Commencing Leg 5, teams were informed that their next clue would be awaiting them at the Jatrabari Boro Bazaar, the largest bazaar in all of Dhaka. To get there, teams needed to find a marked taxi stand, then catch a ride to their destination. At the bazaar, teams needed to find a man selling eggplants and he would hand them their next clue, another bit of Route Info sending them out of the city proper to the side of Ferry Ghat Road in Demra, Bangladesh.

Arriving at Ferry Ghat Road under the Demra Bridge, teams found a Road Block task suggesting 'It's not heavy, it's a Road Block'. The selected team member needed to head into a nearby clearing with some wooden logs and, using rope and tools provided, construct a tripod scale which they would need to use to balance four large rocks with an equal weight of wood.

When they could even out their own scale they could continue on. James, Nadiya, Abbie, Kelley, Jaymes, Trey, and Brent finished this task.

Immediately after completing the Road Block task, teams were handed their Detour clue for this leg of the race. The first option was 'Straw Dogs'. This task required participating teams to head to a local jute factory known as the Latif Bawani Jute Mills.

Here, they needed to be led to a work station where they had to loosen strands of coarse jute on a large bed of nails. Once they had twenty coils they could proceed to the next machine with several bundles and wait for their clue to be manufactured on the side of a jute bag. Only Abbie and Ryan finished this task.

Answer: Bamboo

Those not finishing 'Straw Dogs' had to complete 'Bamboo Jungle'. In this task, teams headed to the Tarabo Bazaar to locate a wall of marked bamboo poles of varying lengths. They then had to carry these poles through a narrow yard of bamboo to their marked carts. Once they'd properly tied all of their poles they needed to drive the cart to a specific location down the road to collect their next clue. Everyone except Abbie and Ryan completed this physically-demanding task and received a bamboo log with a painting on the side.

Answer: Brent and Josh

After the Detour, teams needed to use their jute bags/bamboo logs to direct their taxi drivers to the next Pit Stop, the Lok Shilpa Jadughar in the Sonargaon region of Bangladesh. James and Abba pulled in in first place yet again (having avoided encountering any other teams due to their previous Fast Forward victory).

They ended up receiving a trip for two (courtesy of Travelocity) to Malaysia. At the end of the leg, Brent and Josh were last to arrive due to a series of unfortunate mishaps in the sweltering heat of Bangladesh.

They were, however, spared from elimination in this leg.

Answer: Istanbul

Departing from Lok Shilpa Jadughar the next morning (and afternoon), the teams were told to head to the travel agency to start looking for flights to Istanbul, Turkey, a destination more than three thousand seven hundred miles away. All seven teams ended up taking the same flight to this unique city between Asia and Europe.

When they landed on the European side, teams needed to take a taxi or the Metro to the Kabatas Ferry Terminal on the Bosporus. From there, their clue told them to head back to Asia, crossing the Bosporus by ferry, and find another clue box at the Uskudar Ferry Terminal.

Answer: Ice cream

Arriving at the second ferry terminal, teams were told to take a taxi to Misir Carsisi, a spice bazaar in the city, where they could find their next clue at shop #14. Here, Josh and Brent located their Speed Bump task for this leg of the race. For this additional task they had to find a marked ice cream stall outside the bazaar at the New Mosque and order two scoops of Turkish ice cream in a cone.

This proved difficult in itself; Turkish ice cream vendors are also entertainers and magicians-- they had to sit through the act before eating the food.

After this they could continue with the race.

At the spice bazaar, teams found a Detour task. Their choice: 'Simit' or 'Scrub It'. In 'Simit', teams needed to head to a local bakery and, using a large serving tray, balance local bagels, known as simits, on their head as they delivered specific amounts to three different restaurants in the area.

When they returned with received stamps, their baker would hand over the clue. Josh and Brent and Rob and Kelley did this. In 'Scrub It', teams took bathing items and headed to a 16th-century Turkish bathhouse where they had to choose an attendant and get a full treatment (including deep tissue massage). Trey and Lexi, Abbie and Ryan, Natalie and Nadiya, James and Abba, and Jaymes and James completed this one.

After completing their Detour, teams were told to proceed on foot to the Kapali Carsi bazaar where they could find their clues at a marked fountain. This, the Road Block task for this leg of the race, looked for members who could 'pour their hearts out'.

In this task, they needed to dress in Turkish outfits, don a large brass container, and serve up forty glasses of Turkish Sherbet, one of the earliest soft drinks ever made. Once they earned forty lira (about twenty dollars US), they could receive their next clue. Lexi, Ryan, Abba, Natalie, James, Brent, and Kelley did this task.

After the Road Block, teams were sent by taxi to their sixth Pit Stop, the mat of which was in front of a naval ship known as the Savarona docked on the Bosporus. Here, Trey and Lexi won their first leg of the race and took with them a trip for two, courtesy of Travelocity, to Australia.

Although the race was a close one, Josh and Brent overcame the odds and finished in sixth place ahead of Rob and Kelley. This last team's choice to take the metro earlier on cost them a better position and, as such, they were eliminated from the race.
