Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In Leg 9, teams flew to Amsterdam, The Netherlands. Which team completed the Fast Forward task?

Answer: Natalie and Nadiya

Finally leaving rainy Russia (specifically Moscow) in Leg 9, teams headed out from a stage in Sokolniki Park and took a taxi to the airport where they were told to make their way to the city of Amsterdam; their only clue was to head to the Central Train Station in the capital city depicted in a flag they received with their route info. Upon arriving at this clue box, teams found the Fast Forward along with their actual clue. For this, teams needed to proceed to the nearby Van Gogh Cafe and ride a tour bus called The Floating Dutchman which would take them on a tour through the canals. On the seven minute ride, the participating team needed to eat ten pieces of soused herring, five each, before the ride ended to receive the Fast Forward clue. Natalie and Nadiya succeeded, arriving before all other teams due to a clever flightplan through Italy.
2. For the Detour task in Leg 9 (in Amsterdam), teams either had to become organ grinders or they had to reenact which of these?

Answer: A painting

Arriving at the clue box outside Amsterdam's central rail station, teams found a task telling them to head to the canals to find a marked boat which would take them to a floating stall near the Magere Brug known as Poffertjesboot. Once they received their order, they would collect the Detour task, a choice between 'Back in Time' and 'Organ to Grind'.

In 'Back in Time', teams needed to find a local museum and, using costumes and a cast of people, reenact Rembrandt's famous painting, "The Night Watch". Abbie and Ryan and Brent and Josh completed this one. Trey and Lexi and Jaymes and James completed 'Organ to Grind' in which they needed to locate one of several marked street organs in Amsterdam and, with one member playing, the other would need to collect thirty Euros in tips.
3. Which team's face did not appear on the U-Turn in Amsterdam (in Leg 9)?

Answer: Josh and Brent

After the Detour, teams were told to take caution as a Double U-Turn would be ahead at the Museum Geelvinck in Amsterdam. Jaymes and James were the first to arrive here and used their powers to U-Turn Abbie and Ryan. Trey and Lexi, the next to arrive, made a tactical move by U-Turning Jaymes and James, who had already passed, and preventing Abbie and Ryan from turning the Beekman Boys around.

This was successful; Abbie and Ryan had to return to the course to complete the 'Organ to Grind' Detour task (in the rain).

After this, teams needed to take a bus to Ransdorp.
4. What was unique about the ditch-jumping Road Block in Leg 9?

Answer: It was a Switchback

Heading by bus (or taxi) to the town of Ransdorp, The Netherlands after encountering the Double U-Turn, teams found their Road Block task waiting at a rural field. This was a Switchback recalling an event from the second leg of "The Amazing Race 12". For this task, one member of each team had to vault across a wide ditch without falling in to receive a pair of wooden clogs on the opposite side. If they fell in they'd need to try again. James, Trey, Josh, and Ryan completed the task and, in many cases, didn't need to try more than once.
5. Which team was eliminated at the end of Leg 9 in Amsterdam?

Answer: Abbie and Ryan

After the Road block, teams needed to proceed on foot to their next Pit Stop, the former house of Rembrandt's mistress in Ransdorp. Here, Natalie and Nadiya checked in in first place because of their Fast Forward win. This was their second victory of the race (their first being in Leg 2 in Indonesia).

This time they won $5,000 each. After a grueling leg (heck, a grueling few legs) Abbie and Ryan were unable to catch up with the other teams due to their poor flight through Frankfurt, the U-Turn, and a lack of motivation; they arrived in last place and were eliminated, losing their shot at two million dollars.
6. In Leg 10, teams departed from The Netherlands and completed a leg of the race in what country?

Answer: Spain

Heading out from the house of Rembrandt's mistress in Ransdorp, teams were told to head back to Amsterdam to catch the next possible flight to Barcelona, Spain. once there, teams needed to head to the Port of Spain to catch the next overnight ferry taking them to the island of Mallorca. Because flights to Barcelona were plentiful and ferries to Mallorca only traveled in the late evening, the teams were finally equalized after several legs. Upon their arrival in Palma, teams needed to take a taxi to the Palma Cathedral where they would receive their clue from one in a dancing troupe of demons.
7. In Leg 10, team members needed to hit twenty balls while participating in what sport for the Road Block task?

Answer: Tennis

Reaching Palma Cathedral, teams were told to hop into standard-driven cars (their first self-drive task of the race) and make their way through Mallorca to Manacor, specifically to the Centro de Alto Rendimiento. At this tennis complex teams would find the Road Block task which specified that one member of each team had to stand at one end of a clay court and hit twenty balls over the net (and in-bounds) shot across by an automatic machine to receive their next clue. If they failed to do so they would need to wait for a reload to try again. James, Trey, Josh, and Nadiya all dealt with what was served to them before heading out.
8. Which Detour task in Leg 10 was only completed by one team?

Answer: 'Bull It'

Following the Road Block, teams needed to drive themselves to the town of Campanet to find the Coves de Campanet, a cave system found within the town. Here they would need to follow the music of two Spanish guitarists to locate their next clue. This would be the Detour task. 'Bull It', completed solely by Trey and Lexi, involved heading to the Plaza de Toros la Monumental in Muro where they had to dress up in a bull costume and complete a two minute trial of passing though eight matador capes and striking a ninth target to complete their task. If they screwed up the order of matadors at any time or hit any of them (including the ninth target) directly they would need to try again.
9. During the windmill-themed Detour task in Leg 10, teams needed to repair how many blades on a windmill?

Answer: Two

If teams didn't want to complete 'Bull It' (which Jaymes and James, Brent and Josh, and Natalie and Nadiya didn't), they could instead drive to Sa Pobla to complete 'Spin It'. For this task, the teams needed to don toolbelts and head into a field to fix traditional Mallorcan windmills. To do this, teams needed to reattach two different blades to the structure using nuts and bolts.

When these were properly secured, a worker would send them to men dressed as Don Quixote and Sancho Panza who would hand off the next clue sending them to the Pit Stop.
10. Which team was last to arrive at the Pit Stop in Leg 10?

Answer: Natalie and Nadiya

After the Detour, teams needed to head to the tenth Pit Stop of the race atop the Castell de Bellver in Palma. Here, greeted by Phil and a greeter with no head, Trey and Lexi took their third first place win, this time receiving a trip for two to the Spanish Riviera courtesy of Travelocity.

In the end, Josh and Brent maintained a steady course to take third place, their highest position yet, while Natalie and Nadiya were left in the dust at the Detour; their fourth place finish can be attributed to poor handling of their stick-shift vehicles and getting lost on the island. Luckily they were spared by the final non-elimination Pit Stop.
