Question 1 of 10
1. John and Claudine EverySim are a happy family, living comfortably at Number 10, Sim Lane. Claudine has a successful but low level job in the science career while her husband John works for the military. Their nine-year-old daughter Astrid, an intelligent girl, is doing well at school, and though money is tight, the family are popular and have all they'd ever need. Then, one day, Grace moves in over the road.

Grace and Claudine haven't seen each other in years. As Claudine's ne'er-do-well sister, the two had never got along well as adolescents, but Claudine and Grace become immediate friends. One fateful day, after Claudine comes back from her job as a Field Researcher, Grace calls. They chat, eat, and soon, Claudine finds herself inviting Grace to move in. Now then, this could be seen as a shrewd financial move for the EverySim family, couldn't it, but how exactly is Grace valuable to John and Claudine (in monetary terms?)
Hint

Question 2 of 10
2. Although Grace brings the money from her household with her, with an extra person in the house, life becomes more difficult, and money a scarce commodity. Although Claudine, John, and Astrid do not change in their ways, Grace's influence means that more money is spent on food, furniture, and even building work to make room for her. The solution is clear to the family - Claudine needs a promotion at work, and fast. As a Field Researcher with the basic statistics needed for this job, what can Claudine do to increase her statistics to receive a promotion and therefore more money? Hint

Question 3 of 10
3. Soon, Grace's flamboyance and quintessential laziness begins to have an effect on the EverySim's daughter, Astrid. As Grace and Astrid gradually come closer together, the young girl prefers to spend the days playing with her aunt than going to school. They chat and joke, and chase each other all around the house - anything to cut through the boredom of being at home all of the time. There are, however, many ways that Astrid can be prevented from going to school. Which of the following options is not a valid method to keep Astrid at home with her troublesome aunt? Hint

Question 4 of 10
4. Now that Astrid and Grace were at home 24 hours a day, money became tight again. Where she would have been studying, Astrid was indulging on snacks and spending her days playing on the computer and watching television. Bills continued to come, each one larger than the last, and Claudine saw the only way to make that little bit of extra income was to consult the infamous Genie in the lamp. Now the Genie is an elemental sort, and may offer you an elemental quandary to solve your problems. However, this has an equal chance of working out well, or going horribly wrong. Which of the following is an incorrect description of what happens when an elemental option goes awry? Hint

Question 5 of 10
5. While Claudine is stuck at home (she's been boxed in by the evil clown - she can't go to work, John is already there, and they only have one door) with her now rebellious daughter, Grace is off gadding about the neighbourhood.

Here, we cut to Martyn and Joanne Wu. Martyn and Joanne (neé Rhys-Gwalchmai) have been married for quite some time now. Happily, I might add. But as Martyn is now out of work and Joanne is off working for the Mayor's office, he finds solace in Grace. Big mistake. They soon fall in love, and eager to propose, Martyn ensures that his wife and daughters, Gail and Emma-Jayne, are out of the picture for a few hours. He lights the candles, he buys roses, and he invites Grace around.

Having failed in love before, Martyn wants to get it perfect this time. Grace rings the doorbell. Everything is set. He invites her in with devious intentions. Which of the following must Martyn not do before he pops the bigamous question?
Hint

Question 6 of 10
6. Joanne, meanwhile, has got home from work. Skipping over to another house now (bear with me, it all falls into place in the end), she and her best friend Margot Van der Pol are chatting. Now, both Margot and Joanne have seen Grace sniffing around Martyn, but only Margot has thought anything of it. The two sit in Margot's kitchen and talk over a meal, when Grace pops around to see if she can borrow a cup of fidelity. Margot answers the door, of course, and begins to chat with Grace, while Joanne finishes her meal.

Coming outside, Joanne endeavours to chat with Grace, but all Grace seems interesting in doing is bragging and teasing Joanne (she never was a very nice person.) Upset, Joanne leaves and Margot is forced to get rid of Grace herself. Here's where Joanne's problems with Grace really begin to surface.

It's late at night, but being an academic, Margot decides that she will go up onto her balcony and stare at the stars for a little while. This was not wise. A phone-call Margot received a day or so ago was right - they really are coming for her. We hear an extra-terrestrial noise and Margot is lifted into the air - the aliens have landed. But exactly will happen to Margot?
Hint

Question 7 of 10
7. One night, back at the EverySim residence, Grace and Martyn are having 'connubials' on the doorstep. Joanne comes around to speak to John and borrow a cup of sugar, and spots her husband and the cheap harlot going for gold under a silver birch. Do you hear it? The trumpeting sound means that at least one relationship is going awry.

Joanne storms up to the front door. While Claudine is inside cooking dinner and Astrid is playing out back on the climbing frame, a fight ensues on the porch. Faced with Grace, which of the following is not one of the actions that Joanne could take, to vent her anger with her bigamous husband and the mistress Grace?
Hint

Question 8 of 10
8. With Astrid failing at school and being threatened with a future in the military camps of yore, and Claudine spending all her time working and wishing upon the genie to repair her ruined home, John finds himself wanting. Even Grace has gone to live with Martyn, and although the two never saw eye to eye, she may relieve his loneliness on certain occasions. He is no longer receiving any social attention from his family or Joanne, and feels lonely day in, day out. It is even affecting his work. Life seems to be over for John, or it does until Pedro Aguerra moves into number five.

He and Pedro soon strike up a friendship, and before long, John is spending more time with his new friend than he is with the family. Claudine suspects that there may be more than just a friendship there. But is it possible that, in the Sims, there may be a same sex relationship afoot?

Question 9 of 10
9. Claudine is left virtually alone. Her husband has moved out, her sister is happily married (in sin) to one of the neighbours, and Astrid is still in danger of being carted off into the big green van to military school. But, being the steady Sim she is, Claudine keeps going to work. She earns the money, she comes home, she pops a microwave meal for one in front of herself on the table, and she munches away sadly. Then, she receives a phone-call that could change her life. She is asked if she wants to adopt a baby.

Of course she does! The baby arrives in her kitchen that very moment, and Claudine is the proud mother of a new baby girl! She names the child Karen, and moves the Moses basket into her bedroom. Sadly, Karen is a particularly vocal baby, and Claudine soon begins to struggle to look after her. She seeks advice from her friends and Astrid, wanting to know how she can keep both her and Karen's mood up, and help Karen grow up into a healthy, happy girl. What are the best ways to keep both baby and mother satisfied in this situation?
Hint

Question 10 of 10
10. Claudine is crushingly lonely. John has moved in the Pablo Aguerra, and Grace has moved in with her new husband Martyn. Even Karen is gone, taken away by the evil Social Worker. Lonely and deeply unhappy, Claudine turns to the genie in the lamp, to ask for friendship. Of course, it doesn't work, and Claudine is left feeling more blue than before. Wandering into the kitchen, she takes a meal out of the refrigerator and puts it on the stove, hoping to eat a good meal before the goes to sleep. But disaster - the stove catches light! Though she and Astrid fight the flames together, the heat becomes too much for Claudine's daughter and she runs to the relative safety of the lounge.

Caught in the flames, Claudine has no choice but to keep on fighting. But, overcome by the heat, and smoke, and the fear, she collapses. It is left to Astrid to deal with the Grim Reaper...

He arrives at the door. Astrid goes to plead with him to save the life of her mother. Now, there is every chance than the Grim Reaper will take Claudine anyway, and ignore Astrid, but Astrid does her mother justice. The Grim Reaper offers Astrid the chance to have her mother back, if she can best him in a game. But what game is it?

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts

Answer: When Grace moves in, she will bring all the assets from her old house with her.

When a single Sim moves into the house of another family, all of the money from their previous household goes into the kitty of the house they have moved into. All of the furniture that belonged to the single Sim stays in the house, however, so the family you place in the now empty house receive a full set of furniture too.

Of course, when Grace moved into the EverySim household, she had the potential to bring all of her family friends with her, increasing the family friend count for John and Claudine. Unfortunately, since Grace had no friends outside the family, she brought only the opportunity to make more friends once she was there.

Soon, Pablo Aguerra and his friend Curzon move into Grace's old house. This seems to have a limited relevance for a little while, until Pablo introduces himself to the EverySim family. Soon, Pablo's influence begins to tear the family apart. More from Pablo later...

Answer: Do all of these, and pretty soon, become the Science Teacher she always knew she could be!

To move up from a Field Researcher to a science teacher in the science career path, a Sim must increase their creativity, their logic, and of course, gain more family friends. As we are told on the Sims, friends are vitally important.

Claudine's promotion proved to be vitally important to the family. Their bills almost tripled from around 300 Simoleons to 750 Simoleons every three days. John is now looking for a promotion from his job as a junior officer, but as he needs more charisma, mechanical skill, logic, and friends, this never happens. He simply does not have the time to increase his skills and work long hours, and so it is up to Claudine to take different actions...

Answer: Pick up the school bus with the hold function, and delete it.

Of course, by not going to school, Astrid finds herself facing down the barrel of an E grade, and the potential of spending the rest of her days in military school. The only way for Astrid to pick up her grades once again is for her to study constantly and attend school every day.

Of course, Astrid does not do this. She neglects her studies, and her best friend Anita Kaur Kohli. Anita often calls round, but the door is never answered. Soon, a phone-call shows the Anita is no longer considered a family friend. This puts a great strain on Claudine, as her new job requires that she have a set number of family friends. John also starts to feel the burn, as his promotion now hangs in the balance. Stuck as a junior officer, it is up to John to come home and make more friends. This seems like a difficult task until much later, when he makes a friend who is to change the family life forever...

Answer: If ground happens to go wrong, all of the trees in the garden will die. Lower garden score, ergo lower mood.

The Genie may also ask you which is most important to you; friends or family. If you choose friends and it goes wrong, the entire neighbourhood will develop a vendetta against you. If you choose family and it goes awry, then a member of your family may die. It's a risk that some Sims need to take.

Claudine chooses air, of course. As a Gemini, she feels a deep affiliation with the air. But, the Genie being the Genie, it all goes horribly pear shaped, and Claudine and John spend the next two days spraying patches of cockroaches. This does, of course, ruin their environment mood.

Of course, this does nothing for the mood at work. John's promotion has almost eluded him, and so the family are not getting any more money to cope with Grace and Astrid being at home all day. But then, something happens to the family that will shake them up even more than their fiduciary troubles...

Answer: Play pool with her - a girl loves a bit of baize.

When getting married, the Sims find themselves instantaneously dressed in a tuxedo and wedding dress, and a photograph is taken for them to remember the moment forever. Even two Sims that are already married can marry each other - the game seems not to take into account bigamy! Two Sims that live together, and always have, can never marry though. It doesn't matter how in love the two are - if they have always lived under the same roof, it can be assumed that they are already a married couple.

So, while stood out by the pool having a conversation and eventually sharing a scintillating kiss, Martyn decides to pop the question. Grace takes a look at the ring and accepts his offer, and the two are married outside by the pool, under the balcony. Of course, the two change into their wedding dress and tuxedo, and photographs are taken.

Martyn and Grace go inside and sit down to a meal. It is becoming obvious now that Grace is more important to him than his wife Joanne, and the bigamist even has a greater relationship with Grace than his estranged first love. And all this has happened while Joanne was at heading over to Margot's house...

Answer: Margot will be lifted into the air by a purple beam, be gone for hours, and return to her home with an altered personality.

This is not a common side effect of using the telescope, and although it has never happened to me, the procedure of alien abduction is well known. When a Sim returns to the neighbourhood following his or her abduction, their personality will be irreparably altered, for better or for worse, but there is no pattern to this alteration.

Another way of altering a Sim's personality irreparably is for a Sim to drink the yellow potion they have created using the chemistry set. This will reverse their personalities (so if a Sim has three active points and eight palyful points, they will return with seven active points and two playful points as part of their personality.)

With Margot's change, she and Joanne begin to see less of each other. Grace has moved out of the EverySim residence, and the extra money is allowing John and Claudine to buy the furniture they always wanted. One of their first actions is to hire a maid and a gardener, although the maid is soon fired as, with the size of the house, she is only serving to get in the way of the family.

With more cleaning to be done, Claudine finds that she has less time for sleep, and with Astrid being at home all of the time, the mess keeps on increasing. Tired and in a bad mood because of the state of the house, this is where Claudine's problems first begin to surface, and this is when the depressed clown comes to try and cheer Claudine up. Unfortunately, the house hasn't a back door to escape the depressing pierrot...

Answer: She could tell a cruel joke at Grace's expense and make the harlot cry.

There are many options that Joanne has, and these include slap shove, and fight. Those, the physical options, usually result in the option to apologise to the Sim who was shoved, slapped, or fought with. The fighting scene, of course, is particularly spectacular. The two Sims become embroiled in a war so fierce, that the only thing to be seen is a cloud of dust and various limbs. After this, the jilted Sim may leave the neighbourhood forever.

Fortunately, Joanne chooses not to fight with Grace. Instead, she gives the husband-stealer a well-deserved and very accurate slap in the face and storms off. Grace is now classed as an enemy to Joanne, with a -90 relationship score. Joanne's relationship with her husband is also ruined, and things couldn't get any worse. Until she goes home and realises that she and Grace now live together, under the same roof.

Answer: Yes

In "The Sims", it is possible for couples to have same sex relationships, but unlike opposite sex relationships (where the two Sims can fall in love just by flirting), you almost have to force same sex relationships to take place. There is also a possibility that two same sex Sims will never fall in love, no matter how hard you try.

During this time, Grace is still having to neglect her relationship with her husband and daughter to comfort her best friend and confront her sister. One evening, while John is around visiting Pedro, and Astrid is entertaining her best friend Anita in her room, Grace comes around.

Joanne sees this as her chance. While Claudine is stood at the door trying to get her sister to leave, Joanne storms from around the back on the house and singles out Grace. With her dander up, Joanne swings at Grace and a fight ensues. All that anyone can see of the two enemies is a cloud of smoke and various arms. Soon after, Grace storms home, and this is the last we see of the embittered Joanne Wu. She leaves the neighbourhood forever, and Claudine is left without a sister, a best friend, and a husband...

Answer: All of these are very good options - otherwise, Claudine will have to face the hated Social Worker!

There are many interesting pointers related to the baby. If neighbours are at your house when the baby is born or adopted, there will be a higher chance of having a very outgoing child, as the neighbours will interact with the baby up to a point. The personality a child has is dependent on that of the parents', and it is also possible for a child to have more or less than the 25 points allotted to a parent Sim. Children will also have playful personality points, however, even if the parents have none. The personality of the child will eventually configure itself to be like that of the parents, however (so if a child has one neat parent and one slob, the child will be 'averagely' neat), but it will always have more playful points. Isn't the in-game logarithm amazing?

No matter how hard Karen and Astrid try, there is simply no way that one of them can be in the house at all times. Karen spends the nights disrupting sleep, and often cries to herself when she is at home alone. Now that John is gone, Claudine can only take every other day off work, or she will face her marching orders.

And then, on the morning of the third day, the day that Karen is due to grow into a child and Astrid is due to finally have a playmate (other than the now-estranged Anita Kaur Kohli), the unthinkable happens. The Social Worker turns up on the doorstep, picks up Karen, and begins to walk down the driveway with her. Everything is done to prevent this - doors are deleted, and even a wall is built around the Social Worker in a vain attempt to stop her running off into the sunset with baby Karen, but to no avail. Karen is gone, and Claudine is heartbroken...

Answer: Paper-Scissors-Stone

There are three possible steps that the Grim Reaper could take. He could ignore the pleading of Astrid and take Claudine's life anyway. You'd get a very nice urn in return, and Astrid would mourn. If the game option is offered, there are two possible outcomes. If Astrid bests the Grim Reaper in a game of paper-scissors-stone, Claudine will come back to life, with no permanent differences. If she loses, then Claudine will come back... but as a zombie.

Fortunately, Astrid manages to beat the Grim Reaper in his fiendish game. Claudine is allowed to live her life, but as the fire tore through the open plan house, it took furniture and treasured personal belongings with it. Claudine and Astrid truly are alone now - they don't have enough money to replace their lost belongings, and they seem to have no hope. Days go by with Claudine going to work and Astrid to school, but with no Simoleons in the bank, there is only one thing for the family to do.

Packing up their items, the remaining EverySims move out of Number 10. Taking their modest money with them, they go to set up a new life at Number 1. Far enough away from their closest neighbours to avoid confrontation, they find a small house and decorate modestly. It is a new start for Claudine and Astrid, but they will never forget their "fall from Grace"...

Thank you.
