Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the first Leg of the race, teams completed a Detour task at which location?

Answer: A mountain

In the first Detour task of the race, teams made their way to Cinque Torri in the Italian Alps. once they took a chairlift to the top, they needed to find a clue box containing their Detour options, 'Search' and 'Rescue'. 'Search' required that players make their way to a large field on the mountain to search for a key buried in the snow with a navigational device. Once players found this, they needed to use it to drive a snowmobile across the mountain to their next clue box. None of the teams chose this task.

Instead, eleven teams participated in the 'Rescue' task which required that they first cross a wire cable bridge and then take a zipline across a ravine to reach their next clue box. After the Detour, teams made their way to the first Pit Stop: The Hotel Lajadira.
2. In Leg 2, teams went to Venice. One of the Detour options made use of gondolas.

Answer: True

Once at the Ponte Della Guglia Bridge in Venice, teams were given a Detour task consisting of 'Pathway' and 'Waterway'. In 'Pathway', teams needed to navigate the narrow streets of Venice to find a clue box in a particular plaza. In 'Waterway', however, teams needed to make their way by gondola, and using a map, find the same plaza location in the city. Only Millie and Chuck and Kelly and Jon completed the 'Pathway' Detour task while the remaining nine teams took on the gondolas.

After the Detour, teams made their way to Palazzo de Matzo for a Road Block task.
3. In Leg 3, teams made their way to Austria for a Detour task. In one option, 'Mozart', team members needed to carry which instrument through Vienna?

Answer: Bass violin

Teams arrived at Schönbrunn Palace in Vienna, Austria to find the Detour awaiting them. In 'Mozart', teams needed to carry a bass violin six miles to the location where Mozart composed "The Marriage of Figaro". Once there, they would retrieve their next clue.

In 'Beethoven', teams needed to take a portfolio of sheet music approximately eleven miles to a lesser-known residence of Beethoven across town. Only Kelly and Jon performed the latter task. After the Detour, teams were told to make their way to the Donauturm across the city.
4. In Leg 5 teams made their way to Amsterdam. How many teams found themselves knee-deep in manure during the Detour task?

Answer: Five

In the Detour in Leg 5, teams headed out from the Scheepvaart Museum in Amsterdam and selected either '15 Feet' in which teams traveled twelve miles to a ranch where they needed to search a 15 foot pile of cow dung for their clue, or '500 Kilograms' in which they needed to head thirty miles to a town where they needed to wear wooden clogs and transfer 500 kilograms of cheese onto a scale using a wooden transport device. Jon and Al, Jon and Kelly, Monica and Sheree, David and Jeff, and Tian and Jaree completed the '15 Feet' task while Steve and Dave and Reichen and Chip completed '500 Kilograms'.

After the Detour, teams went to the town of Monnickendam for a Road Block task.
5. In the Detour for Leg 6, teams completed tasks in India. One Detour option was 'Suds'. What was the other?

Answer: Duds

In Leg 6, teams arrived in Mumbai, India and found "Bollywood". Once in one of the studios, teams were told to choose either 'Duds' or 'Suds', both of which required that they take a train to one of two destinations. In 'Duds', teams needed to locate a hard-to-find sari shop and search through hundreds of saris for one containing their next destination. Jon and Al completed this task.

In 'Suds', teams needed to find an outdoor laundry area and clean a bag of dirty clothes to find one garment with the clue written on the fabric.

The remaining six teams did this task. After the Detour, teams drove across Mumbai to Sassoon Docks.
6. In the Detour in India in Leg 7, how many teams decided to ride elephants?

Answer: Five

In Leg 7, teams found themselves in Alleppey, India on Beach Road where they located the Detour task. This Detour required a decision between 'Baskets' and 'Trunks'. In 'Baskets', teams needed to take a bike and cart and take a total of ten chickens to a specific house in the village.

In 'Trunks', on the other hand, teams needed to ride an elephant to a shop across town to deliver two large bundles of coir. While almost all of the teams completed 'Trunks', Reichen and Chip completed 'Baskets' and edged in at the Pit Stop in second-to-last place (after trailing through the whole leg).
7. In which country did teams complete the 'Chop' or 'Haul' Detour of Leg 9?

Answer: Malaysia

Heading out from the Poring Hot Springs in Malaysia, teams drove to the Detour task at Trushidup Palm Oil Plantation in Sandakan. Once there, teams chose between 'Haul' and 'Chop'. In 'Haul', completed by Jon and Al, David and Jeff, and Millie and Chuck, teams needed to take twenty-five palm nut bundles (about twenty-five pounds each) using a wheelbarrow and toss them into the back of a large truck.

In 'Chop', which Kelly and Jon decided to do, teams needed to use a hooked instrument to cut nut bundles out of trees.

While some of these contained a clue, some of them were duds, forcing players to keep searching. After the Detour, teams made their way tot he Road Block at Gomantong Caves.
8. In which Detour task in Leg 10 (in South Korea) did teams need to eat live octopus?

In 'Feet First', teams would've needed to run down the stairs of the building, across a couple blocks of Brisbane, and back up another thirty stories to the roof of a different building to find their next clue. All participants completed 'Face First' though in which teams needed to perform a face-first rappel two hundred meters down the side of the Holiday Inn.

After this, teams drove to Mooloolaba.
