Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the frustratingly difficult Hudson Soft game "Milon's Secret Castle", what two items does the player have to retrieve from the tower and fireplace? (Note: These items are used to open the door to the fourth floor.)

Answer: Cane, Crown

The Crown and Cane are needed. Both are deep inside the castle, and are retrieved by revealing the fake princesses. To reach the depths of the castle you must go through a hidden fire place and one of the castle's two towers. The feather, saw, sword, crystal ball, and hammer are all in game items but not used for opening the door to the fourth floor.

The big key is from the "Zelda" series.
2. In the Super FX chip powered adventure, "Star Fox", which planet was inhabited by large plants, dinosaurs, fireflies and a dragon who was feared throughout the Lylat system?

Answer: Fortuna

Fortuna was the home of Monarch Dodora, a dragon who is the living spirit of the planet. Andross has fed and gained control of the large creatures of this planet. Macbeth is the fire planet, Titania is a planet full of raw materials, and Venom is the final planet that Andross is based out of.
3. In which SNES title does the Chaos Comet threaten the existence of the world?

Answer: Illusion of Gaia

In the "Illusion of Gaia", Will finds out during his first visit to the "Dark Space" about the coming of the evil Chaos Comet. Its revealed later that the comet was an ancient weapon used during the Blazer wars. This was the setting of the game Soul Blazer. None of the other games have a major threat from a comet.
4. In the tile hopping NES action/adventure game "Startropics", what is the password Mike must tell Navi-Com to allow the submarine to submerge?

Answer: 747

This password was a headache for many gamers. The game came with an actual letter you had to dip in the water to get the code! Anyone who rented the game or discarded the letter had no idea! Thankfully "Nintendo Power" published it and now with the internet we can all find it. 1492 is the password to start the sub-c, and the other two are not used.
5. In most of the "Contra" series the Red Falcon is the main villain. Who does he enlist the help of to take over the earth in Super C?

Answer: Jagger Froid

The Red Falcon is trying to allow his warriors to seep into the brains of the US Army. He enlists Jagger Froid to support his new troops. Jagger Froid is a demented alien from the black hole galaxy and he is never mentioned in any other "Contra" game. Probotector is the European name for the "Contra" series, and Gryzor was another name used for computer ports.
6. In "Super Mario World" for SNES, what level contains the secret entrance to the Red P-switch Palace?

Answer: Vanilla Dome 2

The level is Vanilla Dome 2. It's a mostly water level, and also the first level where you have to leave your Yoshi behind because you cannot progress with him. Donut Plains 2 leads to the green switch palace. Donut Ghost House leads to Top Secret Area, a great place to get power ups and Yoshi back.
7. What famous composer did the soundtrack for the NES title "Rad Racer"?

Answer: Nobuo Uematsu

"Rad Racer" was developed by Square, so Uematsu was the man for the job. Sakaguchi was the director, who was also the main man behind the "Final Fantasy" series. Kondo composes for Nintendo and credits include "Mario" games and "Zelda" games. Sugiyama is a composer for "Dragon Quest".
8. In the original "Final Fantasy", who was the evil king who put the prince of Elfland to sleep?

Answer: Astos

Astos is the king of the dark elves and disguises himself as a human king who lost his crown. When you return his crown you are propelled into battle with his real form. Lich is the Fiend of the Earth, Sarda is an old sage who gives you the Rod, and Bahamut is the king of the dragons.
9. In "Super Mario RPG" for SNES, from which place were you able to access the elusive Casino?

Answer: Bean Valley

Grate Guy's Casino is very tricky to unlock but is accessed from Bean Valley. You need to get the Brite Card from Knife Guy in Booster's Tower as part of the process but it is not the access point. Moleville and Monstro Town are not part of this side quest.
10. "Final Fantasy Legend" for Gameboy was actually a game from a different Square Soft series. What series was it?

Answer: "SaGa"

"Final Fantasy Legend" was actually the first game in the "SaGa" series. Since Square's presence in the states was small, they labeled it as a "Final Fantasy" game to help with sales. "Final Fantasy Adventure" for Gameboy was the first game in the "Seiken Densetsu" series, also known as the "Secret of Mana" series. "Front Mission" was always called "Front Mission".
