Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the start of this race, teams departed from which U.S. state?

Answer: California

In the first leg of this season, eleven teams were given the good news at the starting line on the Colorado Street Bridge in Pasadena, California. This time around, if any team could come in first on both the first and last leg of the race, they would win two million dollars. Soon, teams were already on their way on a race through nine different countries. To get their first clues, the teams had to reach their bags at the bottom of the bridge.

This was complicated by a ten storey rappel down the side completed by all eleven teams.

They then needed to drive their Ford Escapes to LAX and catch one of two flights to China.
2. What Chinese city was the teams' first international destination?

Answer: Shanghai

Leaving the United States, the teams needed to take one of two flights to the city of Shanghai, the first carrying seven teams on China Air and the second carrying four teams on EVA Air. The flights would land the next morning more than an hour apart.
Upon arriving in Shanghai, teams needed to take a taxi to the Yaunshen Sports Center Stadium to find their first clue box waiting outside.
3. The first Road Block task in Leg 1 involved which of the following activities?

Answer: Table tennis

Arriving at the Yaunshen Sports Center Stadium, teams found their first Road Block of the race. When asked 'who's ready to get paddled?', they soon discovered that the selected team member would play table tennis against a Chinese Junior Champion. If they could get one point against this child player (even if they were using household items as paddles and moving from table to table), they would receive their next clue. Abbie, James, James, Natalie, Caitlin, Daniel, Kelley, Trey, Rob, Gary, and Josh completed this task.
4. The second Road Block task found in China in Leg 1 involved eating which of these odd delicacies?

Answer: Frog fallopian tubes

After the first Road Block task, teams needed to take a taxi to the Cui Ping Jiu Jia Restaurant in Shanghai to find a second Road Block task. As is customary in this type of circumstance, the team member who did not complete the first Road Block had to complete the second one.

This task asked: 'Who wants to go tubing?' For the task, the one team member had to eat frog fallopian tubes, also known as hasma, out of two papayas. This needed to be done without picking up the plate or papayas from the table; if they did not comply, they would have to eat another two.

This, of course, happened; Rob of Rob and Kelley picked his up and had to try again.
5. Which team was eliminated at the end of Leg 1 in China?

Answer: Rob and Sheila

After the second Road Block, teams proceeded to The Bund to find a woman with an abacus to receive their next clue leading them to the nearby Pit Stop, The Bund Signal Tower/Observatory. Teams raced there on foot by it was Abbie and Ryan who arrived in first, ironically because Amy and Daniel told them where to find the final clue.

As such, Abbie and Ryan became eligible to win the two million dollar prize. In the end, in a tight race between the four final teams, Rob and Sheila were passed by the Chippendales, Jaymes and James, and became the first team eliminated from the race.
6. In Leg 2, teams completed tasks in which Indonesian city?

Answer: Surabaya

In the beginning of Leg 1, teams needed to depart from Shanghai early in the morning and fly from Pudong International Airport to the city of SUrabaya, Indonesia. While nine of the ten teams connected through Jakarta, Rob and Kelley took a four hour layover in Hong Kong. Eventually, all ten teams made it to their destination across the South China Sea: the Alun Alun Stadium in Surabaya, where they had to take a numbered whip designating when they would leave (in order) at 8:00am.
7. In Leg 2 in Indonesia, teams needed to race against which of these animals?

Answer: Bulls

The next morning at 8:00am, the ten remaining teams needed to race against the bulls. To do this, they would have to hop onto motorcycles (in the order they arrived) and face off against a man on two harnessed bulls. Both team members needed to cross the finish line at the end to receive their next clue directing them to a new route marker featuring red and yellow balloons at the Genteng Kali Bridge.

They were allowed to take a taxi to this spot.
8. How many balloon sculptures did team members complete during the Road Block task in Leg 2 (in Indonesia)?

Answer: Eight

Arriving at the Genteng Kali Bridge, teams were presented with their Road Block task. For this one, teams had to choose a member who likes to party. This task involved hopping onto a portable kids amusement machine which could be pedaled to operate.

While the participant kept the kids entertained they would also need to create eight balloon sculptures-- four animals and four hats (one each for each kid). James, Amy, Abbie, Jaymes, Lexi, Nadiya, Josh, Caitlyn, Will, and Rob completed this task.
9. Only one team completed the 'Fish By the Barrel' Detour task in Leg 2 (in Indonesia).

Answer: True

After the Road Block, teams needed to go to the Wijaya Motor Shop in Surabaya by taxi. When they arrived they were handed their Detour clue. This was a choice between 'Ice by the Pound' and 'Fish by the Barrel'. 'Fish in the Barrel' was only completed by one team, Natalie and Nadiya, who needed to head to a nearby market and open two barrels of fish to organize them at a marked stall.

The other nine teams needed to bring large 65lb blocks of ice from an ice maker onto a truck, then transport them (using a cart) to a marked spot in the same market.
10. Which team was eliminated in Leg 2 in Indonesia?

Answer: Amy and Daniel

After the Detour task, teams were told to proceed on foot to the Pit Stop at the Pasar Pabean Market. After weaving through the confusing aisles at this location, it was Natalie and Nadiya, who took the 'Fish in a Barrel' Detour alone, who ended up placing first and winning the powerful Express Pass.

In the end of the leg, Amy and Daniel (who were the runners-up in Leg 1) were eliminated simply due to a bad cab ride, putting them in the back of the pack before the Detour.
