Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In Leg 9, teams left the United Arab Emirates and flew to what Indonesian city?

Answer: Bandung

Heading out from the eighth Pit Stop at the Mercure Grand Hotel atop Jebel Hafeet, teams were told to head to the airport in Abu Dhabi and to fly their way to the city of Bandung, Indonesia on the island of Java (which was done via Singapore). Leo and Jamal, who overslept at the Pit Stop in Leg 8, left for Leg 9 with Ally and Ashley, later than their regularly-scheduled departure time. Nonetheless, all five teams were on the same flight to Southeast Asia.
2. Upon arriving in Indonesia in Leg 9, teams had to deliver which animals, only to watch them fight in a local arena?

Answer: Rams

Once there, teams needed to take a taxi to Cikapandang Village and, upon arrival, collect two rams from down the street and deliver them to the arena. After they watched the rams fight each other, ramming into each other with their horns, they had to return them to their trucks to get their next clue.

After this, they needed to take a taxi to board a train taking them from Rancaekek Station back to Bandung. Their next clue box would be on the train platform.
3. In Leg 9 in Indonesia, teams completed a Detour task by choosing either 'For the Birds' or which of these options?

Answer: 'For the Elephants'

Arriving back in Bandung, teams found their Detour clue, a choice between 'For the Elephants' and 'For the Birds'. In 'For the Elephants', teams needed to pick up several items-- watermelons, sweet potatoes, bananas, and sugar cane, and deliver them to the Bandung Zoo by any means, specifically to the elephant enclosure. Once there they could feed the elephants the items to get their next clue. Leo and Jamal, Ally and Ashley, Tim and Marie, and Jason and Amy completed this task.

In 'For the Birds', teams needed to pick up two birds from a market and bring them to a local bird singing competition where they would have to perform for judges to receive their next clue. Nicole and Travis finished this.
4. In Leg 9, team members needed to construct an angklung during the Road Block task. What is an angklung?

Answer: A musical instrument

After the Detour task, teams had to hop into cabs and hitch a ride to the Saung Angklung Udjo in Padasuka. Once there, teams had to choose one member with musical talent to construct an angklung using pieces mixed into a pile on the floor. Once the team member had constructed the device and could play a full octave, they would be able to receive their next clue. Nicole, Leo, Amy, Tim, and Ashley completed this task, though an entire emotional breakdown almost ensued when an exhausted Nicole was unable to solve the puzzle or look off others' instruments for guidance.
5. Which team was eliminated in Indonesia in Leg 9?

Answer: Ally and Ashley

After completing the Road Block task in Leg 9, teams were told to head to the next Pit Stop mat sitting in front of the Bosscha Observatory overlooking Lembang, Indonesia. Leo and Jamal took their second win of the race for leading the pack through the Road Block and, as a result, they won $7,500 each.

Although they led through most of the leg, Ally and Ashley choked during the Detour task and fell too far back to stay in the race. They were the seventh team eliminated upon their arrival at the Pit Stop.
6. At the start of Leg 10 in Indonesia, teams had to eat which of the following animals?

Answer: Cobra

Leaving the Pit Stop in Lembang in the morning, the final four teams were told to take a taxi to their next destination, the village of Parongpong where they would have to proceed on foot to find the King Cobra House at the Ciwangun Indah Camp. Unbeknownst to the teams, they also needed to eat portions of grilled cobra meat to receive their next clue, sending them to the Tangkuban Perahu Volcano in Subang. Unsurprisingly, King Cobras contain a lot of little bones.
7. During the Leg 10 Road Block, what did teams need to do with eggs given to them at an Indonesian volcano?

Answer: Hardboil them

After their quick meal break, teams were told to head to a center on the side of the Tangkuban Perahu Volcano. From there, they had to choose a member of each team for the Road Block task. Jamal, Jason, Travis, and Marie were all selected for the task which required that they take a basket of eggs (on the end of a long pole) on an eight minute scooter-back ride through the jungle to the Kawah Domas Crater where, patiently, they had to hardboil their eggs in the scalding springs and return them, unbroken, to the starting point. Once they had twelve perfectly hardboiled eggs, they could receive their next clue.
8. In Leg 10, teams which team completed the 'Turn Over a New Leaf' Detour option?

Answer: Leo and Jamal

After the Road Block, teams were sent onward with their Detour task. In 'Turn Over a New Leaf', teams were told to make their way through Subang to the Ciater Tea Plantation. Once there they had to don traditional tea harvesting garb and, using sticks, search through the rows and rows of tea plants to find a pair of shears marked with a race flag hidden amongst the leaves. Only Leo and Jamal went with this task, and it ended up taking several hours.
9. During the 'Paint Your Partner' Detour task in Indonesia in Leg 10, with what did the teams have to paint their partners?

Answer: Makeup

Teams not opting to 'Turn Over a New Leaf' instead completed the 'Paint Your Partner' Detour task. For this option, Nicole and Travis, Jason and Amy, and Tim and Marie headed to Subang's Gracia Spa Graha Ciater where, without a mirror, they had to dress themselves up as traditional Javanese brides; both members needed to do their makeup (including accoutrements) to the standards of a model. Once they did this (and egads did it take a while) they would receive their next clue.
10. Which team was last to arrive at the non-elimination Pit Stop in Indonesia in Leg 10?

Answer: Leo and Jamal

After the Detour task, teams needed to take a taxi to the tenth Pit Stop: Curug Cimahi, a waterfall in the town of Cisarua, outside of Bandung. Here, Amy and Jason, after five different legs placing no higher than second place, finally ended up winning their first leg.

As a result the two of them ended up receiving a trip for two to Cancun courtesy of Travelocity. In the end, since they didn't know what they were looking for, Leo and Jamal were the last team to land on the mat and, as a result, were strapped with a non-elimination penalty-- the second of two in the race-- meaning that they would need to overcome a Speed Bump in Leg 11.
