Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Let's start back in season one. The sixth episode called 'The Pack' deals with Xander being possessed by a hyena along with the mean kids at his school. He joins the pack of mean kids and chaos ensued. Who was the first to refer to the hyenas as 'the pack'?

Answer: The Zookeeper

Right before Xander and the mean kids get possessed Buffy and Willow are caught trying to follow them into the hyena cage. The Zookeeper, later discovered as the villain, tells Buffy and Willow how sinister hyenas can be.

Zookeeper: "The Masai tribesmen told me that hyenas are capable of
understanding human speech. They follow humans around by day, learning
their names. At night, when the campfire dies, they call out to a
person. Once they separate him, the pack (snaps his fingers) devours
them."
2. Jumping forward to season two, we find Buffy in peril alongside Cordelia and another girl Callie, from another school. They're being attacked by a big snake-like demon summoned by power-hungry frat boys. Who refers to the snake demon as 'Reptile Boy', the title of this episode.

Answer: Buffy

Buffy calls him this colorful nickname trying to stop him from eating Cordelia. Before she kills him, she also calls him 'Wormy'.
3. Jumping forward just a couple of episodes we find 'Lie To Me'. Unsurprisingly, it deals with loyalties and trust. While the episode title is said more than once, by whom is it said by itself as a sentence, as well as a demand?

Answer: Buffy

Both times the statement "lie to me" is said by Buffy, though the first time she is telling Angel, "don't lie to me". However, at the end of the episode her loyalties and trusts have been tested so much she tells Giles to lie to her about life in order to make it simpler.

Buffy: "Lie to me."

Giles: "The good guys are always stalwart and true, the bad guys are
easily distinguished by their pointy horns or black hats, and uh, we
always defeat them and save the day. No one ever dies, and everybody
lives happily ever after."

Buffy: "Liar."
4. Now let's revisit the emotional roller coaster episode 'Surprise'. This episode contains within it a surprise party for Buffy's 17th birthday. This means the word surprise is used quite often. However, it is only yelled once to greet Buffy at her party. Who greets Buffy with a heartfelt "Surprise" after she crashes into her party fighting a vampire?

Answer: Cordelia

While everyone else is reeling from the fight they just witnessed, Cordelia remains oblivious either to the whole thing, or perhaps its importance, and thus is the only one to "Surprise" at the party. She does add a sincere "Happy Birthday" as well.
5. The episode 'Passion' is when the newly changed Angelus decides to step it up and really terrorize Buffy and her friends. Passion is the theme of the episode, but do you remember, is it the first word spoken in the episode?

Answer: Yes

There are words sung in the song 'Who Can You Trust' by Morcheeba, playing at the Bronze. However, the first discernible spoken word is "passion", said by Angelus in voice over.
6. Moving into season three, we find ourselves at a 'Dead Man's Party', the name of the second episode. Of course I can't think of better name for a party filled with heightened emotion that is attacked by zombies, but who was the character to finally call the party by its true title?

Answer: Oz

In true Oz fashion he delivers this joke with a straight face and not a hint of irony. He did the same thing earlier in the episode when he presented the definitions of gathering, shindig and hootenanny with not even a snicker.
7. Moving further into season three, the episode 'Band Candy' reminds us that while immature parents sounds like a great idea, no one would get anything done. Who is the first to say "band candy" in this comedic life lesson?

Answer: Principle Snyder

Principle Snyder accosts our favorite Sunnydale High students with band candy they must sell. Even after Buffy tells him, "I'm sure we love the idea of going all Willy Loman, but we're not in the band." He just doesn't understand!
8. 'The Zeppo' is the episode depicting Xander's feeling about being, well, the Zeppo. Who is kind enough to point it out to him in the form of the episode title?

Answer: Cordelia

Cordelia: 'Integral part' of the group? Xander, you're the, the useless part of the group. You're the Zeppo! 'Cool', Look it up. It's something that a sub-literate that's repeated twelfth grade three times has, and you don't.

Way to rub it in Cordy!
9. Okay I'll give you a break with this one. 'Graduation Day' is the big two part episode where they say the title about 73 billion times. So I'll just ask you instead, what would Mayor Wilkins call this episode if it were up to him?

Answer: Ascension Day

Ascension is what Mayor Wilkins is trying to achieve on graduation day. It also is referred to as 'ascension day' more than once.
10. Rocketing into the fourth season, we join Buffy as she is first introduced to beer. It is decided by the episode that 'Beer Bad'. Who said this?

Answer: Xander

Interestingly enough, it is his response to Buffy's forceful, "beer good!" She is starting to show a little cave woman by then.
11. Jumping to the climax of the fourth season is 'Primeval'. Who is the one to say that another character is "messing with primeval forces that you have absolutely no comprehension of!"?

Answer: Buffy

Buffy tells the colonel this as she is realizing just how clueless he is.
12. We now move onto season 5. The episode 'Real Me' is our in depth introduction to Dawn and her thoughts. However, is Dawn the first to actually say the title of the episode?

Answer: yes

Indeed she is. As she is narrating the episode through the form of her diary she tells us all: "Nobody knows who I am. Not the real me. It's like, nobody cares enough to find out. I mean, does anyone ever ask me what I want to do with my life? Or what my opinion is on stuff? Or what restaurant to order in from? No! Exclamation point, exclamation point." Harmony also said the title of the episode later on.
13. The episode 'Family' is in many ways Tara's induction into the Scooby Gang. The episode title is said a lot throughout the episode, but who is the first of the Scoobies to refer to Tara as family?

Answer: Buffy

While Buffy is having difficulty understanding Tara throughout the episode, along with everyone else except Willow and Dawn, she is still the first to call her family. This solidifies Tara's place with the group, even more than if it had been someone like Willow or Dawn. It is how she is accepted without prejudice.
14. The episode 'Crush' in season five, Buffy has to face a pretty shocking revelation about Spike's feelings. In an episode about a crush, called 'Crush', who is the first to say the word "crush"?

Answer: Buffy

Dawn: "I don't think Spike is icky."

Buffy: "Well think again sister - (realization dawns). You have a crush on him."
15. Finally, the first finale of 'Buffy'. 'The Gift' was the finale when they didn't know if they'd be given the gift of another season on another network. I'll try to make this one easier. What is Buffy's gift?

Answer: Death

Buffy found out in 'Intervention' that death is her gift. It isn't until 'The Gift' that she figures out what it means: Her sacrifice for her sister and the world.
