Rather than continue to hi-jack Jolana's thread during her temporary absence, I will post further cryptic crosswords clues here until she returns and wishes to take back the reins!

Now I think 1 Across may be RACER, because 3 Down is REHEARSED.

3D Cemetery regular, dressed in red, went over.

Went over = REHEARSED

Put the word HEARSE (cemetery regular) inside the word RED.

Nice work Nanny!

When I started the puzzle earlier, I wasn't sure whether 1a was RACES or RACER, but your solution for 3d solves the problem.

1A Speedster's rights pulled apart by expert (5) ... Speedster = RACER, with the two R's coming from rights.

1D Zeros are ultimately included in balance before the point.

I can only think this is RESETS. which is what happens when totals are set back to zero. But I don't know how we get there cryptically speaking.

1D Zeros are ultimately included in balance before the point.

It is RESETS (Zeros) Sue, and I think the wordplay is as follows:

are ultimately = E in REST (balance) before S (the 'compass' point)
