Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What was the name of the episode in "Star Trek: The Original Series" that introduced the Romulan species?

Answer: Balance of Terror

The Romulans were an offshoot of the Vulcans who would not follow the teachings of Surak on the suppression of emotions. They left Vulcan at approximately 400 A.D. by Earth's calendar, and named their new home planets Romulus and Remus.

In "Balance of Terror", the Romulan ship captain was played by Mark Lenard, who later also played Spock's father Sarek.

2. What is the first Rule of Acquisition?

Answer: "Once you have their money, you never give it back."

Of course this question is about the Ferengi Rules of Acquisition which form the basis of their business philosophy. Ferengi are a completely profit motivated species. "Never allow family to stand in the way of opportunity," is rule number 6. "Greed is eternal" is rule number 10. And "Every man has his price" is rule number 98.

Rules listed in this question, as well as being able to hear them in various "Star Trek" episodes ("TNG" "DS9" "VOY" and "ENT") can be found on the "Memory Alpha website," in the article "Rules of Acquisition."

3. In "Star Trek: The Next Generation," who gets a chameleon rose as a present.

Answer: Deanna Troi

Wyatt Miller is the one who gives the chameleon rose to Deanna Troi as soon as he arrives on board the Enterprise. It changes colors depending on the mood of the person holding it. Since childhood Deanna and Wyatt were promised to each other. Wyatt has arrived on the Enterprise to fulfill the bond and promise by marrying Deanna. Though as the episode progresses, we find out that Wyatt has another stronger destiny that calls him.

4. In the "VOY" episode, "Innocence," Tuvok defined ___________ as "concentrated vitamin enriched nutritional supplements." What word goes in the blank?

Answer: rations

In this episode Tuvok crashes on one of the moons of Drayan II, the pilot is killed, and he comes to discover three alien children who are the survivors of a different crash. Tuvok becomes their protector and guardian for a time. But in the beginning the children were not too happy to hear that only starfleet rations were available for food, they wanted takka berries with cherel sauce.

On a side note, this is one of my favorite Tuvok episodes of "Voyager." It was fun and interesting to see him interact with the three children. There is something very unusual about these children, if you don't remember, then a rewatch of this episode is in order!

Question by christi_dove
5. Of the six Xindi species of "Star Trek: Enterprise," the Reptilians are the only one that is extinct.

Answer: False

This is false because only the Avians are extinct. They became extinct when the Xindi homeworld was destroyed.

6. In the "DS9" episode "Shakaar", Kai Winn wanted the soil reclamators to be returned. In which province did she want to use them instead of Dahkur province?

Answer: Rakantha

At the end of the occupation, the Cardassians had poisoned much of Bajor's land. Shakaar explained to Major Kira that Dahkur province had been waiting for the soil reclamators for three years and had been promised they could use them for a year. Following the death of First Minister Kalem Apren, Kai Winn became the temporary First Minister and ordered that the reclamators be returned.

Winn wanted Rakantha to grow food for export, whereas Shakaar just wanted to be able to feed fellow Bajorans. This led to a standoff between Shakaar and the government.

Question by Daddy19
7. What is Raktajino?

Answer: Klingon coffee

The first mention of the drink Raktajino was in "DS9".

Despite Curzon and Jadzia Dax's fondness for the beverage, Ezri was not so keen. This didn't stop her ordering it shortly after she was joined to the Dax symbiont.

Quark tried to develop a Quarktajino, which was a decaffeinated Raktajino, at the request of Chief O'Brien whilst Major Kira was carrying Kirayoshi. It was not popular!

Question by Daddy19
8. What was the name if Captain Picard's older brother?

Answer: Robert

Whilst Jean-Luc Picard chose to join Starfleet and explore the universe, Robert Picard remained at the family estate in La Barre, France. Jean-Luc returned home following the Borg attack to consider his future.

During the film "Star Trek: Generations", Captain Picard received notification that both his brother, Robert, and his nephew, Rene, had died in a fire.

9. This place did not have Holosuites. On "DS9" what was the place on the Promenade of Deep Space 9 where one could go to eat, drink, and enjoy the company of friends?

Answer: The Replimat

The replimat was featured in many episodes of "DS9." The answer isn't Quark's because his establishment had holosuites which also was prominently shown in several episodes. The Promenade Room is a made up name. There was also no such place as Vic's Rotisserie. Vic's Las Vegas Lounge was a holosuite program.

The "Replimat" article on the "Memory Alpha" website, lists a few events that have occurred at the replimat. Here is one of them: Julian Bashir and Garak have their first encounter at the replimat and later become friends ("Past Prologue"). This article also notes that this is the most popular place for lunch for those who lived on Deep Space 9. Further explained is the fact no Ferengi food could be obtained there, which is one other way that the replimat is different than Quark's. [Memory Alpha, "Replimat," http://memory-alpha.org/wiki/Replimat, (as of May 17, 2011)]

I assume the name of the replimat is due to the fact replicators are used to supply the food and drink.

10. Epsilon Ceti B II may be what it's name was on record, but this pleasurable planet famed for it's controlled climate and *very* friendly inhabitants had a more commonly known name. What was the planet that "Star Trek" personnel often chose to take their leave on?

Answer: Risa

Originally the planet had very violent storms and frequent earthquakes, but the native Risians developed a weather control network and seismic regulators to tame their planet. According to memory-alpha.org (the "Star Trek" wiki), Risa was approximately 90 light years from Earth.
