Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The starting line for this season of the race was held in which city?

Answer: Singapore

Ten teams disembarked from boats in Singapore to begin their race around Asia (and beyond) at the Asian Civilizations Museum. When they were given the go-ahead, the teams raced to their clue envelopes resting on their bags and were told to search a three hundred meter radius from the museum for a taxi containing a dashboard fixture representing a postcard enclosed with their clue.

This fixture would be a small souvenir from Singapore. When they traded the postcard they would be able to receive their next clue sending them to the top of Mount Faber in search of a specific merlion statue at the peak.
2. For the Detour task in Leg 1, teams could choose either 'Dare' or 'Stair'. Most of the teams chose 'Dare'.

Answer: True

After finding their merlion statue, teams were told to travel by taxi to a location that they would punch into a provided Nokia N95 GPS system. This would take them to Suntec City's Suntec Towers where they would need to complete one of two Detour choices-- 'Dare' or 'Stair'.

In 'Dare', teams needed to don safety equipment and take an elevator to the roof of Tower 3 where they would need to traverse a rope system to the roof of Tower 4, one hundred eighty meters off the ground. In 'Stair', teams climbed forty-five floors to the top of Tower 3, head back to the ground floor, and then climb the same height up Tower 4. All ten teams completed 'Dare'.
3. In the first leg of the race, teams flew to which country?

Answer: The Philippines

Completing the Detour task, teams needed to fly to the capital city of The Philippines, Manila, and then take a taxi from the airport to the ASEAN Promenade Park to locate their next clue at the CCP Complex on the waterfront. Unlike in the first leg of most American seasons, teams needed to purchase tickets on their own instead of taking pre-purchased, reserved seats on different flights.

As such, eight teams departed on the first flight that afternoon traveling over two thousand kilometers while the last two teams took the next flight. Both arrived in the evening.
4. Towards the end of the first leg, teams needed to eat which Asian delicacy?

Answer: Balut eggs

After finding their clues at the promenade (in heavy rain), teams were told to take their taxis to the nearby Plaza Miranda to find a local balut seller and their next task. To obtain their next clue, each team needed to eat a total of eight balut eggs between both members.

This delicacy, an underdeveloped duck embryo in an eggshell, ended up putting many teams off but they were all able to stomach it to continue on.
5. Which team was last to arrive at the first Pit Stop of the race?

Answer: Edwin and Monica

After the balut egg task, teams were told to head to the first Pit Stop of the race, Fort Santiago in Manila. Here, sisters Vanessa and Pamela took the very first victory of the race by stepping on the mat ahead of Marc and Rovilson. For their win, they ended up receiving N95 and N73 mobile phones from Nokia (the former of which was used as their GPS in Singapore).

In the end of the leg, Edwin and Monica stepped on the mat in tenth place but were spared from elimination. Instead, during the next leg they would be marked for elimination-- they would need to place first or else face a thirty-minute time penalty upon checking in.
6. For their first Road Block of the race in Leg 2, teams needed to work with which of the following?

Answer: Animals

Beginning the second leg of the race, teams departed from the Pit Stop at Fort Santiago and were told to make their way to town of Pila Laguna outside Manila to find the next clue box outside the Pila Municipal Center. Here, teams encountered their very first Road Block of the race. For this Road Block, teams had to head to a rice paddy and then select a carabao.

Then, they needed to control the carabao to plow a figure eight course without help from a local farmer to receive their next clue. Marc, Vanessa, Kinaryosih, Diane, Aurelia, Natasha, Adrian, Daichi, Henrry, and Edwin all had animal instinct of this task.
7. How many buses were teams required to take during the second leg of the race?

Answer: Two

Teams needed to take two buses in this leg of the race, the first being a Green Star bus from a specific stop in Manila to the town of Pila, an hour and a half away, and the second coming after the Road Block. This second ride took teams from Pila back towards the capital city of Manila.

After the Road Block they needed to find a Caltex Star-mart gas station in the city where they could locate the Jeepneys that they would take to their next destination in the city.
8. During Leg 2, teams needed to bring donation items to which location?

Answer: Orphanage

At the Caltex Star-Mart, teams needed to load four boxes of donation items into the back of their Jeepneys and ride with them to the Nuestra Seņora de Guia Children's Center and Livelihood Program. When they arrived they could hand off their toys and supplies and receive their next clue, a Detour task which they would need to head to Santa Cruz in Manila to reach. Once teams made their way by Jeepney to the Carriedo LRT Station they would be able to begin.
9. During their Detour task in Leg 2, teams could choose between 'Wheel' and what other option?

Answer: 'Heel'

At Santa Cruz, teams chose their Detour task. In 'Heel', they needed to hop into a pile of five hundred shoes and match them up into pairs. Once they set aside all two-hundred and fifty pairs they could continue on. In 'Wheel', teams would need to assemble a bike with all of the tools and parts provided. Adrian and Collin, Brett and Kinaryosih and Paula and Natasha, finished 'Heel' while Marc and Rovilson, Ann and Diane, Vanessa and Pamela, Sophie and Aurelia, Daichi and Sawaka, Terri and Henry, and Edwin and Monica finished 'Wheel'.
10. Which team was eliminated at the end of Leg 2?

Answer: Edwin and Monica

After the Detour task, teams needed to head out by taxi to their next Pit Stop, Paco Park and Memorial Cemetery. Racing in on foot, the leg was won by Marc and Rovilson who ended up receiving a $5,000 prepaid Standard Chartered Bank credit card for use after the race.

In the end, Edwin and Monica stepped on the mat in last place and became the first team eliminated this season. Although they were Marked for Elimination, the fact that they were last to step on the mat meant that the thirty minute penalty would not have mattered.
