Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. When you first meet Laguna he is in a small forest with his friends Kiros and Ward. In this area you will encounter at least one battle with a group of three enemies. What is the name of this particular enemy?

Answer: Funguar

A Funguar is a small creature that is actually a mutated mushroom. These enemies can be quite troublesome (early on in the game) as they have the Sleep spell at their disposal which when used will put your characters to sleep. To make matters worse they only attack with fire magic and as this is not a physical attack it will not wake you up so you will have to strike an afflicted character yourself or wait for the effect to expire.

However Funguars are also susceptible to sleep so you can draw and cast it to subdue them for an easier battle they can also be silenced (as they have this spell too) which means they will not cause you no harm whatsoever. Also this enemy (when subdued) will give you a great opportunity to draw the valuable and useful sleep and silence spells.

These battles will however be little trouble for Laguna and friends even if you don't use the above strategies.
2. You only meet Laguna in the game through dreams.

Answer: False

Laguna is mainly met in the stroy via the "Dream World" (as your characters affectionately call it) and the dreams are events that happened in the past. The person rersponsible for these dreams is a girl called Ellone who takes you back to the past. The reason for this is she wants to change the past.

But what is good is you do finally get to meet Laguna, Kiros and Ward in person towards the end of the game.
3. Laguna frequents a nightclub in Deling city (the capital city of Galbadia where he lives and works as a Galbadian soldier) to have a drink and watch a beautiful lady play the piano. What is the name of this lady?

Answer: Julia

Julie is a made up person but both Raine and Ellone are characters you meet during the course of the game. Raine is the owner of the pub in Winhill (Raine nursed Laguna back to health after he was seriously injured) and Ellone is a little girl who Raine looked after (her parents were killed when she was four) Laguna was fond of both of them and actually married Raine and saved Ellone from Esthar when she was kidnapped.
4. Laguna has a son.

Answer: True

Laguna's son is actually Squall. There are several subtle hints to this and if you play carefully you will notice them. Laguna does not know this however. The reason behind this is when Laguna was living in Winhill Ellone was kidnapped by Esthar soldiers and Laguna teams up with his old friends Kiros and Ward to rescue her from Esthar.

When he was away Raine (Laguna's girlfriend/wife) gave birth and he never got to see the baby before Raine died.
5. Laguna is a Galbadian soldier but this is not the job he wants. What does Laguna really want to be?

Answer: Journalist

This is said more plainly in a couple of conversations throughout the game. The first time you hear it said is during the first Laguna dream. Laguna gets invited to the room of the lady who plays the piano (who he really admires for her music and beauty) and when they get talking he divulges he wants to be a world-traveling journalist, he also mentions that one of his articles has made the readers column in a magazine which he thinks is cool.

When you see him agin in Winhill Kiros says he has had a chat with an editor from a magazine company called Timber Maniacs (you can pick up numerous of these magazines in the game) and according to Kiros the editor is very interested in any article relating to world travel. Also during the Winhill episode Raine says to Ellone "I don't know if his aspirations to be a word traveling journalist are true."
6. After Laguna and Kiros vanquish some monsters in Winhill they return to the pub to give the Commander (Raine) and the Assistant Commander (Ellone) the report. He begins by saying "Here is today's report on monster extermination including ... and ... that Assistant Comannder Ellone oh so hates." What are the two missing words from this quote?

Answer: Bucchu Buchus and Bun Buns

This is said after Kiros and Laguna hear Ellone and Raine talking about Laguna in private (Kiros says they should eavesdrop on this conversation because something is telling him to listen). Ellone is asking Raine if she is going to marry Uncle Laguna. Raine says she is unsure about Laguna's feelings and mentions all his small faults (asparations as a journalist, snoring and talking in his sleep!) but says she feels the same way about Laguna as Ellone does (Ellone says she really likes 'Uncle Laguna'). Raine says that some people don't have it in them to live in a small town 'like this one' and says "It makes me so mad!"
7. When Kiros finds Laguna living in Winhill you can ask him a few questions to find out what he knows. If you ask how Ward is doing he says he has got a job. What is Ward's job?

Answer: Janitor

Ward does not appear in this episode with Laguna due to him working. Kiros says that after their grand escape from Centra (well he actually says "Someone would call that being chased out!", Laguna calls it an escape) that both he and Ward quit the army.

His job is at the D-District prison in Galbadia which is where your characters in the real world are imprisoned after this episode with Laguna.
8. At the end of the game you can challenge Laguna to a game of cards.

Answer: True

You can only play Laguna at cards after you have been to Esthar and heard the plan on how to defeat Sorceress Ultimecia. You board the Ragnarok and Laguna and co come along. You do a final briefing there and after this you can challenge him to a card game. You can win the rare Squall card if you beat him, which can be difficult at this time due to the possibility of the 'Random' rule!
9. What is Laguna's Limit Break attack called?

Answer: Desperado

Laguna has a pretty cool Limit Break. He first jumps into the air and empties a whole clip of machine gun ammo into the enemy before lobbing a grenade into the enemies for heavy damage. As for Kiors' friends Limit Breaks Blood Pain is Kiros's Limit Break and he attacks the enemy with many quick slashes with his deadly Katal.

Heavy Anchor is Ward's Limit Break attack and he throws his spear high into the air jumps up after it and comes back down on top of it and slams it into his enemies.
10. When Laguna and friends get to Esthar to save Ellone they are captured first and forced to work. When they make an escape with another prisoner they find out that he is part of an Anti-Adel movement. What does Laguna call this sorceress by mistake?

Answer: Azel

This is another time (of several) in the game where Laguna gets his words muddled up. As usual he is corrected by Kiros who says "Don't you mean Adel?" The guy who they escape with wants Laguna to lead the Anti-Adel movement and he accepts without thinking but this helps him save Ellone from Esthar which was the reason him and his friends were actually there.
11. Laguna is not the best with words and phrases. At one point during his adventure in Lunatic Pandora he says "It's like killing two ... with one stone." What is the missing word?

Answer: Pigs

Laguna gets several different things wrong with speech during the game and Kiros and Ward are always quizzing and correcting him. In this instance Kiros corrects him by saying "Don't you mean birds?" The way Laguna speaks adds a great bit of humour to the game.
12. When you first meet Laguna (in the dream world) he is a Galbadian Soldier. When you meet him in person towards the end of the game what is his occupation?

Answer: President of Esthar

When you meet Laguna you can ask him several questions. One of these questions can be why is he president. If you ask him he explains how he helped the Anti-Adel movement remove Adel from power (Adel was a powerful Sorceress who ruled Esthar) he led the uprising against her.

He explains that after she fell he was made to be the Hero of the resistance and ended being elected as President. Also he had no say in the matter because he was not listening when he was chosen as Adel's successor!
13. How many dreams do your party members experience during the game?

Answer: Five

Your first experience with Laguna occurs when you are on your way to Timber on the first SeeD mision with Zell and Selphie. They all fall unconscious in SeeD's private cabin and all experience the same dream after a small discussion on this event they decide to put it on hold till they get back to Garden and report it to the headmaster.

The second dream occurs when passing through a small forest on your way to Galbadia Garden. The third dream happens in Winhill and only Kiros is with Laguna for some reason Ward does not feature in this particular dream.

The fourth dream I do not fully understand this dream as sometimes Ward is there and other times he is nowhere to be seen, in this dream Laguna is taking part in a movie in some mountains just north of Esthars Mordred Plains.

The fifth and final dream happens when you reach Esthar with Rinoa.
14. When Laguna speaks to Julia in her room at the hotel in Deling City after he has relaxed (and chomped her ear off!) he asks her what her aspirations for the future are. What does she say?

Answer: "I want to sing."

Julia says she has a problem with singing because she is no good at writing lyrics. Laguna says that must be tough but is shocked when she explains that because of him she thinks she can come up with something. She says that she has always noticed Laguna watching her sing on a regular basis (he always goes to see her when he is in Deling City) and according to her he is always smiling while listening and she comments in his beautiful eyes.

The song she actually writes is "Eyes On Me" which you hear played many times during the game (the tune Julia plays on the piano is this song) the concert for Squall's promotion can also be this and if you visit the hotel in Shumi Village you hear it too. You only hear the song with the words twice. Firstly after saving Rinoa and returning to earth on the Ragnarok it is sung (very romantic scene) and also during the ending credits.
15. When on the Ragnorak with Laguna it is also possible to speak to Kiros and Ward. If you speak to Kiros what does he say?

Answer: "It's a good thing you don't look like your father."

Squall does not know that Laguna is his father and vice versa for Laguna in fact Squall never knew his parents. What I don't understand however is how Ward and Kiros actually know who Squall's parents are? In any case, if you talk to Ward (who can't actually speak) Kiros interprets his answer which is "You look like your mother." The line "Man you look way to serious!" is the first thing Laguna says to Squall when they meet, the other incorrect answer is made up.
