Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Where was the starting line for teams in the beginning of this "Amazing Race"?

Answer: Los Angeles

Twelve teams departed after receiving their clues at the race's starting line, the center of Dodger's Stadium in Los Angeles, California, and from here they were instructed to make their way to Milan, Italy on one of three predetermined flights out of LAX. Seats, of course, would be first-come-first-serve and teams would need to park in a specific car park before getting their tickets. Only four teams boarded the Swiss Air flight (the earliest), three teams took the second, a Lufthansa flight, and the remaining five teams boarded a flight on KLM. Once in Milan, teams needed to take a taxi to Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II to find their next clue.
2. At Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II in Milan, Italy in Leg 1, teams needed to take a time to ride on which of these?

Answer: Bus

Once at Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, teams needed to search the area for tickets to take a charter bus. Throughout the Galleria, three different departure times could be found: 2:00am, 4:00am, and 6:00am, and once a team took their ticket, they could not switch it for an earlier one if found.

As a result, some of the lead teams were pushed back by quick choices. Teams made their way, unknowingly, to the town of Cortina d'Ampezzo in the Dolomite Alps. Once there, they would receive a clue instructing them to make their way to Cinque Torri, ride a chairlift to the top, and follow a marked path to find their next cluebox.
3. Which team claimed the Fast Forward clue in Leg 1?

Answer: Monica and Sheree

Once arriving in Cortina d'Ampezzo, teams also received the first Fast Forward option of the race. To claim the clue, the participating team needed to head to Passo Giau to find a field containing their flag. Once there, they would need to don snowshoes and hike up to a route marker at the top of a hill where their clue would be found. Monica and Sheree, who arrived in Cortina d'Ampezzo on the second bus, decided to snag the Fast Forward early on in the race in order to maintain a lead.
4. Which Detour option was completed by all of the teams in Leg 1 in Italy?

Answer: Rescue

At Cinque Torri, teams had their first Detour option, a choice between 'Search' and 'Rescue'. In 'Search', teams needed to use a navigational tool on a hundred and sixty acre field of snow to find a key buried beneath the surface. Using this key, players could drive a snowmobile to their next route marker.

In 'Rescue', teams needed to head up the mountain to cross a small rescue wire bridge and then take a precarious zipline over a deep ravine to reach the next clue on the other side. Although this task was more frightening, all participating teams completed it.
5. Which team was eliminated in Leg 1 in Italy?

Answer: Debra and Steve

After completing the Detour task, teams were told to head to the first Pit Stop of the race, the Hotel Lajadira back in Cortina d'Ampezzo. Once at this chalet, teams could hop onto the mat. After staying tight for the majority of the leg, Amanda and Chris, Millie and Chuck, and Steve and Josh all hopped onto the mat at the same time and finished in first place.

They all won a vacation to Hawaii for their victory. Despite their Fast Forward, Monica and Sheree took a fourth place win. After falling behind early on, Debra and Steve, who flew in on the last plane and took the last bus, ended up arriving at the Pit Stop in last and were subsequently eliminated from the race.
6. Departing from the Italian Alps in Leg 2, teams needed to head to which Italian city?

Answer: Venice

Departing from the Hotel Lajadira in the middle of the night, teams were told to take a taxi through Cortina d'Ampezzo to find the Trampolino Olimpico and their next task which required that they hop into a van and drive to the top with an inflatable raft. Once at the top of the hill, teams needed to hop into the raft and ride to the bottom in order to receive their next clue.

Despite the step-by-step instructions as to what needed to be done, some teams decided to go to the top of the hill without a raft...and force themselves to go back down. Heading out from Cortina d'Ampezzo, teams needed to reach one of two train stations nearby to hitch a ride to Venice, Italy.
7. How many teams completed the 'Pathway' Detour option in Leg 2?

Answer: Two

Once in Venice, teams needed to make their way to Ponte Della Guglia Bridge to find their next clue: the second Detour class of the race. In this Detour, teams needed to choose between either 'Pathway' or 'Waterway'. In 'Waterway', teams needed to follow a map using a gondola through the narrow canals of Venice while in 'Pathway', teams needed to find the same clue box, in a small plaza, on foot. If teams chose the 'Pathway' option, they would not have a map, but they'd be able to ask for help. Reichen and Chip, Jon and Al, Monica and Sheree, Steve and Josh, Chris and Amanda, David and Jeff, Russell and Cindy, Steve and Dave, and Tian and Jaree took to the 'Waterway' while Millie and Chuck decided to take the 'Pathway' option, beating the other teams and Kelly and Jon followed suit.
8. To claim the Fast Forward for the second leg of the race, the participating team needed to do which of these?

Answer: Watch a performance

Once in Venice, teams had the option to try to obtain the Fast Forward which required that they head to a specific plaza do find a small Italian performance, the Commedia Dell'Arte, in progress. Once there, they would need to stay for the duration of the skit in order to receive their clue from the group. Steve and Dave decided to complete the Fast Forward task during this leg due to their leg pain and as a result were rewarded with instructions to head directly to the next Pit Stop. Meanwhile, the rest of the teams continued with the race.
9. In Leg 2, who did not complete the Road Block task?

Answer: Kelly

After the Detour, teams needed to cross the city to find the Palazzo de Matzo. Once there, they would be able to find their next clue at a doorway. This would be the first Road Block task of the race. Once the task opened at 5:00pm, teams needed to choose one member to go inside with a picture and search amongst various rooms for a person wearing a mask identical to the one in their photograph. If the player guessed correctly, they would be handed a clue, but if they got it incorrect, the needed to go back to the end of the line. Only four players could be in the building at once. Chip, Jeff, Tian, Russell, Monica, Josh, Jon, Chris, Millie, and Al all completed this task.
10. Which team was eliminated in Leg 2?

Answer: Chris and Amanda

After completing the Road Block, teams needed to make their way on foot to the Pit Stop, a boat known as the Citta de Padora, docked along Venice's main lagoon. Once here, teams would check in and the ones arriving in last place would be eliminated. Steve and Dave, having won the Fast Forward earlier in the leg, checked in in first place a few hours before the remaining teams.

After sunset, the remaining teams began to check in. Chris and Amanda, after making too many mistakes at the Road Block, were unable to catch up to the other teams and were eliminated as a result.
