Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which actor played the part of Dr. Mark Greene?

Answer: Anthony Edwards

The part of Dr. Greene was the critically acclaimed role of Anthony Edwards, who was on the show from the beginning until his "death" in 2002. In the show, Edwards died of a brain tumor. He had been Chief Resident, and later the Attending Physician of the ER. Edwards played the roll for a total of eight seasons, seasons one through eight.

He also appeared in season 15 ("ER's" final season) in flashback scenes. Edwards is well known outside of "ER" for his roles in "Revenge Of The Nerds" and "Top Gun".
2. This actress had a short stint as Dr. Anna Del Amico. Who was she?

Answer: Maria Bello

Bello was only on during season four, and was written off the show as moving to another hospital in Philadelphia. Bello was first known after being cast in the television show "Mr. and Mrs. Smith", a show which was cancelled after only eight episodes. After leaving the show she landed a major role in the motion picture "Coyote Ugly".
3. This guy played the role of Dr. Ray Barnett for three seasons. Who was this music lover?

Answer: Shane West

West played the role during seasons eleven through thirteen. The music lover references his role as an ER doctor and his moonlighting job as a member of a rock band. He was written off the series at the end of season thirteen; his character lost his legs after being hit by a motor vehicle.

The music reference mirrors his career because, in addition to acting, he had his own band called "Jonny Was", and also performed with the punk band called "The Germs". West's most well known role was that of Tom Sawyer in the motion picture "The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen".

He appeared again working in a rehab center towards the end of the final season.
4. This lady, who guest starred during the first season, came back as a regular cast member and played the role of Dr. Jing Mei Chen. Who was she?

Answer: Ming Na

Ming Na appeared in season one as a medical student who decided to leave medical school. In that season she appeared in eight episodes. She re-appeared as an attending physician in season six and stayed with the show until the end of season eleven, when her character again left, this time to take care of her ailing father. Na's other credits have included roles in the motion pictures "The Joy Luck Club", and "Street Fighter" as well as the voice for the title character in a Disney animated film called "Mulan".

She also has appeared as a guest star on various television series.
5. This young television star played the role of Dr. Michael Gallant on and off for a few seasons. Who was this guy?

Answer: Sharif Atkins

Atkins started on the show during season eight and remained through season ten. He also made a number of appearances in seasons eleven and twelve (although not as a regular). He became a love interest for one of the other members of the ER staff. He was depicted as being deployed to Iraq by the U.S. Army, and returned for a number of episodes before being sent back for a second tour and eventually being killed by an Improvised Explosive Device (IED). Subsequently Atkins has had roles in the television series "Hawaii", and "The 4400".
6. This fiery lady played the part of Dr. Elizabeth Corday. Who was this sultry siren?

Answer: Alex Kingston

Alexandra (Alex) Kingston is from England, and had appeared in a number of British television shows before being cast as Dr. Corday for the fourth season of "ER". She remained on the show until the beginning of season eleven when her character was written off after an episode about the ethics of organ donation.

She was married to "Dr. Mark Greene" during part of her tenure on the show. She also appeared in a show during the final season as well as the show's final episode.
7. This young actor had a stint as Dr. Dave Malucci for three seasons. Name him.

Answer: Erik Palladino

Palladino is from Yonkers, New York. The role on "ER" was his first major role, although he had made brief appearances in a few motion pictures, most notably a role in the teen comedy "Can't Hardly Wait". Palladino's character was on the show from seasons six through eight, and was written off as being fired for inappropriate conduct.
8. This original cast member played Dr. Peter Benton, a surgeon. Who was he?

Answer: Eriq La Salle

Eriq La Salle's best known role before Dr. Benton was the character named Daryl in the Eddie Murphy comedy film "Coming to America". Eriq was in the original cast of "ER", and stayed on through the end of season eight. He was written off the series by taking another job so he could spend more time with his son and girlfriend.

After "ER" La Salle had become an accomplished director of television shows, and actually directed an episode of "ER"'s final season. He also re-appeared as a surgeon at another hospital during that final season, and appeared in the final episode.
9. This lady had two separate stints on the show as Dr. Susan Lewis. Who was she?

Answer: Sherry Stringfield

Sherry Stringfield was one of the original cast members of the show, appearing in seasons one through three. She broke her five year contract to quit the show after the third season, even after being nominated for Emmy Awards in three successive years, but her character returned in season eight and stayed through season twelve.

She was written off the series as having accepted a tenured position in a hospital in Iowa. Stringfield's other credits include time on the soap opera "Guiding Light", and she also was part of the first season of "NYPD Blue".

She did make an appearance in the last episode of the series.
10. Who played the Chief Of Staff Dr. Robert Romano, before his untimely demise?

Answer: Paul McCrane

McCrane, nicknamed Rocket Romano on the show, appeared in seasons six through ten. During season nine his character lost an arm after backing into a helicopter blade. His character was a sharp tongued individual, often making off-color or insensitive remarks about both staff and patients. He met his demise at the end of season ten, when a Medivac helicopter crashed while landing on the roof of the hospital, and plummeted into the ambulance bay, crushing him beneath it. He did appear in flashback scenes during season fifteen. McCrane has made numerous appearances in film, most notably "Robocop", "Fame", and "From the Earth to the Moon", and on television, with appearances on "24", "The X-Files" and "Ugly Betty".
