Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Before heading off to a new country in Leg 11, teams needed to find a mural of which famous cartoon character?

Answer: Tintin

Beginning Leg 11 at the tenth Pit Stop, the Atomium in Brussels, Belgium, teams needed to open a package containing two outfits, specifically suits. These would dress them up as two characters from "The Adventures of Tintin", a Belgian comic book character. Teams needed to determine which characters they were-- "Thomson and Thompson", "Dupond and Dupont", or "Johnson and Johnston"-- and find Tintin at a mural of the character near the Stockel Metro Station. If they could name who he is and who they were from the comic strip, they would receive the clue taking them out of Belgium.
2. To which Central American country did teams fly in Leg 11?

Answer: Panama

After finding Tintin, teams were told to take the train to Amsterdam, The Netherlands and find a flight to Panama City, Panama. When teams touched down in the evening, they needed to rush to Chagres National Park and a number of boats at Puerto El Corotu. Once they arrived at a village known as Parara Puru, they needed to sign up for one of three departure times leaving the next morning...to get a tattoo. Teams had their tattoos painted on by locals; these led them to their next destination: the San Francisco Bay Towers.
3. Arriving at the Leg 11 Road Block, which team member did not need to brave a fear of heights?

Answer: Marcus

Arriving at the San Francisco Bay Towers, four team members were required to complete the Road Block as team members needed to have completed six Road Blocks throughout the race to reach the final leg. Andy, Sandy, Cindy, and Amani were, thus, required to take on a vertigo-inducing task in which they had to ascend to the roof of the building and complete a twenty meter tightrope (there and back) over thirty-five stories above the ground. Once this task was completed, teams needed to take a taxi to a man under a rooster, the Ferdinand de Lesseps statue in Casco Viejo, to find their next clue.
4. All teams completed the 'Sole' Detour task in Leg 11, creating sandals for locals.

Answer: False

Finding their Detour task at a street vendor in Plaza de Francia, teams needed to choose either 'Filet' or 'Sole'. 'Filet', completed by Marcus and Amani, required that they travel to El Mercado de Mariscos to deliver different types of fish to different stalls in the largest fish market in Panama City.

The other three teams completed 'Sole' instead, heading to Salsipuedes Market to cut leather and create a pair of sandals for customers of a local sandal shop. When teams completed the Detour, they needed to find their next clue hidden at Cathedral Square.
5. Which team was eliminated from the race in Leg 11?

Answer: Andy and Tommy

At Cathedral Square, teams needed to find their clue hidden in the clothing of Panamanian dancers. One of the dancers had the word 'Panama Viejo' written in the design of her dress while all of the women wore jewelery bearing an image of the landmark.

This proved difficult for most teams, however, who were thrown off by the Balboas (Panamanian currency) on their outfits; Balboa is also a district of Panama containing the canal. Arriving at Panama Viejo, teams found the final Pit Stop of the race and Jeremy and Sandy won their first leg of the race, taking home a trip for two to Turks and Caicos courtesy of Travelocity. Andy and Tommy, who failed to find their Pit Stop destination quickly enough, became the final team eliminated from the race despite having won six earlier legs.
6. What was the final destination city of "The Amazing Race 19"?

Answer: Atlanta

In the beginning of Leg 12, teams were told to fly back to the United States to their final destination city, Atlanta, Georgia. Two of the teams were initially worried about this decision as Marcus and Amani were from Georgia. All three teams landed on the same flight the following day and made their way by taxi to FlightSafety International to find their next Route Info clue inside.

This was the first time that "The Amazing Race" ended in this major international travel hub.
7. At FlightSafety International in Leg 12, teams needed to go to which of the following?

Answer: Land a plane in a flight simulator

Arriving at FlightSafety International, teams needed to choose a flight simulation unit and learn how to properly land a plane from a flight instructor. One team member would play the pilot while the other would need to play co-pilot. Both needed to use proper flight lingo and, most importantly, land on the runway.

When they successfully landed their aircraft, they would be directed to their next destination, 'The Dump' in Downtown Atlanta.
8. During the race's final Road Block (involving a typewriter), which key did team members discover was missing?

Answer: 1

Upon locating 'The Dump', a room in the Margaret Mitchell House in Atlanta in which "Gone With the Wind" was written, teams located the Road Block for this leg of the race. For this task, Ernie, Sandy, and Marcus needed to go head-to-head with a typewriter in Mitchell's room.

The task seemed simple: type out the next Route Info clue without making a mistake. Teams also needed to discover that their typewriter would not include a '1' key; instead they would need to use the lower-case 'L' key. When this was done, teams needed to use the numbers '44-715-74' to locate their next clue box.
9. For their final task of the race, teams needed to plot their race course on a large map of the world. Which country was not included?

Answer: Turkey

Using '44-715-74', teams needed to find Turner Field. 44 was Hank Aaron's number, 715 was the amount of Home Runs hit by Aaron, and 1974 was the year of his record-breaking Home Run. Upon their arrival, teams needed to map out their entire race course on a billboard-sized map using rope and clamps. If teams could map out a course from Taiwan to Indonesia to Thailand to Malawi to Denmark to Belgium to Panama, and onward home to the United States, they would receive their final clue for the race.

The player who did not complete the final Road Block needed to be harnessed onto the billboard map while their partner could help from behind.
10. Which team became the official winners of "The Amazing Race 19"?

Answer: Ernie and Cindy

After their final task, teams needed to take a taxi to the Finish Line for this race: The Swan House in Atlanta, Georgia. After a final rush, it was Ernie and Cindy who made it to their final destination in first place, winning the million dollar prize and the title of race winners.

The two of them became the first race winners ever to come in first and have been in possession of the Express Pass; in previous races, Express Pass winners made it to the final three, but never won. Jeremy and Sandy were the second team to arrive, having been mislead en route to 'The Dump', and Amani and Marcus arrived in third after finding it difficult to land their plane during the flight simulator.
