Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In Leg 3, teams flew to what Alberta city?

Answer: Calgary

In Leg 3, teams departed from their second Pit Stop in the Vancouver Convention Center and set out to the airport to catch a flight taking them to Calgary, Alberta, home to the Calgary Stampede. Split onto two flights, the teams were told to make their way into the downtown core of the city to locate their next Route Marker in front of the Statue of Outlaw, a famous rodeo bull.

There, teams would find their next clue. To get to Calgary, teams needed to book their flights online.
2. In Alberta in Leg 3, teams needed to perform which of the following during their Road Block?

Answer: A line dance

After finding the Statue of Outlaw in Calgary, teams needed to drive to Ranchman's Cookhouse to locate their Road Block task waiting outside. For this one, teams needed to choose one member (Joanne, Darren, Jody, Holly, Vanessa, Tim Sr., and Dave) who would need to dress up in country-themed garb and learn the precise steps of a line dance being performed in the restaurant.

When they were able to perfect their moves and perform them properly for a judge they would be able to continue on with the race.
3. During the 'Lump By Lump' Detour task in Leg 3 (in Alberta), teams needed to work with what material?

Answer: Coal

After the Road Block was complete, teams needed to drive to the city of Drumheller, Alberta to locate their next clue box waiting amongst the famous Drumheller Hoodoos. This was the teams' Detour task for this leg of the race. All but Holly and Brett chose to complete 'Lump By Lump', a task sending them on a train ride to the Atlas Coal Mine to don coal miner gear and shovel enough coal to fill a large mining cart to the brim.

When a prospector deemed their cart ready for hauling they would receive their next clue.
4. In Leg 3, one team attempted the 'Bone By Bone' Detour task in Alberta. What did they need to create?

Answer: A dinosaur

Instead of 'Lump By Lump', teams could also choose 'Bone By Bone', the second Detour option (which Holly and Brett did). For this they needed to head to Royal Tyrrell Museum of Palaeontology in Midland Provincial Park and observe a specific dinosaur skeleton.

They were then sent to a specific room in order to recreate the skeleton (properly) with all of the necessary bones. When the dinosaur was properly constructed they would be able to receive their next clue.
5. Which team was last to arrive at the Pit Stop in Alberta in Leg 3?

Answer: Tim Sr. and Tim Jr.

After the Detour, teams were told to head to the third Pit Stop of the race overlooking Horse Thief Canyon near Drumheller, Alberta. Hal and Joanne, who jetted ahead after the Road Block, coasted to their first victory of the race, placing first and winning a trip for two anywhere in the United States courtesy of Air Canada.

After a poor showing in the Road Block and getting lost after the Detour, Tim Jr. and Tim Sr. arrived at the Pit Stop in last place. Luckily, they were spared by the first non-elimination round of the race.
6. In Leg 4, teams did not fly to which northern territory?

Answer: Nunavut

After their mandatory Pit Stop, teams began Leg 4 by opening clues sending them directly to the airport to catch a flight northbound to Yellowknife, the capital city of the Northwest Territories. All seven remaining teams arrived on the same flight passing through Edmonton. Upon touching down in this northerly city, teams needed to hop into brand new Chevrolet Traverse and head to the Bush Pilot's Monument, a statue sitting atop Yellowknife, to find their next clue.
7. Which team member did not complete the polar bear dip Road Block task in Leg 4?

Answer: Brett

After locating the Bush Pilot's Monument, teams had to make their way to the Government Dock resting on Great Slave Lake (located a short distance away), park their trucks, and proceed on foot half a kilometer across the frozen waters to the Yellowknife Bay Floating Bed & Breakfast.

This is where teams found a frigid Road Block task in which one member of each duo had to strip down into a bathing suit (and socks) and perform a polar bear dip, a freezing-cold jump into the ice water of the lake. Once they jumped in and retrieved their clue, they could continue on.
8. Upon arriving in Carcross, a Speed Bump was completed. During this task, one team had to memorize which of the following?

Answer: A poem

After the Road Block, teams needed to return to their trucks and drive to the Yellowknife Airport to sign up on one of three charter flights heading westbound to the old gold mining town of Carcross in the Yukon Territory. Upon landing in this isolated destination they then had to proceed on foot from the airfield to the Duchess, an old mining train sitting in the town center.

Here, Tim Sr. and Tim Jr. had to complete a Speed Bump task where both had to memorize Robert Service's poem "The Shooting of Dan McGrew" and recite the first four stanzas to rejoin the race.
9. How many teams used an Express Pass in the Territories in Leg 4?

Answer: One

After finding Duchess in Carcross, teams had to complete a Detour task: 'Yukon Supply Run' or 'Klondike Gold Rush'. In 'Yukon Supply Run', teams had to construct a rudimentary raft using simple parts in order to paddle out to a clue resting in Bennett Lake. Brett and Holly and Kristen and Darren completed this task.

In 'Klondike Gold Rush', teams completed three tasks all related to Yukon activities. This began with using a two-man saw to cut through a log, then continued on to a hatchet toss, and then ended with a blindfolded wheelbarrow test in which one collected nuggets in a wheelbarrow and their teammate, blindfolded, had to push them through the course. Jet and Dave, Hal and Joanne, Tim Jr. and Tim Sr., and Jody and Cory completed this task. Celina and Vanessa did not complete the Detour, instead opting to use their gifted Express Pass to skip the option.
10. Which team was eliminated at the end of Leg 4 in the Yukon?

Answer: Kristen and Darren

After the detour, teams were told to hop onto all-terrain vehicles and ride them across Carcross to the Carcross Desert, allegedly the world's smallest desert (at a square kilometer in area. Once there they had to trek through the sands to find Jon and the Pit Stop. Jet and Dave landed there first to win their first leg of the race; they received a trip for two to Cancun courtesy of Air Canada.

After a final footrace, Jody and Cory stepped on the Pit Stop in sixth place and were followed by Kristen and Darren who were eliminated with the Express Pass in hand, making them the second team in "Amazing Race" history to be eliminated with such a powerful item at their disposal. With Vanessa and Celina also using theirs, this removed the mechanic from the game.
