Answer: Bone Waste

Wilhelm was diagnosed with Bone Waste at a young age. This had to be combated by giving him cybernetic implants.

2. What is Wilhelm addicted to?

Answer: Cybernetic implants

After having some cybernetic implants at a young age he became addicted to them. As the game continues some of his skills actually change his body parts into cybernetic implants.

Wilhelm was a merc for many years clocking up an impressive kill count. He later got hired by Handsome Jack as a Vault Hunter.

After working for every corporation his kill count was larger than all others. This ruthlessness is what attracted Handsome Jack to him.

Wilhelm does have some German heritage. However on the planet Pandora no one really cares where you come from.

Wilhelm was poisoned by Handsome Jack. Jack did this so that they would put his special core in Sanctuary.

At the start of the game his right eye was the only visible cybernetic implant. But as you upgrade Wilhelm be becomes more and more robotic until you see him in 'Borderlands 2' where his entire body is robotic.
