Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In what city is the Safari Zone located?

Answer: Fuchsia City

The Safari Zone is located at the most northern point of Fuchsia. There's a zoo south of it you can look at first.
2. How much in game currency is required to enter Safari Zone?

Answer: 500

The entrance fee will give the player 30 Safari Balls. Needless to say, they have the worst catch rate in the game.
3. What limits how long you can stay in Safari Zone?

Answer: Both the number of steps taken and Safari Balls remaining

Along with the balls, you're only allowed to take 500 steps. If you take 500 steps or run out of Safari Balls, you're automatically booted out of the Safari Zone.
4. How many Pokémon appear exclusively in the Safari Zone?

Answer: Four

Surprisingly enough, there are only four Pokémon in the Safari Zone that don't appear anywhere else. They are Exeggcute, Rhyhorn, Kangaskhan and Tauros.
5. You need to traverse this area at least once to progress through the game.

Answer: True

There are two HMs you need to progress which can be found directly and indirectly, both in Area 3. Talk to the man in the secret house in the northwest corner for HM03 which contains Surf. You'll find a key item called Gold Teeth practically in front of you as you enter from Area 2. Give these to the warden in Fuchsia City and he'll give you HM04 which contains Strength.
6. The Safari Zone doesn't have any Pokémon that are version exclusive.

Answer: False

There are two Pokémon that are exclusive to "Red" and "Blue", Scyther and Pinsir respectively. Although you can also obtain these at the Rocket Game Corner in Celadon city for 5500C and 2500C respectively, you're better off trying to get them here and save your hard-earned coins for something else.
7. You can also fish for Pokémon while in the Safari Zone. What's the rarest Pokémon that you can catch via fishing?

Answer: Dratini

You can find Dratini by using a Super Rod in any body of water. You can also obtain them from the Rocket Game Corner in Celadon City for 2800C in "Red" or 4600C in "Blue". However, it's probably better to try and catch it yourself rather than spend your coins on Pokémon you can catch in the wild.
8. How many unique items can be found in the Safari Zone?

Answer: Twelve

These are the items you can find; Nugget, Carbos, TM37 Egg Bomb, two Max Potions, Full Restore, TM40 Skull Bash, Protein, Max Revive, TM32 Double Team, Revive (Hidden), HM03 Surf and Gold Teeth. If you want to collect everything, you'll need to make two or more trips. And a map would definitely help.
9. You can battle Safari Zone Pokémon with your own Pokémon.

Answer: False

Because this is a special preserve, trainers can't use their Pokémon when inside the Safari Zone. Instead, they need to use bait and rocks. The bait makes it less likely for Pokémon to flee but harder to catch, while Rocks make Pokémon easier to catch but more likely to flee.
10. There's a famous glitch called the Safari Zone Glitch. What does it allow the player to do the developers didn't intend for them to do?

Answer: Battle Safari Zone Pokémon outside the Safari Zone

This allows you to encounter Safari Zone Pokemon on Seafoam Island. To do it, simply go into the Safari Zone, walk around until you encounter the Pokemon you want to catch. Now exit it and go to Seafoam Island while avoiding random encounters in grass and trainer battles. Now Surf along the tiles that connect the land and water similar to the MissingNo trick and the Pokemon you want to catch should appear. You can now use whatever strikes your fancy; catch it the old-fashioned way or throw one of your many duplicated Master Balls.
