginning the eighth leg of the race, teams were told to fly (for the first time in "Amazing Race" history) to the city of Copenhagen, Denmark. Teams were given tickets to fly to Copenhagen via Nairobi, Kenya and the choice to fly through any other better connections as per their choosing.

Some teams flew through London while others traveled via Amsterdam. Once they landed in Copenhagen, teams needed to find their Ford Focus vehicles and drive through the city to Vor Frelsers Kirke bell tower.

When the tower opened, teams had to discover that their next clue would be in the form of two flags, one at the top of the tower and the other resting on a nearby building. When combined, their next destination would become known.
7. Which team member completed the traditional dancing Road Block task in Leg 8?

Answer: Zac

Locating their flags atop Vor Frelsers Kirke, teams needed to drive themselves from Copenhagen to Hillerød to located Frederiksborg Slot, a castle at which they could find their next clue. Here, teams were handed their Road Block task asking the participating team member to perform a Renaissance-era dance. Dressing in period clothing, teams needed to learn the intricate dance steps to three different dances and perform them for a countess who would judge them and hand off the next clue. Ernie, Cathi, Zac, Amani, Sandy, and Andy finished this one and received a clue instructing them to drive to Frilandmuseet in Kongens Lyngby.
8. Which of these did teams work with in the 'All Hopped Up' Detour task in Leg 8?

Answer: Rabbits

Finding their next clue in a postbox at Frilandmuseet, teams opened up the Detour task, a choice between 'All Hopped Up' and 'All Churned Out'. In 'All Hopped Up', teams needed to assemble a miniature steeple course for a rabbit and both members needed to join in for Kaninhop, a sport in which a rabbit jumps the hurdles and races to the end.

In 'All Churned Out', teams needed to work with cream and butter churns to create six sticks of butter as per old Danish churning techniques. Ernie and Cindy, Bill and Cathi, Andy and Tommy, and Laurence and Zac, and Jeremy and Sandy all completed the butter task while Amani and Marcus worked with bunnies.
9. Which team was not involved with the Double U-Turn in Leg 8?

Answer: Andy and Tommy

After the Detour task was completed, teams needed to proceed on foot to Karlstrup Windmill located on the grounds at Frilandmuseet. Here, teams found a Double U-Turn. Ernie and Cindi, fighting to keep a lead, ended up using the U-Turn to force Bill and Cathi to complete the 'All Hopped Up' Detour task.

It did not affect their placement upon arriving on the mat. Bill and Cathi also used the U-Turn to preserve their own stake in the race. This enabled them to force Laurence and Zac to complete the 'All Hopped Up' Detour task.
10. Which team was eliminated from the race in Leg 8?

Answer: Laurence and Zac

After reaching Karlstrup Windmill, teams needed to drive seven miles back into Copenhagen to the eighth Pit Stop of the race, Havet Ship, a sixty-year old cargo boat and hotel docked in the city. Ernie and Cindy, who used the Double U-Turn to fend off the closest team, arrived at the mat in first place winning a leg for the second time (the first being the first leg in Taiwan). For their victory they were rewarded with a trip for two to Fiji courtesy of Travelocity.

In the end, it wasn't necessarily the Double U-Turn to set Laurence and Zac back, but poor navigation and bad traffic.

Their late arrival sealed their fate, making them the sixth team eliminated from the race.
