Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What country do the teams fly to in leg 5?

Answer: Panama

Teams departed from the fourth pit stop at Preservation Hall in New Orleans, and finally flew out of the United States. The Bransens, Linzes and Paolos flew to Panama on the first flight, and the Weavers, Gaghans, and Godlewskis arrived two and a half hours later. Once in Panama City, teams needed to take a boat at the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute to find a scientist named Ricardo Diaz.
2. Which team claimed the Fast Forward during leg 5?

Answer: Paolo

According to this episode, the Fast Forward is the only Fast Forward of "The Amazing Race 8". By taking this Fast Forward, the Paolos were able to head straight to the pit stop. To get the Fast Forward, the Paolos had to bungee jump in tandem from the top of Pier 14 on the Panama Canal. Although the Gaghans also drove to Pier 14, the Paolos were able to complete the task first.
3. In leg 5, more teams completed the 'Coos' task than the 'Rhythm' task.

Answer: False

In 'Rhythm', teams had to find four different instruments at different buildings in Panama City, while in 'Coos', teams had to find five fake birds at El Parque Metropolitano and circle them on a large chart of local birds. The Bransens and Weavers completed the 'Coos' task, and the rest of the families chose 'Rhythm'.

The Paolos didn't complete a Detour task because they went for the Fast Forward.
4. What sport did teams need to play during the Road Block in leg 5?

Answer: Baseball

After the Detour, teams had to drive to Estadio Juan Demostenes Arosemena and find the Road Block. Once there, one team member had to hit a baseball so that they could run for first base. If the team member got struck out, they'd have to go to the end of the line. Rolly Weaver, Beth Bransen, Nick Linz, Sharon Godlewski and Bill Gaghan completed this task for their teams.
5. Which was the last team to arrive at the Pit Stop in leg 5?

Answer: Godlewski

After the Road Block (or Fast Forward), teams drove to the Pit Stop at the Mira Flores Locks on the Pacific side of the Panama Canal. The Paolos, which were the first family members to arrive, won a trip to Panama, while the last place team, the Godlewskis, were spared from elimination, although they were forced to hand over all of their belongings and cash.
6. Which team was on the first bus to Costa Rica in leg 6?

Answer: Linz

The Paolo and Linz families were first to leave the bus station at 11:30am, the Gaghans and Weavers left half an hour later, and the Godlewskis and Bransens left at 12:30pm. Once in Costa Rica, teams needed to find a parking lot to find their van, and then drive to a volcano.
7. Which team was a victim of the Yield in leg 6?

Answer: Weaver

After receiving their next clue, teams drove to a coffee bean plantation and came across the Yield. Although basically every team had planned to use the Yield on the drive over, the Paolos were first to land on the Yield mat, and they used it, forcing the Weavers to wait out the time.
8. What coloured coffee bean did team members need to find during the Road Block in leg 6?

Answer: Red

During the Road Block, team members needed to search through a large pile of white coffee beans for a single red one. Although the task seemed simple, the Gaghan family had a hard time, and the Weavers had the chance to catch up. After this, teams needed to find a clue at a surf shop in Jaco.
9. Only one family completed the 'Relic' Detour task in leg 6.

Answer: False

Five teams completed the 'Relic' task which required them to travel across rope-bridges in the rainforest canopy until they found large relics. After, they had to carry them back to the parking lot to receive their clues. In the 'Ripe' Detour task, teams needed to carry fifteen bushels of bananas onto a pulley system, and pull them to a certain area to receive the clue. Only the Paolo family completed this task.
10. Which team was eliminated in leg 6?

Answer: Gaghan

Teams rushed twenty miles to the Pit Stop on the Pacific Ocean. The first team to arrive, the Paolo family, beat the Linz and Bransen families by mere seconds. In the end, the Gaghans couldn't recover from the tough Road Block and they became the fifth team eliminated from the race.
