Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Where does the game begin?

Answer: Briny Beach

The game begins at Briny Beach. Klaus has found a mysterious box and tries to figure out what is in it. However, to do that, he needs to use an invention called the smasher. Violet, Klaus, and Sunny each find one of the three required items. Violet then makes the smasher, and Klaus uses it.
2. Which of the following henchmen do the Baudelaires not encounter during the game?

Answer: henchman of indeterminate gender

The henchman of indeterminate gender is not in the PC game. The bald man with the long nose is the first one of Count Olaf's henchmen to be encountered. The Baudelaires encounter him in Olaf's home while trying to get a CD to make a lock pick. The powdered-faced women are also in Olaf's home but they are encountered later in the game, when the Baudelaires are trying to make bug spray.

The hook-handed man is first encountered in Justice Strauss's home.
3. What dinner do the Baudelaires cook for Olaf and his henchmen?

Answer: pasta puttanesca

The Baudelaires make pasta puttanesca although first they need to gather the ingredients. Violet and Sunny collect anchovies, garlic, onions, olives, and pasta. Klaus collects five tomatoes. Olaf is upset, because they don't cook him roast beef, even though he doesn't specify what the Baudelaires should make for dinner.
4. Is the horseradish factory one of the places in the game?

Answer: Yes

The horseradish factory is part of the game. When the Baudelaires first visit Uncle Monty, he gives them an errand to do before their planned trip to Peru. The errand is to go to the horseradish factory to pick up some crates of horseradish.
5. Unlike most of the other inventions, only one Baudelaire uses the grappling hook. Who is that Baudelaire?

Answer: Klaus

Klaus is the only Baudelaire to use the grappling hook. He uses it when trying to save Sunny while Violet is occupied with participating in Count Olaf's play, "The Marvelous Marriage". The stilts, which are used in Curdled Cave, are only used by Klaus. All other inventions are used by at least two of the Baudelaires.
6. How many eyes need to be collected in order to get one of Olaf's theater posters?

Answer: Ten

Ten eyes equal one of Olaf's theater posters. There are one hundred thirty eyes altogether, which means there are thirteen theater posters altogether. The eyes and the posters are not required to complete the game; they are just a nice distraction.
7. At the end of the game, does Count Olaf escape?

Answer: Yes

Count Olaf escapes even though Violet is successful in trying to stop him. He turns off the lights, and when the lights turn back on, he is on his way out of the theater. As he leaves, he tells the Baudelaires that the world is a frightening place and that they are many more villains out in the world than there are Baudelaires.
8. How many times do the Baudelaires go to Count Olaf's home?

Answer: Three

The Baudelaires are in Count Olaf's home three times. The first time is after they have been informed of the fire that destroys their home. The second time is after returning from Justice Strauss's home after getting a cookbook. The third time is after their adventure in Curdled Cave when Olaf informs them that he will be putting on a play: "The Marvelous Marriage".
9. Which of the following characters do not appear in the game?

Answer: Gustav

Gustav, the former assistance to Uncle Monty, does not appear in the game. He was killed prior to the Baudelaires arriving at Uncle Monty's home. Justice Strauss appears near the end of the game. Mr. Poe appears periodically throughout the game. Uncle Monty appears briefly during the game when the Baudelaires live with him.
10. What is the purpose of the gold heart lockets?

Answer: to help boost the health of the Baudelaires

The gold heart lockers that are found throughout the game are there to help boost the health of the Baudelaires. There is a meter that shows how much health the Baudelaires have, and if that meter runs out, then that portion of the game must be done again. There are certain things, such as walking into a bottomless pit, which will automatically cause the meter to run out.
