1. Our journey begins in the beautiful town of Palm Brinks. Which of these support characters cannot be recruited here?

Answer: Pau

Remember Pau? He's the only character outside Palm Brinks who can join your party. He detects gate key monsters and mimic treasure chests for you. His fee is a single carrot!

2. You enter the dark underground tunnel and prepare to battle the monsters within. How many different types of monsters are there in this dungeon (excluding bosses)?

Answer: Eleven

The smallest dungeon in the game is home to not only eleven fiendish monsters, but also to three boss battles against evil clowns. Max comes up against Linda the elephant and Flotsam's clown-shaped machines.

3. On a train speeding through the forest, you're under attack from the evil Flotsam riding his latest machine. What is the name of that vehicle?

Answer: P-3000

The evil Flotsam just doesn't give up - he's back for the fourth time later in the game. For now, just chuck bombs at him.

4. You're visiting the Jurak Mall's eatery in the future. Which character must reside in Sindain for the eatery to exist?

Answer: Polly

Polly runs the bakery in Palm Brinks, making her a great choice for a caf� 100 years in the future! Of course Morton is the proprietor of 'Morton's Sundries'. After you complete the game, his shop gets rare gems and coins in stock.

5. You're lost in the enormous Starlight Canyon. What item must you find to finish each level here?

Answer: Giant Meat

The Starlight Key is actually obtained at the end of the game, and allows you access to yet more levels and nastier baddies. When you use the giant meat in the Starlight Canyon, a giant condor picks up Max and carries him away.

6. Shingala's been mind-controlled and programmed to attack you! What item do you have to throw in Shingala's mouth to win the fight?

Answer: Electric Fish

What do you use to stop a giant monster coming right at you? Hide an electric worm in a fish of course! Shingala's not evil - he returns to save the day against the evil Dr. Jaming.

7. Mount Gundor is a dangerous place. What is the strongest monster you come up against (excluding all bosses)?

Answer: Red Dragon

The Red Dragon is a fearsome foe - almost every weapon type is less than 100% effective against him. His fire breath causes the 'thirst' condition.

8. You've come face to face with the deadly Emperor Griffon. Which of these weapon types will be most effective in the fight?

Answer: Sword

At 100% damage, close combat weapons are the most efficient way to deal with Emperor Griffon. You must avoid his power attacks and razor-sharp roses!

9. In the Moon Flower Palace, you find yourself under attack from playing cards. How many types of playing card enemies are there in the entire game?

Answer: Twenty

The Hearts, Clubs, Diamonds, Spades and Jokers come in four different forms each. If you make it to Chapter 8, the R. Jokers have 4900 hit points, more than any of the dream spiral enemies at the end of the game.

10. After a long adventure, it's time to return to Palm Brinks. What is the game's final boss?

Answer: Dark Genie

Thought you'd won, did you? Dark Element wasn't the last fight at all; not if you count Chapter 8's devilishly hard Dark Genie. At 20,000 hit points, he has the ability to summon mini Dark Genies, each of which have the same amount of hit points as some of the game's earlier bosses.

11. The journey's not over yet; there's much more to discover! How many different weapons can Monica use?

Answer: 64

That's counting all the magical armbands and swords it's possible to upgrade to. In comparison, Max only has a measly thirty-five weapons to choose from!

12. Let's get inventing! Which of these photograph combinations gives Resurrection Powder?

Answer: Fruit / Hot Springs Spirit / Lotus Flower

The ever-popular Resurrection Powder is particularly hard to get hold of: the Lotus Flower can only be found in the gardens of the Moon Flower Palace and the Spirit can only be seen at a particular time of day at Mount Gundor. Fruit is inexplicably scarce, too.

13. Time for some monster transformation. Which of these monsters is not available for Monica to become?

Answer: Steam Goyone

Monica can in fact morph into a Moon Goyone, a member of the aquatic family. Steam Goyones on the other hand have no use for fish as presents.

14. To transform into an undead creature, what gift must you give a skeleton soldier?

Answer: Attack With Holy Water

The undead family and the windup family are the only creature types who show gratitude at being attacked with various miscellaneous items. The rarest monster transformations are obtained from Donny after you get enough scoops.

15. How many different types of fish are you able to catch?

Answer: Eighteen

The fishing aspect of 'Dark Chronicle' is almost ridiculously complicated - each fish has a preferred time of day to swim about and a preferred bait to go for at each time of day.
